right. I thought the fire-dept link was automatic, too. So I'm waiting for the OP to come back and tell us if it was just someone in store security blowing a horn somehow, or if it really was a fire-alarm with auto-dispatch. By the time she got to her car, the trucks should have been pulling into the parking lot, sirens screaming and eye-candy jumping off the trucks in their cute little fireman (and firegal) uniforms !

Well, I wasn't going to comment because you said you were dropping the entire subject, but you didn't so I will :)

There is a saying that goes something like; If everyone around us is always wrong, the problem is more than likely ours, not theirs.

I've probably got that nowhere near right, but you probably get the idea :thumb:

vape on.

You don't even live here so how would you even know what I'm talking about.

I've been to Canada many times and if people acted there like they do here they would just disappear in the woods never to be seen again. :p

If I was much younger I would leave here and move to Canada in a heartbeat. People are much nicer there. :vapor:

the sprinklers require heat.... lots of heat. there are 2 main methods of sprinkler activation, the glass bulb filled with a highly expansive liquid that ruptures the bulb allowing the sprinkler to operate and the other is the metal fold tab... which softens and allows the valve to open....

in better systems there is a steady pressure on the pipes and when the pressure drops to a specified point a pump will kick on to increase flow and pressure.

The words you are looking for....frangible bulb and fuseable link.
All of them are pressurized.... The better ones are pressurized with air higher then the pressure of the water, holding a flapper valve closed. Bulb/link goes, pressure drops, valve opens, magic rain indoors :p

Not all fire alarms are directly linked to FD dispatch (unless you are in a military base FD as I was). Could you imagine the number of false alarms that would generate? I can't tell you how many times we went out.... For burnt popcorn. Imagine that city wide :p

You are more or less describing the system used in the power plant I used to work for. The reason for the pressurized air there was water in the lines would freeze, as most of the area under protection was outdoors. Fire hoses were a thrill, too. We used them for wash hoses and you would get a fair stream for a moment or two before the pumps kicked in.

It's true, I don't know you at all, really. And I appreciate folks like you (and my husband) who are so careful of others. However, while I do try to be nice and considerate of others, as well, I can't go so far as to anticipate every way my behavior may be offensive to others or misconstrued as deliberate callousness. One should also have the right to choose what is good for oneself, not only to live an inoffensive life for the sake of others.

Consider the Aesop fable, The Man, the Boy and the Donkey...

Right ON. I would never go out of my way to inconvenience or be rude to others; I always try to be polite. But I also don't waste my time worrying about what other people think -- that's THEIR problem, not mine. If someone chooses to be discountenanced by my vape when I'm walking around outdoors, they'll just have to put on their big kid panties and get over it. If I'm indoors in a public space, I may either stealth vape, if possible and leaving is not convenient or possible, or ask if vaping would bother anyone (if there are few enough present), or just do my best to wait if neither of the first two options apply. But if the waiting goes on for too long, then I'll find a bathroom. I see no benefit in being rude to others, but when others are rude to me, they probably won't like my reaction.

I am no the fence about this.
I dont vape in Grocery stores or restaurants Unless its allowed (its still allowed in a lot of places here, they have smoking sections. I dohowever never really use them because it means going in the smoking section and dealing with the smell of smoking in that section. I dont need to vape when I eat anyways.
you are not allowed to just smoke anywhere here. you have to either be outside a convienience store, or inside a larger store that has a smoking room. If i must vape... i stand right outside the smoking rooom if its filled with people. My vape is harmless... pushing me in there is harmful....
On the other hand.... if I got a ten hour flight, you betcha I am going to vape... alot. hell if I have a 1 hour flight, I vape. Not because I can...but because i want to.
ten hours sitting beside Joe fatman who decides he can take both the armrests and needs to get up to empty his bladder so frequently it makes you wonder why he is slowly drinking himself drunk, all the while wondering when the last time he took a shower was as you try to push his fat folds off you is stressful, And its not like anyone knows. If I feel I must vape in a place where smoking is nto allowed. I make sure the cloud is non existent or so close to non existent that it doesnt make a difference.

The reason. Vaping is not smoking, if it causes Nancy Nonsmoker to have some issues, Ill respect that, but without doing it, It causes me to be uncomfortable. So I believe in compromise. you wont know Im vaping....and ill be vaping. Everyone is happy.

As a higher up retail manager, ill let you in some secrets.

Don't be a jerk. If I ask you to stop, stop. There are ways around this because 90% of the time I'll ask you to be more sneaky. But if you are blowing huge clouds and continue after me being nice, I won't hesitate kicking you out.

A lot of the times, this scenario kicks off.

I see a fellow vaper in the wild. If they are being considerate and causing no attention, I let them keeping on. Wishing I could join them, more or likely.

However if they are causing a lot of attention or concern, I'll ask to pull them to the side. I'll pull out my mod to let them know I'm one of them, and I'm acting because more or likely a customer had a complaint. I'll let them know the bathroom is a good area to vape but the sales floor is not. If they want to continue they need to be super sneaky.

If you are in a no smoking area, ask if it's okay if you are really skeptical. WE know that vaping isn't smoking. The general public isn't use to that idea. So don't go blowing clouds thinking that will help.

Smoking in public was offensive to most non-smokers because it was acrid, persistent, and was actually a health concern to others. Cigarette smoke is medically reactive to just about everyone because it contains thousands of chemicals, many of them carcinogenic. We all experienced smoke hanging in the air in restaurants and stores when people were allowed to smoke everywhere.

Vaping in public at this point is pretty negligible. If it's done right in public, almost no one knows it's going on. If you flaunt it then yes, it's an issue. I usually ask for a table in a corner or in an area where the restaurant isn't full. If I sit at the counter I don't vape unless the restaurant is practically empty. When I do vape, the exhale goes under the table and my mod is enclosed in my hand.

If you blow clouds, people will look.

Ok all of you on the "it's a coincidence" band wagon win.... I'm happy exclaim :)

Mike Caudle (store manage) thought I was quite comical and got a laugh from my fear!! (My son actually worked at this Kroger for two years while he was in high school.)

When the fire alarm went off Mike had the back door open for the bread man who was making a delivery. He accidentally backed in too far, hit the smoke alarm on the wall and jarred it loose a bit. Obviously that's all it takes, ha!

He said it was annoying, blaring for over 15 minutes until the fire department got there and knew how to disconnect it.They had to hire a contractor to get it fixed.

SSssooo I'm OFF the hook but... A LOT of us peeps got to learn at my expense that vape CAN and WILL set off smoke alarms :)

Thanks to all of you who didn't "hate" me for my mistake:rolleyes:

Thank goodness no one else thinks it was me, oops!

I didnt know it would do that until I just googled it!

I seriously doubt it was you that set off the alarms. They could have been doing a drill like stores do in my area. I suggest not vaping in stores anymore just because of all the crap going on right now. If you feel you need too, then use high pg and hold it in so you don't exhale a cloud.

Also, from my own experience, vapor settles unless you blew it straight up. In my bedroom, it reminds me of a horror movie that has fog on the ground that the killer is walking through.
