VG will always produce thicker vapor - common liquids (80%PG to 20%VG) produce much less...but don't forget to let the carto sit for a while so the filler can absorb the liquid.
70/30 pg/VG with a few drops of ethanol cuz it was still kinda thick at first.

It steeped for a good half hour. The crappy carto's my cheap 510 came with produced more vapor.

I'd look at the possibility you've got a defective carto. Do you only have the one?
What voltage were you at and what is the ohm rating on the dcc? Was there allot of gurgling going on? Could be you have flooded them if so. Take the tank off and blow the excesss out. Try again to vape, it may take a few long draws. Key question here is v + ohms.
2.5 ohm dc cartos. Got five of them. Only tried two and both have the same prob. No gurgling...a little popping maybe. The filler is soaked. Any voltage less than 4 produces almost nothing. The MVARI is pretty much a lava tube. All the same features and setup exactly.

Lavatubes don't work well with Dual Coil Cartos.
It has to do with some flawed protection programming and the amperage limit of the Lavatube. You can't get more that 3.4 ish volts out of a Lavatube using Dual Coil Cartos.
Try some Boge single coil cartos, they are a great fit with the Lavatube.
Or be like me, and just pony up for a Provari V2 (on its way to me now).
