Hi, all:

As the subject line says, my VVG is functioning intermittently. Sometimes I get a hit, sometimes I don't. Mostly, I don't.

I have tried 3 sets of batts and 3 different atties.

I was using an ERA rba (w/o-ring) when the problem began. The problem seemed to go away when I shifted to a Cisco 2.5 bridgeless atty, but the atty only lasted 3 days. Put on another of the same atty. Lasted 3 days. Put on a 2.5 purchased from Rob. Got two hits and then nothing.

I've tried varying the wattage on each atty to little effect.

Does this sound like a problem that requires my VVG to be sent back to Rob, or is there something I can do to troubleshoot at home? I have a multi-meter but don't really know how to use it.

Thanks!

Does it have the small firing button or the new "big" button ??

Connector issues are usually all or nothing IMO, or working then short, working then short.
Rob had some issues with the small button on the early ones thats why he switched.
Mine is currently in route to him for installation of the big button. I didn't have any issues but better safe than sorry.

No matter what it is if you can't figure it out its time for a trip to ME ..... but your all ready knew that huh :(

Good luck.

You said the problem went away when you switched to a 2.5 ohm atomizer . It sounds to me like your pushing the chip past 15 watts and the chip is cutting out . I don't no what ohm you have your era set at but if its to low this will happen .

It's happened on atties between 2.0-3.0 ohms. What ohm should I be using? What can I do to get the chip to come back on? Right now, the atty in it is one I got from you (2.0, I think?) & the VVG isn't working at all.

When it first started, I thought the problem was my coil set-up in the ERA because the VVG would stop firing until I turned the ERA a tiny bit. Then it would work again for a while. Then the spot in which the atty would work got progressively tinier. Then I said screw it & dug out my Mini!

Thanks!

Sorry you are having the firing issue. Ain't it great to have a back-up REO!!!:toast: So far I haven't had the firing issue with my small button VVGs, knock on wood, but I haven't been using the Purple Sparkle as much as the other two and I usually have a 3.7 REO going at same time so maybe mine haven't had as many use hours as a lot of the others. (I like to keep my VVs away from sinks, pool, and spa as we have the "swimming REO" curse here. 3.7 REOs go with me for most kitchen, bathroom, and outside work.) I might add that if I ever have to replace the tiny buttons on VVGs I'm going to really miss them.

{edit} I'll also add that I'm really particular to keep my firing fingers clean when using VVG w tiny button. And I don't use them when doing dirty/dusty/wet work. (most of the work around my place) Silver VVG did jump into cool, dirty, greasy dish water a few weeks ago. She made a full recovery without going to hospital.

My intention when I bought the VVG was to keep it as a 'house PV' and use my Minis for anything out of the house. That lasted about... mmm, never. I like it too much to leave it home. I need to get a back-up VVG.

Listen to these words of wisdom people! :)

DH and I landed ourselves away from home for a few hours yesterday without functioning batteries!!!!! Both of us. I took a set of extra 18350 for my VVG but when I replaced the ones in VVG with spares I didn't get any firing. My first thought, of course, was to put on another carto, didn't help. When I got home put the two cartos on two VVGs with fresh batteries, charged within past 48 hours. Nada!!!! I thought it was really odd that both VVGs, all of a sudden, started having recessed button issues. After switching out three more sets of batteries the last set worked fine in both VVGs (and both cartos were good). So next trouble shooting was to check the batteries (and make notes) starting this morning. I have several sets of batteries, in line, to test. First set to be charged, charger lights green but when I tested them one only charged to 3.9v. I put it back on charger in left bay and it has been charging for an hour now. I'll be making notes on which bays each go into to check out the charger bays. Charger, btw, is just a few months old and this issue only started in past few days. It's an Xtar WP2 II. I have other Xtar chargers including 2 X SP2 (can be used with one 18650 to power small devices via USB port), WP6-II, MP-2, and 2 X MP1S. This is the first time I've ever had a charging issue that involved not charging up all the way.

Will report observations later.

{edit} Single 18350, that didn't charge all the way up, charged as pair, and put back on, only one battery and in left bay, charged up in an hour and came off charger at 4.2v.

I read the earlier post about the not firing issue.
This was the same thing that was happening to me...then I found when I pushed the little button and sort of let it get sideways as I pushed, it fired every time...then it got more finicky- only pushed to one side would it fire- then it quit firing all together. My VVG is now on its way to Rob and hopefully he'll get it Monday and shipped back out to me on Monday too with the larger button. I really miss my VVG!! Btw, I have the Xtar XP2 (first version) and it's awesome! I have also used the USB out to charge my cell phone from an 18650- it really works!! The only problem was that my AC wall-wort quit working last week, so I have it running through an adapter (AC to cig lighter) and using it that way. When I contacted Randy about this, he said he had a few Wall-worts and sent one out promptly- I should get it tomorrow!
