I'm pretty sure I just set off the SMOKE ALARM at Kroger, OMG!

Addiction is a condition that results when a person ingests a substance (e.g., alcohol, ......., nicotine) or engages in an activity (e.g., gambling, sex, shopping) that can be pleasurable but the continued use/act of which becomes compulsive and interferes with ordinary life responsibilities, such as work ...

Tell me how vaping is an addiction again?

I'd say it's actually a habit we all enjoy rather than an addiction.

The key difference between dependance and addiction is harm. Calling it an addiction is actually just more ANTZ rhetoric.

Do I need to bring up people fighting for their right to drink during prohibition? Puritans have been forcing their "Addiction" rhetoric on people who have a dependance for decades when they are clearly different things and it really needs to stop.
Yes alcohol can be abused to the point that it fits the definition of an addiction. I seriously doubt anyone is having problems getting to work because of their dependance on vaping though so I think you're actually just wrong on the basis that you chose to use the word addiction in the first place.

Now that I think of it i guess you are right, it's akin to people who constantly use the 'ANTZ' label on people who have just aren't pro-vaping on every subject. I've seen a few threads of people complaining they are going to quit or move out due to the fact that their workplace/living area doesn't allow vaping. Then again I guess it's their choice to actively chose not to go to work or not live in a vape-free environment. Which sort of comes back to peoples preferences and not the whole ban on vaping deal. I'm sure if vaping was big enough that there were a handful of people vaping in establishments like grocery stores, restaurants, etc, businesses would start to put up 'no-vaping' signs in their establishments, in fact I've heard of bars and restaurants doing so already. If a bunch of people started vaping at grocery stores/movie theatres etc, im pretty sure they would put up no-vaping signs as well. I'm willing to bet most establishments would put up no -vaping signs, if public vaping was a big enough thing.

Even if they did put up no-vaping signs that's well within their rights. What I want is that businesses have the freedom to choose. If we just agree to vape where we smoked then noone will resist the movement to ban vaping indoors and then vapeshops can't even choose (which we're facing in Ontario)

I agree with you on that, but I also feel this is a battle that has to be fought in certain places by certain people. Vapeshops and owners fighting back for example, would be a good thing, public acts like intentionally vaping in a theatre or grocery store would create more of an outcry to ban vaping than garner more support from vapers and vapeshops.

Yes. And you are also free to tell them you don't like their perfume. You don't have the right (imo) to tell them how to smell, that their sense of smell is 'wrong' or that they need to be so considerate of the fact that you may end up in a confined space with them that they should change their behavior on your behalf.

Sorry - but this self-centered, entitled attitude really rubs me the wrong way.

If I don't like your perfume/cologne I may judge you according to my preference. But I'll defend your right to wear that nasty perfume if you like...

Obviously, you don't know me, or get me at all. I am the polar opposite of someone who is self centered or entitled. I go out of my way to be considerate of other people. And judging by what I see when I go out, I am one of an extremely small minority.

Some people have sensitivities or allergies to certain scents and odors. I wasn't talking about liking or disliking someone's cologne or perfume, I was talking about some of those scents that literally make me physically ill. BIG DIFFERENCE!

Quite honestly I will drop this entire subject. This is exactly why I don't bother going out in public if at all possible. I am so sick of everyone feeling the entitled to do whatever they want wherever they want without the slightest concern for other people. Our society has become very rude.

So back in the "good old days" I guess people smoking everywhere weren't rude. Or everyone *was* rude and just didn't know it.

i think it was more of a mostly everyone smoked in the old days (depending on how far back you go), so everyone accepted it or was more open to it. Not everyone smokes nowadays, neither do they vape, regardless of what your stance is on the matter though, vaping in places that dont allow smoking in particular business and public establishments, seems to be frowned upon or bring unwanted hate due to the bad publicity that is being spread around by the media and politicians. Vaping in these places wont teach people the truth, it will just bring more uproar from the public because they already have an idea of what vaping is put into their brains by the media.

So what I would like to see is a society which is polite enough to allow me to enjoy something whenever I wish...provided we come to the conclusion that it's harmless.

No. Fire sprinklers do not work like the movies. They are pressurized and stoppered with either a frangible bulb or fuseable link both types activated by heat. Can't hack them and turn 'em on with your computer, can't turn one on with a lighter and make em all go off :p

It's true, I don't know you at all, really. And I appreciate folks like you (and my husband) who are so careful of others. However, while I do try to be nice and considerate of others, as well, I can't go so far as to anticipate every way my behavior may be offensive to others or misconstrued as deliberate callousness. One should also have the right to choose what is good for oneself, not only to live an inoffensive life for the sake of others.

Consider the Aesop fable, The Man, the Boy and the Donkey...

I didn't mean to come off rude or offensive.. After rereading the whole thing, I think I mistook how you meant your post..
I am not one to find fault with others as I have enough of my own.
The money that states are losing is what is really causes most of the alarms, but still feel we can contribute to those alarms..
Things typed on the net, isn't always read the way we mean them, since we aren't face to face and can see the how the other one is reacting..
Best wishes to you

It was normal and accepted and at least half of the population smoked and smoking was not considered rude as it was accepted everywhere. When I started smoking there was almost nowhere smoking wasn't permitted and accepted. It was not known, at the time, to be hazardous.

Right. And it is not known that vaping is hazardous. I don't believe the unknown should rule our lives.

Not gonna happen. There are tons of things that are harmless that are just unacceptable. I' moot going to list them but it shouldn't be too big a stretch to imagine what some of these things are.

No, it doesn't work that way. Sprinklers are triggered via heat and a lead link inside the sprinkler head. IOW -- a real fire. A smoke detector WILL call the red trucks with sirens blaring and will also automatically cause other automatic functions of the fire alarm system -- elevators are recalled to street level, fans are shut down, magnetically held doors will close, etc. And of course, the horns and strobes will blare. So, it's a lot more *embarrassing* than one may even think...

That's a far more involved system then a local Kroger would have installed :p

-If smoking is banned in an outdoor area, I WILL vape there if moving to a more "secluded" spot is even slightly inconvenient. It is outdoors where I feel in a comfortable enough position to challenge any objections to my vaping. Unless my vapor is up in your face, you best leave me alone. I'll respond to stranger's curiosity OR concern in whatever tone they address me, which is pretty much how I deal with people all the time.

Works out great for me, YMMV.

If you tried that at our Little League baseball fields, you'd be promptly escorted out. Refuse? You'd be escorted out in handcuffs and banned from the park.

Nope, I wouldn't have the right to tell them how to smell, nor do they. However, unlike folks that drench themselves in perfume, I try to be a little more respectful. But I also understand that not everyone does.

Well, I wasn't going to comment because you said you were dropping the entire subject, but you didn't so I will :)

There is a saying that goes something like; If everyone around us is always wrong, the problem is more than likely ours, not theirs.

I've probably got that nowhere near right, but you probably get the idea :thumb:

Vape on.

I totally understand. Its not like I haven't thought about it :). Or like I would never just do it because I was multitasking.

Thanks to your post though, I probably won't. The idea of the sprinklers possibly going off...yikes. I'm really glad that didn't happen.

the sprinklers require heat.... lots of heat. there are 2 main methods of sprinkler activation, the glass bulb filled with a highly expansive liquid that ruptures the bulb allowing the sprinkler to operate and the other is the metal fold tab... which softens and allows the valve to open....
in better systems there is a steady pressure on the pipes and when the pressure drops to a specified point a pump will kick on to increase flow and pressure.
