If you dropped your nic level, when/how did you decide the time was right?

smoked 1.5 packs a day of marlboro lights for eons....started at 18mgs -- way too much. dropped to 12 immediately, stayed there a month or two, then that started feeling like too much (because i vape my brains out!), so, down to 6 -- stayed there for a long time...now, i mostly vape 4mgs or less (so i can vape my brains out even more!).

ditto .. although I started at 36mg because I had smoked Marlboro Reds, not the Lites. I dropped my nic down every 6-8 weeks until eventually I got to where I am now, at 4mg. I love being down that low because I chain vape constantly and that way I dont worry about nic overload.

So I have a question.

Do you vape different flavors when dropping nic levels or do you vape just one?

In my case, I vape different flavors. Though, in that sometimes you will find little a variance in strength of liquid available when you drop down.

5,10,15,20,25 versus a 6,12,18,24 system for example ... So though I may vape 15's normally, I might not be able to get that at another vendor, so 12 or 18 will have to make do. In practical terms, I really can't tell the difference.

If I vape 24 all day, I get a headache, and if I tried to vape 6 all day which I've tried, I get irritable and edgy. Everyone is different in that regard, that's just how it was for me. The numbers scheme above though, combined with vendors being out of stock of a certain strength, show why there is a variance of what I have in mg strength more than any other factor.

40 days ago I was a PAD with Camel Filters.
37 days ago I was 2-5 analogs a day with 18mg
30 days ago I was 0 analogs a day with 24mg
5 days ago I got 20mg and was quite satisfied (still 0 analogs)
Today I got 18mg and plan on mixing carts filled with it and carts filled with what's left of my 24 and 20 for the next month or so. (still 0 analogs)
Next month I plan on stepping down between 18 and 12 if possible.

I also have some 0 nic kicking around just to puff on when I'm at home to keep my inner pyro happy. I just got some 4mg in a flavor I like for home, to see if that works to satiate me while hanging out inside and chain vaping.

Really though, I think it's a partially a matter of what you're used to prior, and how frequently you vape. If you have the ability to chain vape all day, a lower nic level will probably do great for you. But, if you're like me and during the work day go out hourly, something that's closer to an analog (18+) probably works best.

In regards to those that have to go out hourly: Dilution is probably key. I stepped down from 24mg to 20mg without skipping a beat. From that, I think that in another few weeks I'll step down to 18mg completely leaving the 20's behind.

I've been vaping about 5 weeks now, and the 2nd week I was vaping, I suddenly had a "revelation" that nicotine was a "poison" and couldn't stop thinking about how much poison I was putting in my body!

So, I've stepped down every week from 24mg, to 18mg, to 16mg, to 12mg, and this week I'm vaping 6mg, and had to order 0mg today for next week.

One trick, for those vaping lower nic level juices, is to exhale slooower after the hit. The absorption of nicotine while vaping is a little different than with traditional cigarettes. While vaping, much more of the nicotine is absorbed by the mouth, throat, & nose as compared to traditional cigarettes which get most of the absorption in the lungs. Also, with cigarettes, the nicotine absorption is almost instantaneous upon your first drag after lighting the cigarette. With e-cigs, it can take as long as several minutes before the nicotine absorbs & kicks in (after each hit).

For those trying to get used to lower nicotine level vaping, do a super slooow exhale and savor the flavor in both your mouth & nose. This is a good vaping technique when you feel like you are not getting enough absorption at ultra low nicotine levels. After your body adjusts then go back to regular vape hits.

I'm currently at 6mg during the day and 0mg at night. Eventually I will be vaping 100% zero nicotine 24/7.

After 10 months of 36mg, I've been using 24mg for the past couple of weeks. Not sure if it's really made that much of a difference, because I'm actually just going through my liquid more quickly. I'd like to get down to 18mg and start DIY to save money, but it's not going to matter if I just keep using more liquid to compensate.

The only other time I tried to lower nic was the first month or two of vaping. I went straight down to 12mg and immediately starting craving cigarettes.

Around 5 months ago I became concerned that the flavorings used to flavor eLiquids may not be all that safe. Decided since I was DIY I'd leave all flavoring out of my Blends. At that time I also accidently forgot to add nicotine to my DIY Blend. All I can say is that my ecig experience has been a series of accidents. 1) I accidently quit smoking tobacco cigarettes by switching to PV use, after 6 months, exclusive use of PV. 2) I accidently quit all nicotine because I accidently left all nicotine out of my DIY Blend. After having smoked tobacco cigarettes, 2.5 pad when I stopped, for more than 52 years, I figure I sort of accidently quit smoking. Who'd a thunk it? I didn't believe I could ever quit, let alone, accidently quit. JMHO

Wow, 52 years wow. I'd be so happy if I quit after 52 years. And by accident? That's just a great story.

My coworkers think I'm full of .... with my solution for quitting smoking. I was a heavy chain smoker for 3 years (2 cartons a week). The 3 year part is where my story falls apart for them. They've been smoking for 10+ years so they don't see much use in trying what worked for me.

Anyways, I discovered when I first quit analogs my withdrawl problems were from the oral fixation that I got from cigs. I really really enjoy the sensation of puffing something tasty. It was about 6 months later that I tried one of those cheap disposable ecigs from 7-11 which came with 24 mg. My body wasn't really used to having nic in it's system anymore since I was smoke free for 6 months. When I got a real vaporizer and a choice of eliquid I just started at 0mg instead of going high. Moral of my story is my real addiction wasn't to nicotine, it was the puffing.

i started at 24mg, found it to be too high for the amount i wanted to vape. dropped to 18 to get rid of the over-nic symptoms, which worked nicely. a few weeks later a vendor was out of the juice I wanted in 18mg, so I ordered 12. vaped it for a week almost exclusively with no craving issues, so I started buying 12. Now i've gotten some 6mg juices in a similar circumstance, and am finding no issues with them either. Less throat hit, so I may not totally move down to 6, but like several others in the thread, i've found that the vaping itself as an activity is much more critical for me than the nic level of my juice.

I've only just started vaping but this sounds exactly like me, I smoked around 1.5 PAD too, I'm cutting out cigarettes tomorrow but the 18mg liquid i have is just too much, gives me stomach pains and can make my head feel a bit swimmy, so i'm really hoping that the new 12mg im mixing up when my 0mg arrive is gna be better for me, and im hoping i can cut out cigarettes and be down to like 4mg too!

I started vaping end of last year. I was a 2-3 pack a day smoker. I have been vaping 24-25mg and vaping about 6ml per day. When I first started vaping, this was BARELY getting me by. (I do think that the lack of the MAOI cocktail contained within tobacco smoke might explain some of the bumps when you are changing over. I compensated by simply vaping more.)
I tapered off my smoking. It wasn't long after my last analog that I adjusted and evened out. I even got to the point to where I wasn't craving the morning rush anymore.
Recently, I notice that I am going longer between vaping. After my recent batch is over, I am going to mix up some 18 and see what happens. I am suspect I will start vaping at the frequency I was at when I first started vaping, and then even off again. If the pattern continues, I will keep reducing.
Throughout all of this, I havent really overthought anything or even used much pressure or planning. It just seems to be taking some kind of natural course.
