"The author of a bill to ban the indoor use of electronic cigarettes said Friday that she does not want the restrictions to be as far reaching as originally proposed.
Rep. Kathleen Willis, D-Addison, filed House Bill 2404 in February, which would have prohibited indoor e-cigarette use, or "vaping," similar to other forms of tobacco. She said she plans to amend the bill by March 20 to limit the ban to inside school buildings, on school grounds and inside state-owned facilities."

While I think it's great that Rep. Willis is willing to dial back the scope of the ban--and I agree with inside school buildings and, yes, on school grounds--it still goes too far. State-owned facilities would include, among other things, VA facilities and various mental health facilities. :(

Imo, people should still be contacting Rep. Willis and letting her know that while you appreciate her allowing businesses to make their own choices regarding whether or not to allow vaping on the premises, the bill still goes too far. Vets and the mentally ill shouldn't be thrown under the bus.

The only reason Willis is proposing to change the bill is because she didn't have enough support (i.e. votes) in the IL House to get her original bill approved.

But as Julie notes, banning vaping in all state owned facilities would negatively impact many workers.

I urge Illinois vapers to respond by urging their IL Reps to oppose Willis' new proposal.

Since all cosponsors of Willis' bill are Democrats, its especially important to urge Republicans to oppose it.

It would be helpful if someone from IL compiled a list of many different state owned facilities that would be impacted.

Bill, In todays political climate, I'm fairly sure that if a bill is mostly sponsored by Democrats, then the Republicans are almost automatically against it.
If I'm not mistaken, then the Illinois legislature is Majority Dem., so unless she gets more push-back from her own party, then the bill will likely pass the way it's been amended. Illinois vapers/voters should urge ALL their legislators to oppose this.
Like it, or not vaping will be a political football, but I find it rather ironic that the party championing [CENSORED] legalization is the party doing the most to ban/restrict vaping in the name of "Public Health". If we could get them to actually READ the new research on vaping, they might begin to understand that they're doing more harm, than good.
