Hippies aren't welcome in your neck of the woods?! I'm heart broken

That's mostly who I work with - even the owner has some pretty massive dreadlocks. Just little hippies in a pumpkin bus would have a big surprise come dusk.

I need a commune for one, J5. I don't think I'm tolerant enough for society anymore

Then you'd fit in just fine up here. No need for a commune at all. The communes up here are... a little different. They even gave one a TV show. The Hutterites may be a little different, but they sure put some good chicken in our store.

Morning Fran and everyone!

[Puts on safari hat & fake British accent]
The biggest thing is to make sure they hear/smell you long before you can see them. They'll usually make themselves scarce. Even if they're eating something, they'll typically hide & keep an eye on you from somewhere near the kill. If you stumble across a kill, you just want to move along quickly while keeping your wits about you. Don't go "looking for trouble". This time of year I wouldn't be planning any hikes through a berry patch. To you, it might seem innocent enough, but not to a bear who's instincts are telling it to fatten up.
.

Well, thank goodness I have no interest in hiking and if I ever find myself in that predicament, I'll be sure and have my necklace with bells on and maybe I'll spray it with patchouli to ensure the whole forest can smell me!

As miserable as the rain is I'm very happy the HEAT is over with.

Me too, J...it was definitely a hotter than usual summer for us this year. I'm blessed in that I have central air in my house, though. But working outside around underground storage tanks in the heat this summer was very very hard on me.

I have a healthy respect for the bears, elk and other critters. I'm just an old wore out hippie and would prefer not to have to outrun anything ;)
amen to that. Heck, I still run from....bees8-o. No matter what...I can't stay still. It's not in me. I'm amazed at how fast I can still run when my adrenalin kicks in.

I like turtles snakes. I had a ball python as a pet for a few years. Sadly one winter my housemate was out of town for the week on business per usual, I worked at a ski resort an hour away & got snowed in at the resort for a few days... they had all the roads/highways closed. I came home to find the power had been out, the house was freezing & his heat lamps obviously went out with the power. He didn't make it. :(

I'm still here on ECF... sort of. ;)

I remember when we were little and my sister sat by the entrance hole of an underground hive. She got a whole bunch of bees inside her pants. She looked funnier than heck running across the field after she ripped her pants off. We were too busy laughing to worry about the rest of them.
