As someone new to vaping, and have failed at vaping, there are so many things I wish I would have known, cause I may have not failed as much.

1.People smoke different. Some go strait to the lungs, others put the smoke in there mouth then inhale it to there lungs. Mouth to lung seems to need a higher nic content to curb the urge, while strait to lung seems to need a lower content. I am mouth to lung, and 18 mg is my sweet spot, gf, strait to lung, and 6 is her sweat spot.

2. Smoking a cig is NOT a fail. Far from it. Dont be afraid to smoke a cig, in time, you will learn to HATE the taste of cigs. Give it time, you will get there.

3. Never get your Mods, or Juice from the internet. Go to your local vape store, try different flavors, Find what tastes good to you, Rotate your flavors often, Smoking the same flavor to long is such a BIG mistake. The same flavor all the time, you get way to used to it, and will get vaper's toung. You wont be able to taste the flavor any more.

4. Are you vaping to quit, or replacing smoking with vaping?. If your quiting, then you dont need a super expensive vape machine. I use a simple, single battery set up.

5. Vaping is not a "magic bullet". YOu will have urges, Vape through them, the urges will pass. Vaping is not smoking, you wanna vape slow, and exhale through your vape through your nose, the nose seems to absorb the nic better. Just remember, vape SLOW!! give your body time to absorb the nic.

6. Keep a back up vape machine if you can. Keep a spare battery fully charged on hand. That way your machine goes bad, or battery dies, you have that back up.

7. Try not to chain vape. If you have to chain vape, maybe up your nic content. The machine is to help you over the urges. Vape trough them, then set your vape aside.

8. Set your vape machine to best match the cig. I use a low wattage single battery Mod. I start at 30 wats, then adjusted it to match the cig. 34 wats is the sweet spot. I burn through a 5 mil tank a day. Sometimes less. I wanna keep it there.

9. I find, as well as the gf, that keeping the nasty cigs around helps. We dont panic, there there if we have to, but we choose not to. That is just a personal thing, and you may find not having them any where near you works best for you. Just do what works, do whatever it takes to keep on vaping, and not walking around stinking like a ash tray.

In the end, you have to decide how you wanna vape, is it something you wanna do full time? Do you wanna quit?

When it comes to your vape machine, 20 people are gonna swear to 20 different machines. Just find something simple, vape, and quit smoking. Dont drive your self crazy trying to find the "right vape machine". Try not to drive yourself crazy finding that "super flavor".

Buying your juice from the internet, as someone new to vaping is SUCH a big mistake. You may find the juice you got, may not be to your liking, tastes horrible. You get what you pay for.

Best of luck, you can do this, tons of people do.

I have been married to my wife for over 40 years. Until we started vaping, I never knew she smoked differently than I did (she is DL, I'm MTL). You think you know someone and then...

I completely agree with keeping it simple. Quitting smoking is much too hard to complicate it.

I buy almost all my hardware and all my juices online.

Much cheaper. Often better quality (juice).

120ml of juice is $67 with taxes in store here. I can get 360ml with shipping for just over $50.

Also a fan of dual battery mods.

Without these 2 I would never have been able to switch from cigarettes.

... and I also disagree with the online thing. There is a much higher variety online. Having a vape shop local is a bug bonus, but not a necessity. Some people use the "frugality" of vaping to justify quitting.... like me. :) I bought my first ecig at a grocery store, After buying a few of their refill cartriges, and realizing it was not much of a cost savings, I went online, and found how to refill a "cigalike", and how much cheaper buying ejuice was than to buy the refill cartriges. That is what justified it for me. So, I would pop the top off the end of the ecig, and pop in some Jhonson Creek vanilla... To me, it didn't taste as good as the original prefilled, but the frugality kept me doing that and not cigas.

I really don't think we can put a "10 steps to successful vaping" in stone. We are all so different, and although I do agree with much you said, I don't think that formula is a be all end all.

Still, it's a pretty good formula for someone who just wants to quit. And I've seen some quit just this way.

As we spend some time vaping though many, perhaps most, discover that there are a great many reasons that we smoked. And practically none of them had to do with nicotine. Sometimes removing the veil reveals that we just enjoy the pastime (and the company).

Good luck and a great vape. :)

When I started, there was one vape shop 50 miles away. Through downtown Charlotte NC, before the I-485 Loop was completed. Literally, 41 traffic lights between me and where Independence Blvd meets with the Brookshire Freeway. No way.
Then someone opened a vape shop about 20 miles away. I was Christmas shopping at the time, and thought I would go check it out. 40% to 60% markup. An attractive young lady was jabbering nonstop about their wares until I pulled out a REOS Mods Woodvil. At that time the store owner stepped in, told me he had nothing to interest me, and that I should just leave.
There are now three vape shops in my town. I visited one about a year ago. It was set up like a bar, counter and stools. Indoor smog from where cloud chasers were sucking up free samples to compete for the biggest cloud. Asked the clerk a few questions about his e-liquid compositions, which he could not answer. And I left.
I can shop comfortably at home and online. Yes, there was a 'trial and error' period starting out, but at least I have more, and often better options at much lower prices.
I really don't agree with "never buy online" posted online. Just my :2c:

Considering the outrageous markup in many shops, buying online is not only a frugal choice, it's also a way to tell those shops they're too expensive. Yes, there needs to be a markup to cover overhead, but some shops charge double or even triple the price of a mod that can be had online for much cheaper.

Overall a very good post.

#3 depends a lot on where you live. I live in a small city/large town that didn't have any shops until recently. The nearest town with a shop was 40 miles away. Their prices are about double the prices online.

MTL vs DTL, I DTL at low wattage/high nicotine. I've never gone over 20w.

"You get what you pay for"
Not always true. There are some vendors that sell very good juice at a reasonable price. Juice is a high profit item. It costs pennies to make so it's the big money maker for vendors.

I would also add one thing. Your taste buds will go through many changes after you quit smoking. Start with small bottles and try lots of different flavors as you go.

I agree with most of the other advice.

While I don't necessarily agree with all of your sentiments, I am happy that you have found what works for you and your GF. We've all taken the journey via different paths and we have all spent a LOT of money finding the way to our personal vaping nirvana.

Unfortunately sometimes there is no substitute for experience, which takes time and can be costly in this case.

I think it's more of a general guidelines to help people quit, as myself have seen some of these in Op's post that i disagree with but it's still a great start for someone who simply wants to quit cigs imho.

I think the not buying online would apply to a new user that has no knowledge or preferences yet.
In this case a visit to a B&M would be beneficial for hands on and taste testing...
If you know what you want - then yes to buying online.

I would have never found my preferred juice if I bought locally, even today, no vape shops around here even offer anything close to what I vape. All I see is bubblegum and ice cream type juices in those kid type bottles that aren't over 12mg nic, so have always ordered online. Yes I have wasted a lot of money for sure, but looking back, it was an awesome experience. Love ordering , waiting, and trying those liquids, while getting familiar with various online vendors. I guess if your a low nic vapor, who likes fruity COPYRIGHTDMCA or that type of juice, then perhaps local places are good because some not only carry their own line, but other more popular lines. if your a high nic, none fruity, ice cream flavor type person then you will have a hard time. Same with devices, if I was just starting out and preferred a solid mtl set up, my choices would be vastly limited in most local shops
