Greetings
I am a newbie both to this site and the world of vaping. I have smoked since I was 17 years old. (I'm now 54). I have quit seriously 3 times, once for 7 years, once for 3 years and now since August 28 of this year. I was nicotine free for 6 weeks, but I knew I wasn't going to make it.

One of the little known facts about smoking is that although approx. 20% of the population smokes, 50% of depressed people smoke. I have struggled with depression since I was 9 years old - successfully. There is a complex relationship between serotonin, dopamine and nicotine. I just know that I need my nicotine.

I found my first e-cig 12 days ago and feel like it is a literal life saver. I don't think I will ever be one of the hobbyists, but I plan to vape till I die; which hopefully will be decades later than if I had kept smoking.

Hello to all. Hope I haven't been too long winded.

Welcome to the greatest place in the world wide web. I would like to say thank you for sharing your story with us. I completly agree with the connection between smoking and depression. If you have questions, comments, concerns about all this all you have to do is ask. Congrats on finding the e-cig. Most of the time you'll see them refered to as PV's. (personal vaporizer). Like I said Welcome to ECF.

That's really interesting. I didn't know the percentage was so high but that does make sense. As a long time smoker unable to quit, I can relate.

Welcome to the forum!

Cigarettes also contain some other tobacco alkaloids (besides nicotine) that act as MAOIs as well...
Whole Tabacco Alkaloid (WTA) juice

I intuitively knew that, because patches and gum, etc. do not work. After a couple of more posts, I will have the ability to check out your link. Sounds like a very valuable piece of information - and on the same day that I posted.. Pretty amazing site.

I checked out that link and followed it along, educating myself. I don't know that I have ever seen this information presented so articulately, completely and absolutely on point. It clarified a lot of things for me.

Now, I have some musings. Why are so-called smoking cessation experts (doctors) not presenting this information to their patients? A health hazard that is so prevalent and lethal in our society needs an educated approach, something which the people entrusted with our health care appear to be ignorant of. Makes me wonder.

Well, doctors get a kick back selling you on anti-depressant meds, AKA, Wellbutrin, Chantix, etc. Of course these drugs have long lists of warnings.

I would like to see in the future, WARNING! Using vaping devices may cause you to quit smoking, and may become a hobby!
