A good article on how our government and corporations work. It's not just drug companies and the FDA but in general the agencies that are supposed to protect us are usually taken over by the businesses they are supposed to regulate. Even if our government does pass a good law corporate America is out there buying exemptions and changes for the benefit their profit margins before the ink is dry.

The only thing that bothers me about this article is that the author is shilling his own book about "lifesaving suppliments." It behooves him to scare people away from "FDA-approved, Big Pharma drugs."

That's not to say some or most of what he says isn't true, but the example of his use of the aspartame myth makes me pause.

It is disappointing that even this "expose" is not immune from the evils of junk science giving way to to the appearance of extremism.

I've been thinking about that a lot recently because the deeper you look into the web of corruption, you start to find yourself having a lot in common with people who have been successfully demonized. For example, in the documentary "Protocols of Zion" the filmmaker looks at the "conspiracy theories" eventually leading to anti-semitism. Like the Nazi's of Hitler's era, the alleged corporate/power brokers (Bilderberg group, Illuminati, shadow governments) are portrayed as "Zionists" or Jews, and the real problem (that they are power hungry traitors) is overshadowed by the racist red herring.:?:

True, it's an unreliable site. Much of what the essay says is true, however (true to the name of the site "News With Views") it is written in the most inflammatory and biased way possible.

Like in most industries, most of the people in them are actually trying to accomplish some kind of good greater than sheer profit. Most of the people in the pharmaceutical industry are trying to produce things which improve people's lives and health. Money does corrupt, however, and the tendencies the author relates certainly exist.

Corporations exist to make money for their stockholders. Those stockholders are often funds and the individuals who own them may or may not know or care what a corporation does. All that matters is how much they make.
Politicians need money to run for office. Most of that money comes directly or indirectly from businesses or wealthy individuals who have an interest in legislation. If politicians want that money they have to do something for those people.
I'm not really interested in conspiracy theories, it's just how our system works. Money isn't all there is to it but it does play a major role in what the government does for us or against us.

Who was it that said. Democracy is the worst form of government ever invented. Except for all of the others.
