Ok I admit it - I WAS WRONG!
When I first received my ego I was very disappointed with it. All I was getting was a nasty burnt taste. I gave it a day or so and pretty much wrote it off as yet another "lesson learned" in regards to e-cigs. So anyway I started reading more about the ego and particulary 510 attys. Hey they ship those attys with a crappy primer liquid? ...and one needs to get all that out before actually using it? OMG! - Ok with that info I pulled out the ego from the droor, cleaned out the primer crap (within the atty) and low and behold it tasted pretty good! Now mind you I have been an 808 user for the last three months and there is definitely a difference with the taste. But I have to say I have grown to love the more bolder, smoky, less airy taste that the 510 atty produces. I don't know how to put my finger on it. It seems like the atty burns the liquid a bit stronger or something. Anyways I just ordered another ego battery, two more LR attys as well as two LR cartos. Even though I still like my 808 I believe it will now be the new resident in my droor. I am now a very happy ego user!

The link in my signature has a video detailing how I clean atties- and that's how I get the primer out of them.

I'm befuddled as to why they ship them wet. Rewetting them with 2 or 3 drops of juice never seems to present a problem to me.

The 510 atty is indeed a good vaping solution.

Here's the vid:

Great vid cozzicon!! I love how the liquid started to stream out after letting it simply sit in the alcohol for a bit. I will definitely be doing this with my attys regularly. Thanks

I'm so glad you didn't give up.
I have a Riva, it's cousin, or some type of relative, anyway, I am in love with it. It actually has a name well Riva, I like it as a female name and my Riva is Pink and very female!!!
Ohyeah we were talkin about your Ego! lol
I'm sure you'll find it is a good vape and it will be hard to go back to anything smaller for me.
i always love to hear good stuff like this.....

Just as a note... some atties, either bad or Joye knockoffs, won't stream whatever you do. They usually have a really really tight draw anyway.

That's the only exception I can think of.

Hey Kgeiger,

Glad to hear you got it going. I'm using the T-Rex/ego and it does take some getting used to. I did have one atty that wouldn't clean out (sadly, the first one I started on.) I finnally found what appeared to be silicone arround the edge next to the bridge - nothing ever got that taste out. The others I steamed on the esspresso machine and never had a problem with.

Speaking of Wicked, I should be getting my Mega atty and carts tomorrow... you might want to check those out.

Good Vap'n to ya.

Hey cozzicon - I did clean my attys as you mentioned. Though I didn't see streams of alcohol coming out once I took each out I will tell you they are working like new. I will make it a point to get in the habit of doing this for sure.

Note - to speed up the dry process of the alcohol I stuck each atty in the front cover of my oscillating fan. Left them on it for about a half hour and they were completely dry when I took them out.

The "silicone" that you saw on the bridge was probably the wicking material. It is a bundle of silvery fibers that surrounds the bridge and delivers juice to the coil. You can see it very well in the series of pictures in this link on how to rebuild an atomizer. There shouldn't be any silicone, i.e. RTV sealant or caulking in an atomizer. There is also a ceramic bowl that houses the coil. In some atomizers it is visible. In others it is shrouded by the metal mesh surrounding the bowl.

Yea... some will not get to a stream. But if you keep at it... some will.

But you can feel pretty safe it's clean if you do not see anything else flowing into the alcohol.

Dave,

It wasn't the wick... I actually scraped it out from around the outer edge or the metal ring next to the casing. I tried to burn one of the peices of wick, but it did nothing like that. This was one of the attys that came with the original starter kit and that atty was different than the second one. I suspect that it was something that fell in on the manufacturing line and I just happened to be the lucky recipient - at least it wasn't someones finger!

Teah - let me know how the Wicked mega atty and carts work out for ya.

kgeiger,

Whoa... the Wicked Megas are excellent - I've been going for over 2 hours on the same load... regular carts last me for about 45 min. I did do the BFM mod on a blank first, but it's really a nice draw at 3.7.

Hooked up to a 5v VaperKing PT and Whoa again... just keeps getting better.

Very smooth, good flavor, TH, and excellent vapor. I didn't even bother to clean it before I juiced it... couldn't wait. Not much in the way of factory burnoff at all. When I reorder, I'll clean those first.

Give'm at try - worth the buy.

If you are talking about the cart and atty in the review posted, seems ever one makes the same mistake. These aren't the Mega atty's and carts. The Megas are the same dia. as the standard 510 but a good deal longer. And will also fit a standard 510 as it is the same Dia.

What is being shown is the eGo-XL or as some call them, the Mega XL. A different animal entirely. And a heck of a lot better than the standard mega in both amount held and in vapor produced.
