Yes, I went running last night. I went for about 4 miles STRAIGHT, no pitstops to rest or anything, just continuous jogging/running mix. Felt GREAT! Ever since I took up smoking in senior year of high school (5 years ago) I haven't been able to run like I did in high school (or be very athletic for that matter). Consequently I have had a pretty negative body image, lost confidence and haven't been as happy as I used to be. My lungs didn't hurt much but I could tell I was out of shape, as I used to run 5-6 nights a week at least 5 miles a night, played HS football, diving, wrestling team. And its all thanks to my e-cig! My dad smokes and consequently my previous attempts at going vape-only fell short, don't get me wrong I cut back on analogs but not completley out. I decided it was high time to go vaping only, and got stocked up on juice, PG and my Juiceybox are letting me do that. I work RIGHT next to the FDA building and love to vape in my car as I drive past those poor misinformed souls. Just a huge thanks to E-cig forum and its awesome members, Josh/James/Dawna/PS for the supplies and letting me get "back into my lane". Getting fit won't only help my confidence and self-image 100%, it'll hopefully get me more phone numbers at the bar ;) Thanks all!! Currently 5'5 and around 165 pounds, trying to get back the "fighting weight" of 135. God bless E-cigs and screw Phillip Morris and their deliciously evil Marlboro Lights.

That's wonderful! I'm so happy for you. I wish I could bring myself to exercise in any way regularly...I don't even like to run for the bus, lol. But I do notice that I can walk, skip, hop, frolic, etc so much more easily nowadays. Maybe someday I'll even try going for a real jog, now that it won't make me feel like I'm going to pass out.

Keep it up!

I am 57 smoked for over 43 years, I have been vaping for just over 5 months now and am cycling up to 12 miles almost every day....and the vaping is really starting to make a difference to my breathing. I want a bike with higher gears than a mountain bike now because I can't turn my legs any faster to get more speed. It wasn't long ago I was getting puffed out making the bed.

I've started running too, though, this is the first time in my life I've ever voluntarily done any kind of physical exercise. I'm 23, so it's not too late I don't think.

I can't run very far, but I try. This is something I would have NEVER been able to do while smoking analogs. But then, I was so lazy and out of breath all the time that the thought never entered my mind.

It's also a heck of a lot easier now to do my floor routine or anything really, anything at all is easier. You kind of realize just how crappy you felt while smoking once you quit. I can bend over to pick something up without my heart racing, everything is EASY. I have ENERGY. This is great, I will never pick up an analog again.

By the way, I had smoked for about eleven years at the time I quit

I have been smoking for since I was 12-13 years old (now 26). I have been vaping for 3 weeks now. Needless to say running far distances was never my main thing. Yesterda I woke up late for class and I ran to class. I don't remember being able to run that far without being so out of breath before.

Betcha now you just walk in chill as hell. Joyride, you tought of doing P90X? My buddy just got me a copy, the excercises aren't even the hardest part, its the food choices. Wish a e0cig could help with diet stuff to!

I am using a full suspension mountain bike ...and ohhh yes my bum gets sore..I am trying to find a better sadle lol....the mountain bike is great for the hills but now I am breathing so much better I am wanting something that has the gearing to go 'faster'. the highest speed I can possibly turn my legs on the flat is only 23 miles per hour. It's so good to feel my breathing improve like it is. I am almost starting to feel like I am 16 again....lol. And our government want to ban it??

Amen and good for U!
I work out 6 days a week, I'm a stocky wide guy, 5'8" 190. Not a runner, a weight lifter, but after quitting marlb lights in feb I can run a 9 minute mile for 3 miles no problem. Slow down to 12 minute mile and I can knock off 5 miles easy. Now my limiting factor is my back not my lungs!

Thats awesome! Glad to hear how everyone is being able to excercise so much easier thanks to E-Cigs. Subitron, you need some bionic legs or something!!

I started running too - up to doing 1.2 miles comfortable from barely making 1 mile a week and a half ago. I know it's not the lungs that are the limiting factor - my legs are just killing me on the uphills. I believe that vaping may in fact have an influence on this because I heard PG increases lactic acid production....

Good to hear all the reports of peoples' increased physical abilities and getting out there and trying to get healthier!!

gashin....as a regular runner (kinda mandatory for my job), I wouldn't worry too much about the lactic acid production (although I've read something similar). Your muscles just need time to build up....especially if you are just getting back into running and you're doing hill runs. My suggestion (if it's possible to follow) would be to run on flat ground for the majority of your runs to build your muscle endurance. I utilize hill runs and steps to build leg strength and stress my lungs in an effort to build up my speed and only do that once or twice a week....not as a daily run regimen. Also, unless you have been running regularly for a long time....give yourself rest days inbetween your run days. Use those rest days to just go for a walk, take a bike ride, take a swim, etc. This will allow your leg muscles the time to heal and get rid of any lactic acid build-up. But whatever you do, keep it up!! :thumb: (You can also try eating bananas to ease some of the lactic acid aches....but that never seems to work for me. :p)

Thanks for the tip. I can't really run flat in my area (Chino Hills) haha unless I go to the track. I can mainly go downhill or uphill. I know I just have to be patient and allow my muscles to build but it is really frustrating because only a year ago, I was running 5 miles a day... now I'm 30 lbs heavier and can barely do 1.... do you take any supplements to help you rebuild and recover?

LOL....yeah...was wondering if Chino Hills really meant hills. ;) I personally don't take any supplements...certainly not for aerobic conditioning. Used to take supplements years ago when I was heavily weight lifting and trying to build mass....but I'm too old for that stuff now. Instead, I just focus on lean body mass and conditioning through good diet (not strict...just make sure all my food groups are covered) and regular exercise. I run daily and incorporate some type of body-building/conditioning workout at the end of it. Keep it up....won't be long before you're back to your 5 miles daily ability!

WOW. That's fast - were you in track?
Wow.... I am looking forward to starting the switch.... up until 3 years ago I was still running low 5 minute miles and now the cigarettes are catching up and I am out of breath just running flights of stairs..... I am happy to here of all of your success... It is great encouragement....

How many times do you run a week? I'm close to 4 days now consistently but I'm not making significant gains.
