the great thing about the Volt's and ones like it (bloog etc) is that you can purchase a PCC (personal charging case) and like the others advise, definately have at LEAST 2 of these little beauties in your arsenol, one can be charging while you vape on your other and it kinda makes those massive tubes a mute point as you will always have a fresh battery when you need it. Also check out the utube reviews on the Volt's even guys who use the mods or egos were impressed with the vapour and the satisfaction of the throat hit etc. Im not saying this ecig will be the one and only that will work for you but its definately a better start than those little blu type ones, also the longer volts last up to 3 hours (220 mah or 320 mah) just depends how long you want them the shorter ones may be enough as you have indicated you are not a heavy smoker.

Why are you hating on the Blu???? ;) Just kidding. Seriously though, that's what I started on and recently upgraded to the eGo, but I don't regret my choice. I still use the Blu fairly regularly, like when I'm working around the house, or outside so that I can tuck it behind my ear. Or sometimes I just want the feel of the 'draw' on an automatic. Either way, I bought a handful of pre-filled and then started filling those cartos after they got low. I've been quite happy with the Blu and the output of flavor/th/etc. I'm also happy with my choice to upgrade to the eGo so when I'm sitting back on the couch I can enjoy long periods of vape without having to recharge. I also like the ability to drip different flavors when I'm at the vape store to test them. Both PV's have a purpose and I use them both, they also both have advantages and disadvantages... None the less, they have kept me analog free for 8 days now and I'm stoked about it!! You've read up and studied, which is the first step. If you get a small PV and aren't happy with it, just know that there are bigger and better PV's out there, don't be discouraged. I wish you the best and welcome to the ECF!

We all have our own reasons we started with what we started with. If we've upgraded, we have our reasons why we upgraded and why we chose the particular next step we chose. The most important thing is that we started!

I wanted small and discreet. I didn't think about "analog-like", just "please don't look at me like I'm weird or doing something weird". My first PV looked like a capped ink-pen so it worked for the discreation I needed and it worked to get me off the analogs. It was the right choice for me.

I will forever be grateful for finding ECF and the support I received while on that "skinny". I don't recall ever being told I made a wasteful or ill-advised decision. If I had been, I would have in all probability, gone back to the smokes because I would not have stayed around to read, learn, and discover what options are available or what to expect in those first very important weeks.

Of late, perhaps it occurred from time to time before I signed in as well, I don't know, but in the last week or so it just seems the "New Members Forum" has become a battle of "egos". . . pun intended.

OP, it doesn't matter what you start with or whether or not you ever upgrade . . . JUST GET STARTED!!

Wishing you the greatest success!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to all that have offered well wishes and advice. I've promised my brother in law a kit as well - and now I'm thinking of getting 2 different kits so at least I can try both. The Volt never made my shortlist and the eGO seemed like it might not be as hassle free and portable as an 808 (it was always going to be an 808 or a 510 to start) but I may have to do a little more research.

Giddee up.

KR808 is a good kit but I highly suggest getting a couple extra batteries, a drip tip (makes it feel nicer on the lips) and a pcc if they offer one for sale. I still have a couple of mine and still use them to this day when I want something lighter and different than what I generally use. They are small enough to fit behind your ear but I'm not so sure if the weight of one is going to be a problem for you or not. However, they will be a good starting point. The only disadvantage I can see, and where you're going to spend a lot of cash, is with the pre-filled cartomizers. Please reconsider, after trying out your kit, filling your own. It will save you a bunch of money and those cartomizers can be reused instead of just tossed.

I know that the Bloog is a KR808-style and from what I've seen of the Volt it looks to be the same, but not positive. I started out w/ a Bloog starter kit and some pre-filled cartos a few months ago. Had mixed results w/ it until I started ordering my own juices. Once I found a few that I really liked, vaping became much easier to stick to. Of course, once I began to vape more regularly, battery life became an issue. I did a lot of research on here and watched a ton of youtube vids and bought a Kgo kit a few weeks ago. My experience w/ it has been somewhat limited so far, as I've had some issues w/ the 510 cartos (started filling them w/ the condom method for some reason and burnt a few out w/ the thicker juices I currently have), but when it worked it worked like a champ. Needless to say I'm eagerly awaiting my next juice shipment (fingers crossed it arrives later today) so that I can start my 510 experience over again now that I know what I'm doing.

