Thanks Rachel. I will continue glycerine experiments. I wanted to make absolutely sure no one around me was getting a cold. The last time I smoked it all day in an experiment, I got a sore throat and headache. But I couldn't be sure those weren't caused by something else besides e-smoking. If glycerine has consequences, I need to be well to detect them.

The vapor output was fine, as you say. I think it might have been better than PG, in fact. I'll be trying again.

P S. I have TWO gold stars somewhere around here. Gimme a minute ...

TB,

Not saying that you shouldn't try the cigar humidification solution - I would think if anyone could find the proper ratio, it would be you... ;)

I was going by Dr. Jim's ratio of 2:8 for self extract, and am assuming the reason for lower smoke vapor is because there is to much water added to the humidifiation solution. Am I right?

Find those gold stars if I am...

A likely 'yes' on too much water. Since I start with cooked tobacco-flavored water, I surely wouldn't want to add much more water. I'm using the same ratio as Dr. Loi suggested: 20% flavor solution and 80% glycerine. When I add extracts, I use the dropper for about 6 or 8 drops. It imparts a bit more taste than the commercial equivilent (vanilla vs. vanilla, eg).

Ooooo. Most ingenious. You reckon I could put a cup of pipe tobacco in a small pot and cover it with the cigar humidor fluid, then boil for a short time at 370F and simmer for an hour or two? The final liquid might need nothing further than a select flavor addition.

No need to go that high, it's some of the water you want to boil off. Just boil over 212F but under 370F

It's just an idea - I'm not a chemist.

Probably a silly question (it's late late at night here, so probably daft...): but why aren't you guys buying and using pure PG (mucho cheaper then humidifier); and if you want to have it watered down, then boil some water and add it? Plus, if going the route of simmering tobacco and wanting to put that in: I don't see putting PG or part-PG through a cloth or paper-filter that is fine enough to stop any solid tobacco-particles from going through as easy (if even possible) either?
Again, probably just being daft; but I would like to understand the plus to what you are discussing, and I don't ?

A LITRE of pure PG will be around 10 dollar if that (I pay 5 euro per litre)... and 0.25 litre of humidifier (of which half is water, so in fact only 0.125 litre PG) is almost 4 british pounds?
Sorry katink,
I think I was just misunderstanding everything. I thought you were questioning why people are making their own eliquid.

Katink: I too misread it at first and pounded out a long, detailed reply on the fun, purity, legality, safety, availability, etc., before I realized what you were really asking. Heck, I'm using glycerine only because it was available locally and I can't find PG in my town.

The misunderstood question would take realms of space to answer ... and I know you've been around long enough to at least sense what could lie ahead. Declare Independence Day!
