My garden is starting to dry up it is getting to hot and can't afford to keep water on it, wish it would rain. I did get a bunch a green and wax beans which I canned up yellow squash, zucchini, some white scalloped squash, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and some lima beans I will plant again in the fall broccoli, cabbage more squash and beans and of coarse tomatoes will be a little cooler and won't need as much water.

Hot peppers and red and yellow tomatos...one was green but it had started turning red already! Drat. Class I hope they are tasty.
I tried one of my green tomatos today fried..it was a bit too ripe for frying and mushy..but good!

Baker, have we welcomed you to ECF?..If so hi again, if not Welcome! (they are free so you can have as many as you like)

How big is your garden..can you use the water you wash dishes with on the tomatos? Or at least catch the rinse water? That's what my ex MIL did. She also used the water from the clothes rinse. Maybe next year you can rig a temporary tent for the hottest hours bu using 4 tall sticks and an old sheet.

Hi, thanks for the welcome. My garden is about 15'x15' fenced and irrigated. I have a rain barrel and use the water from washing machine. The soil here is sand even though I use a load of mushroom compost every year it gets dry after a day. Water bill went from 20 to 100 in one month. Never can keep a vegi garden going in the middle of the summer here. So I plant it for spring, fall and winter. I have some yellow pear tomatoes that are really good nice and sweet also some black plum tomatoes they are both still producing so are the eggplant.

All this watering, all the plant food..the sweat and tears...ok no tears! And here's what I have:

My peppers, Cubannelle, problemo (not turned purple yet..still green) and the chilis. The stems get removed and a slice down the middle.

WE put them in a bottle with a drip top so you don't get too much on your food. They are steeped in vinegar and it gets HOT! Pefect for beans and rice or greens. These will last for years..just add more vinegar.

MK those look soooo good. I love the peppers bottled in vinegar; that looks so pretty, too.

I'm a little upset because I've been gone and the woman I pay to take care of my cats over-watered the potted plants. And, I'm about ready to get a shot gun to stalk the %%&(&)$$%#!! rabbit that has mowed down 10 expensive new perennials I splurged on. I actually took my (mostly) indoor cat that stalks things outside (not the avatar, the other one) and dropped him in the garden with my blessing, I was so ......!

Lisa..what about those water globe things. At least then the lady can see when they need watering. What about a tomato cage over the flowers? Wascally wabbit!

MK, I think I know what you mean..... are they glass, with a ball shape on one end and the rest of it is a tube that goes in the soil? I've seen that in catalogs - might be worth trying. I've also seen things with a lot of rubber-like tubing involved, which I don't want to deal with. If I know what you're talking about, the globes are nicer to look at.