All that being said though, I still go back to my bloog pretty regularly at present. For whatever reason, the Kgo batts I got don't have the five click shut off feature  so I tend to take my bloogs w/ me when I'm out and about and save the Kgo for when I'm just chillin at home. I'm strongly considering buying an Echo kit (large-capacity, automatic, 808-compatible fat batt) to use w/ my bloog cartos though. So far I've had much better luck w/ them than I have w/ the Boges.

I can relate to wanting your first PV to be small and concealable. I started with a 510 mega for this reason, after vaping for over a year I don't care how big my ecig or mod is anymore. The concerns i had prior to vaping were size, taste of eliquid imitating tobacco and battery life. I thought i didn't need a ego, and i also thought i would stick to tobacco flavored eliquids. I was wrong in both cases, the size of the ecig doesn't weigh in with me anymore as long as it works and last, i also discovered i didn't want my eliquid to taste like tobacco because tobacco doesn't taste good. I use menthol because i like menthol though, in general i prefer menthol and grape or banana TBH. When you start into the world of vaping you really have no idea what you will like or need, you just tend to think ecigs should imitate a real cig as close as possible.

If i had it to do all over again I would have went with a madvapes 3.7 volt boxmod that way i get real 3.7 and can change batteries without it being proprietor dominated. All in all the joye 510 mega kit was a good start IMHO. I don't think many people want to quit a cig habit and go straight into carrying around a black box all day, it just seems odd to them.

Hi,

To all of you that have provided advice / opinions / personal experience - thank you. I'm afraid that my intent of introducing myself, my motivation, and thought process may have been lost somewhere along the way.

I might even be more confused than when I started. I'm going to look into the above mentioned suggestions (KGO, Volt, bigger batteries, juice from the get go). I really just wanted to get my feet wet with the experience and then move up from there. I'm also buying a kit for my brother in law (same person that had his no name unit break after 5 days). As much as I am keen on the 'analog' experience to start he is even more so (he is a construction foreman, constantly smokes while working, is really into the red-light and analog look for social vanity).

Maybe I was too cute in my intro - or too verbose.

We are smokers not vapers. We both would like to quit first and foremost (I have a 2 year old son - who thinks smoking is my job - re: I have to go outside to get to work, when I smoke I go outside, so my guy trying to piece it all together asked me: Daddy is smoking your job?) My brother in law has a 2 year old daughter. I would like to quit for myself and my child, and my wife (not out of love - but the nagging.... kidding).

I appreciate all of the advice - i really do. And I understand people passing on their experience - but even in the few posts I have read - it seems that no one solution is right for everyone. Or people 'find' what is best for them - and maybe not on the first go round.

<*Correction: When I started typing this - I was super worried that I was about to trigger PV-War 3! Since then the posters acknowledged that vaping is journey, usually started by the need to give up analogs, and then becomes much more. I'm sure I'll get there (Habit to Hobby) but baby steps... so you can ignore my comments above trying to figure out why people were getting 'opinionated' *>

Semantic question - is there a brick and mortar in Toronto where I can try out different units before purchasing. Again a noob, so I don't know if you can buy a carto - try out a unit, wait - try out something different. Probably not - but thought I would ask.

I think you are on the right route. Nothing wrong with starting with the VOLT or any other decent KR808 and "cig" like battery (although try to hold a batt behind your ear is diffcult as they have some weight to them). If this is what your comfortable with to start then GO FOR IT! Just know that you may end up wanting to upgrade at some point in the future.. but cross that bridge when you get to it.

You are correct that there are MANY options available that most have no idea about... until they come here and get throughly confused. BUT there are many good people here, and they will be willing to help when and if you decide to upgrade.

Good luck!!!
