Investigation of Thirdhand Vapor and Residue from Vaping Indoors

Hello everyone. I'm still pretty new to vaping -- I started about three weeks ago and haven't had a cigarette since May 1st at 06:42. I'm looking for information related to residue left behind from vaping indoors. I am not so much concerned about the cosmetic look of things but information regarding possible health concerns.

I've been doing some searching but thought I'd ask if anyone has good resources that they've found.

Thanks!

I very seriously doubt that the second or third hand aspect of vaping is at all worth considering, except of course for those with a political agenda running who want to dig up some petty issue to focus on, and then they'd have to make stuff up.

It's worth considering to enough people that it's a good idea to have actual facts to counter the propaganda.

PG and VG are the items you Might find.. If you are a heavy vaper... and the amount of toothpaste you used this morning contains more PG than you will likely even find from vapor residues after a long time of vaping... JMO...

I question the validity of third hand smoke being dangerous as it is, let alone third hand vapor. While this isn't scientific evidence at all, I can tell you this OP. My kids have been sick far less this past winter then in any other winter. The big change? My husband and I quit smoking. While I don't think they were having any ill effects from third hand smoke, I do know that when we came in from the outside, just the way the air flows in the house, we'd bring in a good amount of second hand smoke with us. We vape IN THE HOUSE now, and the kids have been much better this year.

To be honest, there was never any proof for the dangers of second-smoke, much less "third hand". In fact, the studies showed there was NO harm done from second hand smoke outside of minor respiratory irritation that was reversible, and did not lead to progressive disease. Unfortunately the 30 YEAR study (which was published in The Lancet the BMJ, I believe) was summarily buried and no one ever heard about it after its publication.

I may still have that link buried somewhere if anyone wanted to see the article. Here it is: http://www.bmj.com/content/326/7398/1057

If second hand SMOKE is really not a serious health hazard then by the same measure second-hand vapor (exhaled, because there is no side-stream vapor) will be magnitudes less serious, and by definition, that would mean not a health hazard at all.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm sorry for the lag -- things have been a little crazy for the last couple of weeks.

I didn't believe the risks I read about were valid but thought I would ask anyway. I'm glad I did as some good information was posted here; I might even purchase one of those study papers just to read it.

I have been having spirited debates with my better half about vaping in the house. I don't vape in front of my son as I don't think it's something he needs to see his father doing. He's caught me with a cigarette in my hand too many times already (he's four). I do vape in my office at night. The argument right now is that she insists she can smell the vapor with me being in the basement -- with no vent openings and all the doors closed -- and with her sleeping on the second floor. When I first started vaping she was standing five feet away and said she couldn't smell it at all until she walked into the cloud. Before our current odor debate the issue was "the formaldehyde" in the vapor, which is hard to believe is harmful in second hand vapor let alone thirdhand residue.

This is one of the "articles" I remember reading about [ Roswell Park Researchers Present Findings of 2 E-Cigarette Studies at SRNT Meeting ](Sorry I can't post links). It's kind of interesting that there is no link to documents for the actual study itself. I would really like to find out what amount they consider to be "significant".

I don't have health concerns with third hand vapor, but e-juice is pretty sticky. I have wondered if it, when around dust and electronics, could lead to worse accumulations of heavy dust in the electronics. I've seriously wondered if vaping next to the computer might be a bad idea incase the vapor is pulled into the air intake and adds to the dust accumulation effect in our electronics (sorry old IT guy, I've come across enough hardware killed by heavy dust that I get paranoid about anything that might add to the issue)

I'd bet that DR Glantz could find fourth and fifth hand smoke if the freebie grants were big enough.
He would find a way to 'prove' that watching someone take a drag off of a cigarette on the movie screen would not only give you cancer, but would ruin your credit rating, kick your dog, and get your daughter pregnant.
