I'm a network administrator for a living, and also a video gamer. Product delays are the norm in my world.
Intel is a year late on delivering their Skylake architecture. I just got GTV V on the PC after more than 6 months in delays. Waiting for Nvidia to release their Pascal chipset next winter which should have been out now. Surely Intel, Nvidia, and Rockstar are professional companies.
It's an electronics product. Delays are not unusual. And I would rather have 4 months of delays and have added features and proper testing than be one of the istick 50W owners who is on their third istick because they keep auto-firing.
I agree, and I too have been waiting for GTAV on PC and don't even get me started on the Heists. And Duke Nukem Forever I preordered 12 years before it came to be (and it was a lie, entirely.) One of my major complaints about this situation is P4Y's previous track record. Rockstar, Nvidia etc are professional companies with decent track records and delays are normal - what's not normal and professional are lies and excuses.
GTAV had trailers and screenshots and what they showed Id get, I got, I still haven't officially seen an IPv4 that wasn't computer rendered or a dummy model and it's supposed to be released in 4 days (and in February.) Also, as I said, according to vendors, less than 2 weeks ago it wasn't even built yet. That's disconcerting as it would make sense to fully test something before you mass produce it - not fully test something after 4,000+ units have been made (but according to them, they had been done and would ship out by the end of Marchv- that would indicate they were mass produced, when they clearly were not. But why lie about it?
Since you're a gamer, here's what their lies, excuses and hiding what the product that was supposed to be released months ago reminds me of: Duke Nukem Forever, Aliens: Colonial Marines and Watchdogs. Delivering a product that looks and works nothing like what was promised. Those devs have now forever tainted their names to consumers. Any time Gearbox, 3D Realms or Ubisoft announces a game now, consumers that were affected by their previous releases will raise some eyebrows.
Again, I'm not mad at all. This was just in response to someone that didn't understand why everyone on the forum was upset about the delay. My only point was, given the company's past by delaying the ipv3 (aka removing features you paid for and not including parts you were promised) I don't blame people for being upset/worried about what this delay could mean - especially considering they can't actually see what they invested in.
My personal guess is this: it's not being tested nor is anything being removed - I bet that they're delaying the IPV4 because of the SX Mini release and they don't want to step on Yihi's sales. My opinion anyway.
