I want to modify an Iatty cone so I can stack tanks. Basically just extend the straight tube that goes to the mouthpiece. I have a couple questions, so if anyone has answers chime in please.

1. What is the I.D./O.D. and grade of the SS tube connected to the cone?
2. Would the SS tube hold up to being swaged? (would it crack)
3. What would be the best way to make the permanent connection of SS to SS? Solder? Braze? Some type of adhesive?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

If I understand well, you need to extend the thin neck of the cone. So why do you want to stuck SS to SS and not make a new cone with longer neck?

Thanks Imeo. I guess that I did'nt think I would be capable and/or have the equipment to make a whole new cone, and I thought if it was worth it for you to make one you would have already done it. Now if you would decide to make a modified cone for this purpose, I would not argue with you about it.;-) :D

If I understand correctly. ..you could try to swedge another 4mm ss tube then use 45% silver to braise it together.

I'm not quite sure if it will crack though.

You may want to get another tube for the cone all together. You could drill the short one out of the cone, and braise the longer tube into the cone.

If you're having problems doing it. I could braise it for you.

Thanks for the reply. My first idea was to put a bell end(swage) on a piece of tubing and then braze it, but was'nt sure what to use, thanks for the 45% silver suggestion. I've been looking online to purchase a small amount of the 4mm od/2mm id tubing, but have'nt found it yet. Have any suggestions where to get it?

You can use a syringe. I did it by pressing the needle into the iatty cone and cut it off at the length you want. I got my syringe from a vet supply store. You can get syringes in many lengths and widths, and in SS.
Its handy because once its done you can adjust the iatty juice flow by popping off the MP, and the tube is right there to turn.

Just checked one of the nylon hubbed needles I have and the hub fits on the Iatty cone perfectly, just have to get a proper gauge needle. Do you know what gauge you got, and did you have to change the mouthpiece o-ring?

EDIT: After looking at a needle gauge chart it looks like 8.5 g. would be perfect, it has an O.D. of 3.96mm.
