Is all PG created equal?

Hi there,

I've been using Bloog's MaxxFusion cartomizers but they seem to produce different results depending on what juice they're filled with.

The pre-filled cartos are 100% PG, produce tons of vapor, and have a good throat hit.

I tried a VapeRite 100% PG that had the same results.

But a 100% Rockstar Vapor juice I tried recently produces little vapor, still good TH though.

All three seemed to have similar consistencies (thin, almost transparent juice with little coloration), but they don't vape the same.

On a side note, I also tried a Gourmet Vapor juice, 90PG/10VG, that vapes well and provides a good TH, but it's like crude oil and seems to clog the carto pretty fast.

So what should someone look for in a juice other than the PG/VG ratios? Or is there a specific criteria for cartomizers that works best?

Thanks for any help,

All PG is created equal... however, NOT all e-liquid is created equally.

All PG liquids used for e-liquid should be 99.9% pure and classified as food grade (USP).

The problem is everyone mixes e-liquids a bit differently. PG based e-liquids are usually around 50-65% PG, and then it is thinned with a small amount of either purified water (around 10%) and/or alcohol and of course, the liquid nicotine (around 3%) and flavoring is added (around 20%). A higher percentage of flavoring can make for less vapor and a thinner liquid.

Leaford from Bloog said of their prefilled cartomizers:
Our liquid uses a plain PG base, no VG. Some flavors will have a little VG added as a thickener, but nothing like the usual ratios.

Most liquid usually has a small amount of VG (around 10-20%) as part of the mix, unless specifically just PG based. This can make for better viscosity, especially if they are a double or highly flavored liquid (to thicken back up and provide good vapor).

In a carto, that thinness (or lack of) in liquid can make or break your vapor. Too thick and it doesn't wick well so won't provide much vapor, and it can collect and burn at the coil rather than vaporize. Too thin and it's flooding or leaking out the air draw holes and if there is too much flavoring, water or alcohol, it may not produce much vapor. If you are dissatisfied with a bottle when you get it, contact the vendor immediately. They won't address flavoring issues (taste is subjective) but most will listen and try to correct liquid that is too thick or too thin.

If you need to correct liquid yourself you can try a few things. If liquid is too thin, try adding either more PG to thicken up your liquid a bit or (if you can use it without any issues), just a few drops of VG to thicken and add great vapor.

To thin, add purified water, PGA or a high proof vodka (either of these two can help with throat hit).

When you adjust a bottle of liquid, it's best to experiment with a small amount to start with (say a 5ml bottle of your liquid) and just a few drops to thicken or thin and then test it out.

When you have a liquid that vapes perfectly, check it against the one that is too thin or thick by putting a single drop of each liquid on a mirror and tilt it. You can adjust the badly vaping liquid thicker or thinner, comparing until both run down the mirror at the same speed.

Happy Vaping!
