I just don't feel comfortable with something that lends itself chemically when the heat is there, and to vape, it always is...
Thoughts?

Seems my english is not sufficient enough... What do you mean?

Aluminium is supposed to be a lot better for an atomizer than cheap SS that propably contains lead.

Yeah there seems to be a lot of metal fears it seems are rumor based. It's so bad that well respected atty designers are forced to avoid safe metals like aluminium.

I did fill mine up when I first got it with the stock wick. I used it a couple hours and didn't much care for it. It had a weird "straw" (the kind cows eat) taste. So mine had cotton in it the first day. BIG difference in the flavor. Cotton wicks much better than silica, so no need for tilting while vaping.

Interesting... I will likely get one of these, though I'm still waiting for a high quality "lifetime" Vivi Nova style (screw-on head, leak-proof, with no need for an air hole in the top cap) rba that is made out of surgical grade or space age (whatever) material. The VN is popular enough that I would think someone would want to do this and charge a few more dollars for it.

And OP, thanks for the build tutorial. I appreciate being able to read and look at how to do something without having to watch videos. Not that there's anything wrong with video tutorials, but they do not replace a written manual-style presentation for efficient learning IMHO.

Have any of you swapped out a cotton wick for the silica in the original coil when you got your Drunkard? I just don't want to use the silica wick when I get it.

I think only one person in this thread is still using their stock wick. I've used cotton ball and cheesecloth. Both are awesome. Cheesecloth I think is better, but requires a loooong soak in your liquid prior to use.

Seems there are now several atos with this style, especially the X6 that is more available in Europe. Can somebody compare the Drunker to the X6:

No ceramic cup that I can see. Looks more like the vivi novas replaceable head.

It could be a hybrid of the Drunker and the VVN. It has the 4 holes to feed your wick into the tank (preventing your juice from getting grimy from the coil gunk). But the head looks more like a VVN.. no removable cup that I can see.. But it's flipped upside down (I think) in the picture. I can't find a clear picture of where the coil sits.

So, without trying it, I'd say it'll perform more like the drunker (hopefully), but rebuild like a VVN. I don't think there's a large difference between the building of the two, but I love the removable cup in the drunker tank.

If anyone does order it, I'd be happy to have them on this thread as well. I hope we see more rebuildable tanks like this moving forward!

The difference between coil setup in a VN and the Drunker is in the drunker the grommets snap under into the base plate rather than into the cup. Ceramic is nice not having to worry about touching the sides like in the VN.

Actually when i was rebuilding yesterday tightening everything down for lower ohms I realized it would suck to lose the ceramic cup. Then realized you could rebuild the thing without the cup if wanted. Rebulding without the cup would be ideal for someone who likes huge/wide coils because you really can't make a coil bigger than the slots (just a thought). I'd like to see what the measurements of a ce2 cup are to see if it may fit in the drunker because they look like the same build.

It would make sense for them to use an existing design to keep costs down. I've got a couple of old ce's tossed back in a box somewhere and I'll compare them when mine gets here.

I can't imagine this thing vaping any better that my gen-1 with ss underneath cheese cloth, or my redux with a cheese cloth main and a batten overwick, but I'm still getting juice run back, especially with the gen-1. I've got a couple of strong mixes that just can't stand much of that at all. Hopefully, the drunker will become my main out and about device.

I don't know about getting a better vape experience with the drunker (as opposed to your others) I don't think the vape experience (for me) is better than with my did clone (properly setup) BUT..I think it is every bit as good as the did clone with it's SS mesh. It seems sturdier, I'm not afraid the top cap is going to come off at any minute. I'm not afraid to put it in my purse and take it to work. It's less "fussy" than the did clone. I like that I can use cotton rather than mess with SS mesh. But compared to the vvn? IMO, If definately better than the vvn's that I used and rebuilt.

The clones are 'fussy'. If you go to take off the cap and allow the bottom to turn instead, the center post will turn as well and ruin your coil. Also they leak juice if left on their side. I'm glad I have mine though--the one I have set up with the spin-E method is getting a lot of use, and the other one is enough different to make a nice change every once in a while.

Somehow I missed this post on your vape meet and I've been meaning to ask you how it went. Did you see/try anything new? Sounds like your drunker was the hit of the show.

It went well! It was nice to see such a big group of vapers out and about. I think there were 50 of us! I tried all kinds of things, some atty that used mesh (oh, so smooth), and a bunch of other atties and tanks. I accidentally tried a 24mg juice (I vape 2mg) and coughed my head off. That was scary! But we had a good time! Met 2 folks that work at my company, and one person even asked me to make a DIY mix for them. I had a blast!
