I wish that when I vape in public that people would stop staring and pointing and whispering and just ask me what's in my hand. I'd be happier than a pig in slop if this were the case. Instead they'd rather assume god knows what. In few instances the younger crowd will ask me what's up, but that's not the norm. It almost makes me feel dirty and ashamed like I'm doing [moderated] something. Might as well be for all they know.

I know, I know... who cares what anyone thinks.

Put a big label on your mod that says "e-cig". And wear a baseball cap that says "I like vaping better than smoking".

Maybe they'll get a clue.

I can't say I share your feelings of embarassment or self consciousness though. That is more of a personal thing you just have to get over.

I'm with you NittyGritty... it irritates me too! I dont mind people asking, although if i am in a non-sociable type of mood i would rather they just be on their way! Perhaps we could distract them by leaving our flys unzipped

The only people who have actually asked me are either smokers interested in getting one, or fellow vapers though - never anything negative.

My line of thinking, is that I don't want to turn anyone off to vaping, but at the same time, I'm confident that I am doing something that is more healthy for myself, so I vape in public with confidence. That said, I am not out to preach to anyone or force anything down people's throat either. If people come up and ask me, I'm happy to tell them what it is and why I do it. But I don't purposefully put it out in other people's face.
I also realize that most of the people I see out in public, chances are I will never ever see them again....so I don't really worry too much about it. Besides, if just one person comes up and wants to quit smoking, and I can show them something that can help them, I count that as a win!

I always vape respectfully of others. That's rule number one for me. I have no problem either answering others' questions about my vaping, or introducing myself and explaining what vaping is. Every situation is different. People are people. You get all kinds, but so many people are receptive to smoking cessation and interested in vaping once they are introduced to it. I like it. Better than GI Joes, imho.

I usually walk up to those people and tell them just that: You could ask me instead of just being rude. I'm more than happy to explain it.

There are only 2 reactions. Either they get mad, or they ask and start a real conversation. The pointing and such is declining though. Vaping is blowing up in south MS since like August so usually, I only have a Vamo and an eVic, they just come up and they're like "Oh my god! That thing is huge!" Which leads into some interesting comments with the ladies. I actually got a few phone numbers at a music festival down here a few weeks ago which is...weird. PV pick ups guys. It works!

Seriously, as long as you aren't doing anything wrong, let them talk, they probably have nothing to talk about anyway. It could allways be worse, they might be talking about what you chose to wear that day.

It's definitely getting better here but I live next to a joint base so we always have a huge influx of people. But we also have a huge group of Townie/Hipsters that live here and those are the guys I was talking about that usually ask me what I've got etc.

I change up my avatar a lot (I get bored) but the one I have now of me laughing in the car in front of a high end store....I was laughing because these uppity ladies were GLARING at me in the parking lot because I was vaping! Like mean, disgusted glares. I just got done "coaching" my friend about Ecigs/vaping because he said it was worse than smoking, blah, blah..

I told him that most people don't know squat about vaping and I catch people STARING at me like I'm an alien. We walked out to my car and these ladies were outside of their car talking and staring at me as I was walking and vaping. It was hilarious and we both started cracking up because i had JUST talked about this literally seconds prior.

My friend captured the pic, the ladies were by the car next to mine. I purposely and PROUDLY started vaping again in my car (which I never do) and it makes me smile when I see this pic because I find other people's ignorance humorous.
