Nice thread Loren!

I remember the roller skates that you would clip to your shoes. Turn the little bolt and tighten them so they wouldn't fall off! Roller skate key, yep, had one!

Also remember the first skateboards. Mine was and is (still have it) a Roller Derby, wood with metal wheels.

I'v got a brand new rollerskate, you've got a brand new key, ithink that we should get together and try one on, you see...or something like that

I always opened my cereal from the bottom if there was a prize inside.

PS. Rob i never did get my Reo Secret Decoder Ring

For the cool toys you needed to mail several box tops and maybe 25 cents and no matter what it was you mailed it (more times than not) to this one city. I can't remember but I think its in Michigan. I can remember how neat it would be to live there. Dang...someone must remember. Ah crap I won't be able to think of anything else to till I find out!

I remember cars without seat belts and the highbeam, lowbeam switch on the floor. I kinda liked that still.

I remember switching from low-beam to high-beam and back again with my left foot.:)

Edit: Rats, you beat me, Loren.:)

Yep, no seatbelts, floor hi-beam switch, and gauges instead of those damned idiot lights. Center over to the right of the gas pedal floor starter thing, instead of a button on the dash or in the switch. And shifting your 3 speed floor shift with your right foot especially when you were out on a date. "I've never kissed a girl before", he said, as he shifted gears with his feet. Remember Chevy 6s with babbitt rod bearings and Ford flatty V-8s with those darned dual thermostat housings and water pumps for each bank of cylinders. Remember seeing first TV, my uncles', in '48. The show? The Test Pattern, but we were awe-struck.

Battle creek?

My grandma always saved those little coupons on the top,of the cereal boxes to get free silverware. She had lots of kids, lots of silverwear.

Transister radios
Radio stations playing all kinds of music...not just dedicated to rock or oldies or country
Leaving our house unlocked while we were gone on a two-week vacation so the neighbors could get in and get their saddles out of the utility room....
"Running Parts" for my (mechanic) dad all summer, all over Tulsa, when I was 14 and without a driver's license.

I remember wringer washing machine. Mom always used to threaten to beat use with its rubber hose but she mostly used the wooden spoon. I think I almost turned out normal.

I was about 2 yrs old when I got my hand stuck in the wringer. It went all the way up to my wrist. Took lots of skin off. Still have a few scars from places that were almost bad enough to graft skin. I remember wearing the gauze bandage on my hand for a long time. My Mom had run so fast to try and stop the wringer that she fell and skinned her knee. Yep, I remember that!
