Into & a question about Vivi Nova 2.8 ohm head

Hi all. I'm new to the forum and have been vaping for about 2-1/2 months and digging it. I use a Lava Tube at home, and have an Inferno for carrying around. Smoked 3-1/2 packs/day Marlboro Light 100's and really enjoying the cost savings:) I've diverted some of the savings to DIY supplies to hopefully minimize my expense in the long run.

Don't know if this is the right place to ask this question, but I have Vision Mini Vivi Nova tanks and just installed my first 2.8 ohm head to try it out. The 2.8 head has quite a different wick arrangement than the 1.8 & 2.4 ohm heads and appears to be a single thick wick rather than 4 thinner wicks. I get an awful lot of crackling from the 2.8 head but no crackling at all from the other heads, I'm using the same juice (Virgin Vapor 50/50) so it has to be something about the head. If I cut voltage to 3.3V I get only an occasional crackle, but that seems a rather low voltage for a high resistance head.

I have searched around but haven't been able to find any details on why the wick arrangement is so different for this one particular head. I suspect that it wicks more juice, hence the abundant crackling sounds, but don't really know that for sure or if it's just a defective head. Does anyone know why this head uses a different wick, or can point me to a resource that explains why?

I really don't know why your 2.8 Ohm head has different wicks that your other ones. I feel like most of my clearos/tanks make a crackling gurgling kind of sound when I'm vaping. I wouldn't worry about that. I have a few 2.8 ohm heads for my Vivi Novas. I haven't used them because 2.8 is a little higher than I like.

Either way, is it wicking? No burnt hits? Don't worry about the difference in appearance or the crackling. If it works, just go with it.

Congratulations on quitting the smokes Smogger, and welcome to the ECF.

Crackling is pretty normal to be honest, so long as you aren't getting a burnt taste, and getting vapor, it's working fine and nothing to worry about. I've found that some replacement heads crackle more than others.

I too have gotten those replacement vivi nova heads with one thick wick instead of the 'octopus' wicks. I just unravel them a little bit to separate the strands. They tend to wick a little faster if you do this.

A 2.8ohm coil will probably give you the best vapor around 4.5 - 4.8 volts - of course your experience may be different, but don't be worried about turning it up a little higher to get you a good vape on the higher ohm coils.

Thanks for all the replies. I didn't find crackling that offensive but rather as an indicator that something's different about the 2.8 ohm head. Hissing & spitting are more to my liking and what I've come to expect, but without having to cut down the voltage.

If the wicks are in fact designed to wick faster, and the crackling is the result of an overabundance of 50/50 liquid, could they transport a thick 100% VG liquid like that from Inno Vapor? I have some and been thinking of thinning it down because its clogged all the cartos & heads I've tried it on so far. Anyone have success using it with the 2.8 ohm Vivi Nova wick, or any wick system?

I just had to reply because

My 1st question on here was something like "Should my atomizer pop like this?" lol. Hence the username. I received several answers to the effect of "Those are the best ones to use dude!".

Anyway, I think sizzle is better. Popping is generally water in the wick or some strands breaking or some such. Make sure you wet the wick well and let it soak. I'm using a 3mm silica wick now in a Vivi Nova and it's fine...no NovaPops. ;)

Maybe next time when you put on a new head, put a drop of juice right on top of the coil before you put the silicon cap thing over the center post.

The only trouble I've ever had with my vivi novas (except for the heat this summer making them leak) has been when using a thicker juice like a 100VG. They simply can't wick fast enough. Maybe, just maybe the ones with the many thin wicks might be able to be vapable with lots of twirling and plenty of time between hits, but I don't think any top coil head can cope with 100% VG to give a satisfactory vape performance. Something like an EVOD or other bottom coil device may be better.

AttyPops,
It's plenty wet. It soaked for a couple hours and I've taken my time vaping a full tank on & off, still snap/crackle/pop. I doubt it's water at this point as I don't let condensation build up. I was thinking water may be in the VV 50/50 liquid I was using, but it doesn't crackle with the other heads, and other 50/50 liquids that don't normally crackle do so with this head. These are actually mini explosions, in my mouth I can feel the shock wave exiting the drip tip :)

Aglet,
That's been my experience with the Inno Vapor juice I'd like to use, it's the thickest 100% VG I've seen so far. So I ended up thinning about 3.5ml of it to 42%PG / 58%VG by adding some PG and nic concentrate, 7ml in all. It's still somewhat thicker than the Virgin Vapor 50/50 I've tried with this head, but much thinner than it used to be.

It wicked just fine after thinning, tons of cloud and the flavor seems unaffected by the thinning. But strangely it doesn't snap/crackle/pop nearly as much when used at the same voltages that caused the VV 50/50 liquids to crackle like crazy. The difference is quite noticeable. Don't know what to make of this but I don't like the idea of a head that has such issues with most of my liquids, even if it is just the sound of it. hehe My wise-... wife asked me if I was vaping popcorn :)

I will likely not use the 2.8 ohm heads, I'll toss this one after I use up the 7ml thinned sample but not before I try using some of the unthinned juice just to see what happens. I'm not a fan of excessive twirling or waiting for the right time to take my next hit, IMO the head should serve my style of vaping, not the other way around :) So I won't baby this head and suspect it will clog with the thick juice. No big deal since I'm going to toss it anyhow.
