There are some good pointers here to try. But I have to agree with the OP. I have been playing around with Twisted wires for the last week or so and still can't seem to get "it right". From wicking issues to bending the coils to get them to sit right issues. They look great! Fire Amazingly well! But flavor is Lack Luster.
Used double 30 ga; triple 30 ga; double 28 ga; Double twisted 30 ga twisted around 28 ga; Double 30 g twisted around 24 ga; and Double 28 ga twisted around 24 ga. None of these seem to give me "better" results (and I'm looking for flavor results) then just single non-twisted 24 ga. I was having a problem with my Mutation X and tasting like "Wet socks" on a Quad Coil Build and a Twisted (30 g twisted around 24 g). Changed back to a Dual 24 ga setup (not twisted) and its Amazing Again - No More Wet Socks!!

So I, like the OP, is a little bit on the fence with this whole Twisted Coil business. Seems like the trouble isn't really worth it...

Especially when a simple dual coil is so quick and works so well. Can't beat simple and efficient.

I have to say I was pretty excited to try using twisted kanthal, and once I screwed the coils into my plume veil I was immediately impressed with the aesthetics. The coil looked great and heated up evenly. the vapor it produced was noticeably more flavorful. however, that is where the pros ended.

The problems started with the wicking.it took me a couple times to get it right since the cotton would catch on the coils, which wouldn't have been a problem if the wicks would actually absorb juice. I'm not sure why, but if I saturated like I normally do I would get a lot of un vaporized juice in my mouth, I was able to put at most 6 drops on each coil, which for me is a huge downside, since I like to be able to saturate a lot and only have to drip every 6-10 puffs. with the twisted wire I was able to maybe get 4 puffs before having to re saturate.

My second issue was with the heat up time. it was a .4 ohm coil, and with a regular 26g dual coil, I get instant vapor. With the twisted it would take somewhere between 2-4 seconds for the coils to heat to the point where it would begin to vaporize the juice.

IMO the bad out ways the good when it comes to twisted coils, at least with the gauge of wire I was using. I will eventually tinker with different sizes, but for now I'm happy with good ole regular dual coils.

If you are used to using 26 gauge, then when trying twisted, use twisted 28 gauge so you end up with electrically closer to the same place.

i like to twist things. (like whatever the wife is saying during a "dispute")

but not my wire.

i prefer simple ugly coils.

no fancy builds
no fancy twists
no MM super surface area
no ribbon wire
no special metal magical compound just for the (insert here) crowd

just simple, ugly, non contact coils.

then again, i've settled into pretty much using the same build on every device i prefer... which are pretty much all BF RDAs.
i'm done experimenting. i know what i like and i'm usually going to stick to it.

it is nice to play sometimes, though. but i always return to old faithful.

that's what floats my boat. enjoy what floats yours.

I've been using twisted for a month, I love it. Dual twisted 28g verticals, 4/5 wraps, spaced, in an Origen V3 RDA. The spacing really helps with keeping the Origen top cap from heating too much. I'm wicking with rayon, never had any issues with it at all. Using twisted is like switching to a different gauge, you need to spend some time working out the kinks (so to speak) like wicking, heat up, positioning and all of that jazz.
