The A&P had 3 short aisles. Grandpa was the butcher in the back of the store. He always was smiling. My aunt was the cashier. You put your groceries on the counter and she pulled on a wooden handle to move the items towards her. She had to punch keys to put in the price. Then brother and I would go right next door to get milkshakes made on a real machine with big chrome holders. 25 cents for a shake.

I remember riding my bicycle without a helmet, riding in the car with no seatbelts, growing up in a house and car filled with ashtrays and smoke. I remember smoking at work, in Publix and at the mall. I remember candy cigarettes. I remember being paddled a few times in school and I remember having mucho sexo casual before the days of aids and rubbers. :)

I remember other stuff too, but I didn't want to use up all the good ones. Good thread LT :)

Transister radios
Radio stations playing all kinds of music...not just dedicated to rock or oldies or country
Leaving our house unlocked while we were gone on a two-week vacation so the neighbors could get in and get their saddles out of the utility room....
"Running Parts" for my (mechanic) dad all summer, all over Tulsa, when I was 14 and without a driver's license.

So excited to move to Cincinnati after I got married in '69 for DH #1 to finish school, UC, and they had an FM radio station that played ROCK music!!!!!!! No such thing in Louisville or beyond.

I remember wringer washing machine. Mom always used to threaten to beat use with its rubber hose but she mostly used the wooden spoon. I think I almost turned out normal.

We had a wringer machine for so long and Mom had her Beauty shop in our basement..... lots of towels to hang out constantly. Winter clothes lines in basement with Dad's homemade dehumidifier.

I don't think I took that apart..... off limits.

School dresses that had to be ironed.

Transister radios had little red triangles on them so you could dial in the emergency frequency in case of nuclear attack. And don't forget the drills in school to hide under your desk when that big A bomb is coming down. Wow, i just got under my desk just in time..whew, hey, where did everyone go.

My Dad constantly having to reassure me that the basement in PO was where we would go in case of The Bomb..... all stocked and all.

Speaking of radios, do you remember these?

I got a white one for Christmas one year and used to take it to bed with me at night and listen to it.

I had a Toot a Loop so I could put it on my handlebars and listen while I rode my bike. :)

I remember boarding a plane with a full bottle of soda and my shoes on the whole time ..............

Just sayin' ......... Ya I'm in a bit of a mood today.

I remember when we all dressed up for air travel.

White gloves for church; cotton during warm months and kid when cool/cold..... but white.
