what rta's are you using?.what gauge wire? How many wraps on what size bit? same build for duals?
I mean that's great you got it figured out but it would help us out if you were a bit more complete in your info..thx

That is the problem, we all use various tanks with their own little quirks to overcome. We also have our individual expectations.

My SX mini is running the Dual Coil:
Orchid v4 style tank
Ti200 28ga.
2.5mm wrap 8ea.
Rayon wicks
settled at .101ohm originally .076
26.5J/415F

The D2:
Ti Grade1 26ga.
Single 2.5mm 7/8 wrap
.33ohm
Rayon wick
AFC full open - screw installed
LFC 1-2 turns
27.5J/425F

These settings are in accordance with expected Taste from E-liquids used and relate to my Kanthal builds using the same flavors.

I believe using Known targets in Taste aids in finding correct tuning.
Even 2 devices side by side with same Tank/Flavor would be an excellent reference.

I wish the Manufacturers would do a better job of explaining what to do and expect from TC. Leaving it up to the masses is a missed opportunity as many do not have the understanding and quickly get frustrated.

Once you find the sweet spot, you can nail the power button and hole the vape until you are out of lung or hit the timer and it just works!
No change in flavor and no mad shifts in temperature like a VV/VW rig.

Not that I'm knocking my vw devices, I still enjoy them:D

I think I'll stick to Nichrome or Kanthel for my builds...Like I stated earlier, I think TC is overrated and used as a sales gimmick on mods/tanks/coils etc...
Hell, none of my vaping buddies use TC, nor do the guys at my local vape shop/lounge...All I see are kick ... RDA's, and a few reg subtanks using stock Kanthel coils.....the ladies mostly...
Besides all this I'm not into things that are so technical that I get a headache when they don't perform worthy enough for my added effort and expense...I'll leave TC to you experts ...it's just not my thing right now...

I looked at steam engine and liked the 26g stats for n80. That will be what I will be buying j think. Looks like great ramp up time but the low resistance comparable to 24g kanthal I have now. But the heat capacity is way less which means it's should ramp up and cool off faster. What does heat flux mean btw? Sorry to derail it again. If someone can explain quick or give me a link I would appreciate it.
Click "How it works" at bottom of the page at Steam Engine's Coil Wrapping section.

I'll be honest I'm not seeing how it's that much more expensive. Especially with this mod. To be fair I have been vaping kanthal the last week or so. I was just like ok 75 watt mod. Upgrade for me. It was between this and the sigelei but I like the form factor of the d2 better. We could've gotten screwed for preordering but we lucked out. This mod is amazing at everything it does

I love my black Velocity clone on my IPV3 Li so much that I ordered another (Vape NW) for my D2.
I'll be pushing a single R25 pretty hard with the Velocity.
I should get some VTC4s for 30A or what?

ecigcharleston has the IPV V2 mini for $22 inc. shipping so hey, why not.
Anyone have a V2 in their mod corral?

Thanks

I was talking about TC expense in general..
I mean we first have to buy a mod that has TC then buy either a tank that uses those expensive nickel coils or an RTA or an RDA that uses special wire..
For me it means I have to order that nickel or Ti wire online with the added expense of shipping because my local shop dosent stock nothing but Nichrome and Kanthel.. They told me noboby wants nickel or Ti so they don't stock it ..makes sense to me, lol

Just keep in mind we're sort of in the Golden Age of Regulated Kanthal right now. People have had years to figure things out, from coil building to wicking to atomizer design.

TC has only been on the market for less than a year, and only really been mass-market for a few months. But it's improving rapidly, both on hardware side, and user knowledge base. Alas, atomizer design hasn't really caught up yet, and that's especially true for clearomizers. There really isn't any TC specific clearos out there, and a small handful of RDAs/RTAs that were designed with Ni200 builds in mind (Velocity, etc).

Good news is, if you're a Kanthal/NiChrome guy, all this TC stuff still helps you, since the hardware required for TC makes for a better, more accurate variable wattage device. And the mods are cheap now.

Finally, don't confuse what you see in your local shop with the rest of the world. Why? Because most of the vaping world these days does NOT hang out at vape shops, any more than most car owners hang out at garages, or refrigerator owners hang out at appliance stores.

TC is here to stay. Last year, those same guys at your vape shop were probably using mech mods and drippers, while scoffing at regulated devices and tanks, and outright snickering at MVPs and iSticks. Betcha many of them are now sporting high power regulated mods.

And what does your local shop charge for Kanthal? If they're like most, they charge some ludicrous amount per foot. A 100 foot spool of Kanthal is around $6 shipped. 100 foot of Ni200 is around $7 shipped. Titanium is about twice that, but dropping.

Almost any decent RTA or RDA can be made to work with Ni200, and it's even easier with titanium, so there's really no special expense there in the rebuildable department. It is more expensive for pre-built Ni200 or titanium coils, but not by a huge margin.

If you think the information we are offering is to difficult and for expert, Keep your head out of the SXM thread. It will EXPLODE. I was only trying to offer simple setup advice.
I highly doubt you just drop coils into your RDA's and they work. You took the time and learned what works for you................unless you have a shop set you up.

Hey guys Im having a problem with my IPV D2. I use kanthal in power mode and my resistance keeps jumping up and down making my mod fire super inconsistent. Im positive its not my kayfun thats having the problem because i tried it a other mods without any problems. Anyone experiencing the same problem?

Still could be your center pin contact
Verify with another Tank/topper

I have a couple of tanks that get flaky now and then.(adjustable 510's)

Had my D2 in my truck with the sleeve on it...but when I picked it up that sleeve slipped so it wouldn't fire...slipped down far enough I couldn't find the fire button... Sorta frustrating while I'm trying to drive. Anyway to make a long story short I took that sleeve off... it's going to stay off too..
Its been hot here in southern California and maybe leaving the mod in my hot truck while I shopped at Walmart caused the silicon to expand, don't know for sure..

Very odd. I have been in Aruba for a few days. No issues with the sleeve... Actually has helped me grip it better when sweaty.

Do you charge it in the mod or take the sleeve off for a batt swap...I've been taking it off and maybe it got stretched out some...

Charged it in the mod. Haven't taken the sleeve off yet

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
Then my sleeve got stretched out I reckon...BTW, I tried in-mod charging when I first got it but it started to feel hot to to the touch... Didn't like that so that's when I went for a batt swap instead...anyway, thx for replies
