I just whipped up my first batch of liquid and I have been searching around for steeping and aging methods. So far I found the hot rice method to work fairly well in a very short amount of time but, I just realized I have a DIY reptile incubator I made out of a mini fridge that is of no use this time of the year and figured why not give it a shot? Since I can adjust and monitor the temps I was wondering what an ideal temp would be to age the rest of the batch I made since I used the rice method for around a 20 ml batch.

That's for steeping, Steeping is aging. Read my blog on steeping it will tell you all you need to know about the types and details of different steeping methods.

Fruits no steeping to 1hour
Creams and deserts 2 - 4 hours
Tobaccos 3 - 5 hours.

I have other helpful recommendations that also may interest you.

Well I kinda got the speed steeping down with the dry hot rice method though its not as exact as just setting a temp and being able to let it sit at that controlled temp But what I was trying to do was differentiate the two processes to avoid controversy by those who like to go on about the practice of actually letting it age in a cabinet not being considered steeping by their opinion.

I think I might try setting my heat tape in my DIY unit to that temp though and see how it turns out to use as a speed steeping unit that can be more efficient than the dry hot rice method.

Thanks for the links also. It looks like its going to be some good reading material if my area gets bad weather tomorrow.

steeping, aging, curing, melding, pasteurizing, Letting it sit, Making it collect dust, Spoiling, Sitting out, Moisturizing, Salivating, Incubating, Flatulating, Baking, Boiling, Warming, Vibrating, Shaking, Maturing

As far as I'm concerned Steeping still works for me.
