Infuriating forum

This forum is by far the hardest forum to use. It would be very helpful if these pop up messages you get when you're a new member would have a link directing you to the "New Members Forum". I didn't know where that was or if it was just a term meaning something. I suspect most ppl who visit this forum give up after trying to post and never come back.

On flip side, I hate spam.

Slightly better instruction for us noobs would be very helpful.

Just build up some posts and make some connections...thats what I'm trying to do. Its a bit annoying when there are specific topics I would like to contribute to or learn from and I'm unable to post there yet.

Hello and welcome. I have'nt been a new member for quite a while, what kind of pop up messages have you been getting? I don't recall anything like that.

I think before you have reached the minimum post limits, if you try to post in any other place it says ''You need to have xx posts to use this subforum''. Words to that effect anyway. Happened to me when I went to post in general the 1st time. So I went straight to the new members forum and posted there.

@ sophic, just randomly say hello to a few people and answer the hello's people send you and youll have the 15 required to go anywhere and post in short time.

I think I finally have enough posts now to post in most threads, so I can't show you the pop up. I started an account here over a month ago and only now have had the time to read the rules. I know I'm being a bit precious about this, but I come to forums to learn or help not figure out how to use the forum. Anyway, I'm all legit now so it's all good.

Meh, if it becomes too much of a nuisance there are many other forums with the same info. I am a member of a number of extremely large forums and have never had so many hoops to jump through just to post. I understand its for "spam" but there are so many other ways spam can be controlled on forums without all these hurdles that it is insane to think this is the best way to combat it. Like another person said in a thread I was reading " you have to have the patience of a saint to deal with all the restrictions." In my opinion self policing by members is far more effective than making a site so tedious to use that it is easier just to find a more user friendly site.

Server refreshes at 25 after the hour...if you don't stay on line, it will refresh for you at 25 after the hour that you come back on line.

...as you are back on line now and it is 27 after, you can post most places now...some require 15 posts.

Of course this is an option also...no one is forcing you to stay here.
The system is tried and true and there for a very good reason.

I don't feel the need to go anywhere, other than all you have to go though to post there are good people and info here. As I said I was stating my opinion that there were many other ways of controlling spam other than making the forum so difficult to navigate, I never said antispam measures weren't needed. Sorry if it offended you.

I don't remember it being too difficult getting 5 posts or any number of posts to get anywhere. I just welcomed new members, at the time, like myself.

I don't know who did the SEO for this site, but damn they are good. Anything I google even remotely conserning e cigs and this forum is in the top 3 suggestions. The restrictive stuff for noobs is ......ed. I'm sure 4 out of 5 ppl who try to start an account to post on this forum give up before they figure out they need to post 5 times, as if a script couldn't be written to by pass this iron clad proceedure.

I recently joined this forum and i have to say its the best thing ever. I have had anything from a small question and a really really urgent one. Ive gotton such great responses and fast too. Goodluck

5 initial posts isn't a hardship. Say hello, introduce yourself, and answer the replies you will definitely get back, and you're there. ECF is just too great a resource and learning tool to just shrug off for such a reason. I hope you all stay here and become a part of all this. I can guarantee you won't regret it!
