I'm not a smoker. Is this worth getting into?

Hi everyone!

I first learned about e-cigarettes recently, and I've spent the past few days trying to keep my head above water learning about everything. I find the idea fascinating. However, I'm coming at this as a non-smoker (I've never so much as tried a cigarette before). I went to a hookah bar a few months ago with some friends and had my first (and thus far only) experience with tobacco. Over the course of several hours I got to try a whole variety of flavors which I enjoyed tremendously, although I really didn't care for the nicotine high (it made me unpleasantly lightheaded, and not in a fun way). If I dive into all of this, it will be purely with nicotine free flavors. Nicotine is an extremely powerful and addicting drug that I have no interest in messing with. I am, however, intrigued by the idea of injecting more vanilla, mint, chocolate, and apple into my life :)

Here are my questions:

1.) As someone who would only be vaping a few times a week just for the flavors and because I think it will be fun (and also the "oh cool, I'm blowing really real looking fake smoke" factor), do you think it will be worth it?

2.) Given that I would be taking drug use out of the equation, a lot of the usual concerns about battery life, atomizer life, and cartridge life don't really apply to me. I don't need to rely on one of these things to make it through the work day and stave off nicotine withdrawal. Therefore, is there any typical newbie advice that you feel doesn't apply to me, or that you would modify? I've gathered that the 901 is the way to go when you're just starting out, but I've been wondering if maybe a smaller unit is the way to go for more casual use since battery life isn't a major issue.

3.) Are there any other people on here who don't actually use flavors with nicotine?

4.) None of the flavor sample packs I've found so far come in nicotine free versions. They all have 18 mg here or 11 mg there, etc. Are there any sample packs that I could get?

Thanks for your help!

Even though you would not be using nicotine, I still wouldn't start up with vaping in your situation.

Honestly, no one knows the long-term consequences associated with vaping. The vast majority of us are/were addicted to tobacco, so we generally feel pretty comfortable with the idea that it just can't be as bad as smoking.

If I weren't a smoker, there is no way in hell I'd start vaping. No way. None. Zip. Zero.

Morning UNLESS YOU ARE INDEPENDENTLY WEALTHY
and money is of no concern for you, AT ALL and you DO NOT have an
addictive personality, go have at it

however, if you are a working stiff, like most of us and do have a tendency to go a little over board on things you like

I would RUN RUN RUN away

Ya made it this far in life without getting peer pressured into the "smoking" habit why start now. There are MUCH cooler gadgets out there to spend all that money on!!!

you can read what others were saying over there as well....

Is anyone else a bit suspicious that posts like this one from "nonsmokers" who are new to the forum are actually plants from those who would love to ban vaping? I see this as a test question to see if we would actually encourage a nonsmoker to start vaping nicotine. Next, we will probably see posts from 12 year olds, pregnant women, and a host of others pretending to want advice about starting to vape e cigarettes.

You could be right sherid.....but I don't think there is 'any' chance of finding anyone on here who would actually encourage a non-smoker to start vaping. The only one's who 'might' are the people who could make some money out of it.

I honestly wish i had never started smoking and have tried to quite several times. I would and do recommend vaping to people that smoke analogs, but I also recommend that if you don't smoke don't take up vaping.
If you do decide to take up vaping then please do as you have stated and stick to no nic.
I read a lot of good things about the 901, but I cant compare it since didn't get one myself. Using the Evo(similar to pilot/M401) which I find is fairly small and works/lasts well for my needs.
I recommend checking out Leaford - An E-Smoker Forever! -|- Leaford’s reviews, E-Cigs, E-cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, e-pipes, YouTube - igetcha69's Channel reviews, to many great reviewers to list, but there are others as well.
good luck with your decisions.

Hey idontusetobacco,

Look at your first question.

1.) As someone who would only be vaping a few times a week just for the flavors and because I think it will be fun (and also the "oh cool, I'm blowing really real looking fake smoke" factor), do you think it will be worth it?

It doesn't look cool. It looks ridiculous, just like smoking cigarettes do. I think they should only be use for smoking cessation only. It's also a money pit. It's not my intention to offend anyone, but why introduce one more into your body that could possibly harm you.

You know, it's almost impossible to believe that I was ever young enough that I thought smoking looked cool. :(

And I agree with Thickfog . . . vaping doesn't look cool. For the most part, it looks like you're sucking on a pen, or, in some cases, a screwdriver.

But, yeah, I'm starting to think the "I'm not a smoker but want to vape" posts are bogus.
