I hope it's not. I'm one of the multiple people rocking the W0285 serial, and something tells me that isn't a good thing.
I was informed by eciggity that P4U did not do unique #'s but instead did batch/vendor #'s so that they can track warranty issues and who is under selling their product.

Thank you for confirming that. This just get odder and odder.

Ok just so where all on the same page
Lets see if we can get a larger test base...

Charging: Not working at all
Descriptions: Lights green for 5-10 seconds

Batch/Vendor #'s ( W0531 )
==============
Can be found stamped above the batteries
-Or what we think is the serial number

Firmware Version ( YH SX330V3.2 )
==============
This can be found holding down the power button right after putting the batteries in and will read out on the screen

In other words to know which venders to ignore when everybody starts complaining.

I'm in the process of scrounging up parts for when my DNA40 board shows up, think I'm going to run a parallel 18650 setup in one of VapeDroid's B2-D1 Mk.2 box's
B2-D1 Mk.2 US Version by VapeDroid on Shapeways, and just sale the IPV3

I just missed the co-op on the dna 40 chips set. I was hoping to get in it and see about building a dna 40 unit. Maybe round two.

Got my unit in today, and stopped by Radio Shack and picked up the Enercell Charger recommended from a few different online sites.

Enercell 9VDC/1500mA International AC Adapter : International AC Adapters | RadioShack.com

It uses the "H" adapter per the sites so I grabbed on of those also. The guy at Radio Shack said most of the 9v chargers require the adapter to be in the "+" position, meaning the center post is the pos connection. He said to check the manual and if the lights don't "do what they are supposed to" to reverse the H plug's polarity. He said if you plug it in the wrong way you can damage the board... I'm by no means an electrical guy, but everything he said makes common sense look good..

So far I've run it for about 3 hours, and I plugged it in with the cords aligned as recommended by Radio Shack and I get a red light. The manual states should have a red light while charging, and that it will go out when the unit is done charging... We'll see but so far so good.

I'll report back if it was a successful charge. As for knowing if this is safe, after reading through this thread I'm hesitant to utilize this functionality moving forward. Maybe screwing around with screws is just the way to go for the long haul...

Thanks for everyone's input on this thread, it's been very helpful.

I'm no electrical engineer, but is there a way of testing if this device has a balanced charging circuit without having to open up the unit and void my warranty?
For example, if I take my voltage meter and measure one of the cells while the unit is charging, will it read 8.4v being supplied to the cell if it's unbalanced, 4.2 for balanced?
There is a video online of a guy who uses the internal charger for his device, apparently his led stays red even after it's done charging, he has to pull the batteries out to reset it. Vaping the IPV3 at 150 Watts - YouTube
He doesn't give a description on his charger specs though

@EagleHawk

Actually could you confirm for me what firmware version you IPV3 is running.

tfraley: I'm running version SX330V3.2 - Lot #L0485 - that's the number on the inside panel so I assume lot #? And yes, sorry you were the OP on the Enercell charger, sorry I missed that in my hasty reading.

So I ran it down until the battery indicator showed about 1/3 battery life used, and I plugged it in. Left it charging for about 2 hours, checked on it and the light was out and the battery bar on the screen indicated full. I've been using for about 2 more hours now, and I'm showing about 1/5 of bar empty. So I think as of now it's working as intended; we'll see if that continues as I plan on continuing to see if this works out. Time will tell....

Lol, You guys had me double checking my Batch number seems no one has a W yet lol..
I picked mine up from a local shop I trust.. Caught the Vapors - Burbank Vape Shop their in Burbank Califonia

That being said I believe I was amongst the first people to have it in hand.

It really seems odd how many people are running the same version number yet having different problems.

Black WO285 -- the firmware on mine is the same as everyone else's -- and as an aside this would only change if they actually programmed it to change... although my light is green where others are reporting red -- likely they just had them alternating / staggered in the pick and place machine and since there is only one light on this version of the charging board its up to chance which color you got.

Mine is working well at this point, i have a working adjustable psu set at 9VDC (which puts out 13VDC under no load and 8 under load) but even if a better 12VDC charger works I think I will still be removing them to charge since there is no balancing possible as things are now. In order to balance charge we need a new charger board and an additional wire going over to the intersection of the batteries.

Good luck folks :) be safe!
