Done! What do you think? Too unobtrusive? About right?
Might be a bit too subtle, maybe #999, or maybe
just wait and see what people say, if anything.

#819AB4 is a darker version of the default background
but at that point the subtleties start to hurt my brain,
trying to balance utility with politics.

Thanks!

SJ

#CCCCCC (or #CCC) looks perfect to me -- noticable even to my oldish eyes, yet non-obtrusive.

Here's a few more acronyms and abbreviations:
'CASAA' => 'The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives Association'
'Batt' => 'Battery'
'PGA' => 'Pure Grain Alcohol'
'HV' => 'High Voltage / High Voltage Device'
'Cart' => 'Cartridge'
'WTA' => 'Whole tobacco Alkaloid'
'SHS' => 'Second-Hand Smoke'

Also, you might want to add the pluralized versions of PV, Atty, Batt, and Cart:
'PVs' => 'Personal Vaporizers'
'Attys' => 'Atomizers'
'Atties' => 'Atomizers'
'Batts' => 'batteries'
'Carts' => 'Cartridges'

I can understand hesitation about including vendor-specific acronyms, but if you decide to go ahead and include some, here are a few that gave me pause when I first started reading this forum, and sometimes more recently. I've only listed ones that I think are commonly used on this forum:
'JC' => 'Johnson Creek'
'TW' => 'Totally Wicked'
'PS' => 'PureSmoker'
'AEC' => 'AbsolutelyECigs'
'MFS' => 'MyFreedomSmokes'
'V4L' => 'Vapor4Life'
'SLB' => 'Sai Le Bao / Sailebo'
'SE' => 'SmokeEverywhere' (might be in a "don't promote" category similar to that of ASH, though)
'JS' => 'JantyStick'
'SB' => 'Silver Bullet'

I'm sure I'll think of more as soon as I hit "Submit Reply"!

I suggest redefining 'PH' to 'acidity or basicity of a solution', because pH in this sense is certainly the more common use of the two-letter acronym on ECF -- either that, or remove it altogether.

Also, I can imagine new persons discovering that 'VG' = 'Glycerine/Glycerin/Glycerol' would immediately generate the same question over and over again -- in their minds, and eventually, in a bunch of posts -- "what does the 'V' in 'VG' stand for?" Therefore, make it 'Vegetable Glycerine / Vegetable Glycerin / Glycerol'.

One more you could consider: I bet a lot of people wonder who or what the heck "SJ" is!!!

excuse my ignorance guys but... have ya'll got this acronym popup feature implemented at this point?.... or is it just still in the works at the moment? --fisch

1. Look for a post (in this very post, for example) that mentions PG in it.

2. You should see a very light underscore under the string "PG".

3. Hover your mouse cursor over those letters. No need to click on it; just hover. Wait perhaps a second.

4. You should see a tooltip-type element appear, giving the meaning of the acronym or abbreviation -- in this case, "Propylene Glycol".

P.S. If you see "Prime Ground", you're on the wrong forum -- probably the same forum that shows "Sloppy Joe" for "SJ". I understand the potential for confusion, though: they both talk a lot about something called "Chuck".

HTH.

:D:D:D:D

Now that's a very rich "chuckle" ... John. :lol: -- Thanks for that one!

but really.... i'm just a dumbass...:sleep:

my mouse can hover patiently over PG's, SJ's, BJ's or any other acronym for daaaayyys..... and nothing 'pops-up'! --

Still my question stands....

Because if such a viagramatic feature is currently enabled and available.... then I think it's reasonable to expect at least a Blow Job or something from one those three acrimonious nymphs above.

don't you think?

Ummm....er..... uh...... not meaning to be obnoxious (but probably succeding anyway) FDA is actually "Food and Drug Administration". You may want to clarify that in the future. Not that I give a tinkers cuss in the least, but for the sake of the OCD afflicted among us, you may want to bring it up to date.

Chris :p

:oops: Argh - corrected now. Thank you!

Something went terribly amiss.
HTML:
<acronym title="" food="" and="" drug="" administration="" -="" us="">FDA</acronym>
And now i'm thinking that the dots are too subtle, too. Or maybe i'm just more certain, on the certainty continuum,
because others thought so as well.

Maybe try #999 see if people praise or condemn.

FizzleFisch what browser are you using? I think that the feature does not work in IE6.

Joe please do not mention that swear word round here, we do not encourage the use of obscene and disgusting language.

{{ big-chuckle! }}

Joe... I put away *obscene reference* years ago..:rolleyes:

I'm running FireFox 3.5.6 at this time. -- I believe all the add-ons, extnsns, java, & other impinging s/w elements are current (but need to double-chk again for this particular system [as 1 of 6 ] ).

wait a minute...:?:

..I just noticed (at the bottom of the screen here) that it's showing BBcodes, Smilies, & as ON...
but HTML code is OFF
.... could that have anything to do with it?

My humble apologies to all whom i may have offended.
I do not know what i was thinking.

FizzleFisch, when FF is installed it usually puts a "Safe Mode" link in your Start Menu.
Launch that and navigate to this thread and see if acronyms display or not.
That'll tell you if an extension or plugin is causing the issue.
If such is the case then the only thing to do is disable them all
and then enable them one by one until you find the one that breaks things.
Well no it's not the only thing to do...
you could first look through your extensions for likely culprits
and burrow through their settings.

Also make sure you're hovering over acronyms that are (subtly) underlined.
The feature seems to break on pluralized acronyms, e.g.,
and don't work at all for acronyms which aren't defined.
