That's one online petition, and I am hoping that this can serve as another one.

OK Illinois vapers, time to make your voice heard, lets tell the state government that we are proud to vape and be off cigarettes, and that we don't need them running our lives.

E-cigarettes and the e-liquid that they use is currently on the verge of being banned for sale in the entire state and we need to take charge and give the opposed people in the IL government some ammunition to fight against this bill with.

If you live in IL or were from here or are just passing through we need your help and your voice to stop this bill before it becomes law and we have to go cold turkey or worse... back to smoking.

All I ask for is your name and the city you live in saying that you are against both bills. Any personal stories of how vaping has changed your life are also welcome.

If enacted, HB 5689 would:
*Require all e-cigarette liquids to be sold in "special packaging" and require the Illinois Department of Public Health to establish standards for such packaging

* BAN the sale of all e-cigarette liquids in Illinois until these regulations are enacted.

Show the government that we won't just roll over without having our say... join the movement, save vaping!

etherealink, you don't get it.

Financially, the State of Illinois is so far in the hole it's lower than whale feces. It desperately needs each and every tax dollar it can get. If you stop smoking cigarettes and substitute vaping, it loses all those cigarette tax dollars. They can't tax vaping hardware and e-liquids (except for retail sales tax): we'd just buy everything online or out of state.

The State of Illinois wants you to keep smoking cigarettes, and the only way they can figure to do this is by banning the sale of vaping goods within the state. They absolutely do not care if their policy results in needless illness and/or premature death of tens of thousands of Illinoisans. They want their tax dollars.

It seems to my wife and me that the only solution is to vote with our feet. When she retires, we're outta here.

Do they realize people will go out of state to get nic? It's like the saga of NYC ban (via taxes). It's now the biggest cigarette black market in the US. The tax increase hasn't helped. The bans won't help. It's a vicious cycle.

Did they take into account how many local business' will go under?

aikanae1, Cook County in Illinois recently raised the county cigarette tax by $1.00 per pack. Cigarette tax revenues actually declined because of the increased smuggling from neighboring counties and the states of Wisconsin and Indiana.

But, no, they don't realize that their tax increase is the reason for the decline in revenues. They may be thinking it's all due to us evil vapers evading the cigarette tax by vaping instead.

The Illinois, Cook County and Chicago City governments don't care if they put people out of work: the unemployment compensation is paid entirely via the taxes Illinois employers have to pay into that fund (currently the second highest rate in the country) plus the federal government. Incidentally, Illinois has the highest unemployment rate in the Midwest.

The City of Chicago's population has declined by a million over the last 50 years. Have those people moved to the suburbs? Not necessarily: when I was a kid, Illinois had 25 congressmen, and now it only has 18.

Gee, I wonder what happened?

MC, I understand that they value greed over votes and peoples lives, yes. I do, however hope that a few people can get together and show that we are not just rolling over.

As far as leaving on retirement, I doubt I will even make 5 years and I'm in my 30's.

This bill doesn't have a fly's chance in hell of being passed, If you ban it they can't tax it, they can't be that stupid and not see that, they can spout for the children all day long but in the end money talks, and it doesn't matter who lives or dies, its America, by the dollar, for the the dollar. I hope you guys up there can fight it off, I am still thankful nothing in Texas has been released yet but I think we are ready for it.

Not to worry, you all can just stock up when you come up to Lambeau to watch the Packers. :)

Seriously, Ill. can and will pass some of the craziest laws known in the free world. And it's mostly coming from the population center of Chicago. If the rest of the state had their way it would be a much different story. (And most would be Packer fans)

Could it be the workers are getting tired of paying for those that elect not to?

This appears to be becoming a recurring them. Large metro areas, small on square miles within a state controlling the politics. The suburbs and rural areas end up propping up the city economies.

Definitely it's the case that the Chicago tail wags the Illinois dog. Metropolitan Chicagoland is better than half the population of Illinois.

That's why there are serious secession movements going on in rural counties in California, Oregon, Colorado, Maryland and other states.

I wouldn't mind much if there were two states, Pa and Philadelphia.

The bill does not ban the sale of vaping equipment. It would ban e-liquids until regulations are put in place by the Department of Public Health, and God probably doesn't even know how long that would take. The bill passed the House 105 to 10 with only one Democrat voting against it. Not only does the bill have a "chance in hell" of passing in the Senate, it hardly has a chance in hell of NOT passing in the Senate as the Democrats control the Senate. Nevertheless, residents of Illinois still need to contact their Senators and tell them this bill endangers both the health of ex-smokers who rely on e-liquids to stay off cigarettes, and it would destroy small businesses. Petitions are just a start. Each call or letter or email is presumed to represent many voters, since legislators know most voters will never contact them about anything.
