E-cigarettes an emerging alternative (IL)
E-cigarettes an emerging alternative - Springfield, IL - The State Journal-Register

Please note that ALA's Kathy Drea campaigned to ban e-cigarette sales to adults in Illinois in 2010 (by falsely claiming the products were target marketed to youth), and Drea also refused to support a proposed ban on e-cigarette sales to youth in 2010 (after the Chair of the House Health Cmte withdrew her support for the ban on sales to adults).

Also, the Health Dept. staffer's claim that the US DOT banned e-cigarette use on airlines is inaccurate.

There also are concerns the flavored products attract the young.

“The flavor part of it is particularly troubling because that kills the taste,” said Drea. “That could appeal to young people.”

Still on the first page, but ^^^ huh??? Haven't heard this one before: Flavor kills the taste? Kills the taste of what? I assume she's implying that flavors are added to mask the "taste" of nicotine, but I thought, according to the ANTZ, flavoring is added to attract chiiiiiiildren. Oh never mind, I'm in "easily confused" mode today...

I suggest she couldn't care less about the nicotine/caffeine argument.
She's opposed to smoking and anything which would bring smoking to mind
which would include e-smokers blowing vapor clouds.
I'm sure she doesn't care about the nic/coffee argument as well. My observation from her comments is she is anti nicotine too!!:)

I can't find any publication where the FDA is quoted saying that, but it might be true. Under section 918 of the tobacco Act, the division of the FDA that regulates smoking cessation treatments (the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, aka CDER) is charged with finding innovative ways to help smokers quit and to give those products a "fast track." So if a company submitted their product to CDER and cited section 918, it's possible the FDA could be regulating e-cigarettes in two different ways. Those submitted to CDER would be regulated as a treatment, and the rest of the products would be regulated as a tobacco product under Section 911.
