Yes you're a minority. I know one other who wasn't smoking before, he used to smoke the hookah (shisha) but since it's quite big, he couldn't bring it with him everywhere, so he started vaping. Hookah is still bad for the lungs so he's happy to have made the switch.

You're a minority but don't worry, you're most than welcome on ECF :)

Ya I have smoke a cigarette or two in my time as well as pipe tobacco and cigars but I am always so worried about health issues and I can't stand the smell that is left on me that I never wanted to keep at it. I just enjoy it while sitting on the computer or drinking and don't want to put my health in jeopardy over it.

I know a guy and his mom that didn't smoke but vape because they say the nicotine helps their bronchial tubes somehow because they suffer from asthma or something or other. I'm not sure. They swear that vaping at 6 mgs. nic has made them able to no longer require using their inhalers. Nic apparently does work good in some ways. I'm not sure on all the specifics though so don't quote me on it. But they do love vaping at 6 mgs. nic. :)

That's an interesting question. I smoked the analogs for 20 years or so but haven't touched one since I got started vaping (only 2 days now, but I'm hopeful). My teenage daughter was always, with good reason, critical of my tobacco habit and swore that she would never touch it (good for her) but she has seen me vaping and enjoyed the second hand pleasant smell and expressed interest in trying it for herself. I'm torn here. I don't want vaping to be a gateway into nastiness for her, but I also understand curiosity and, if she does ever feel compelled to smoke, I'm much rather her enjoy a 0 nic vape mix instead of getting herself a nasty tobacco habit like I've struggled with for so many years.

That is a really nice sentiment :)

although do you think vaping might lead her to take up smoking? if not go for it!

Well, I just don't know. For the record, she is 14 and I won't let her vape or smoke or anything until she is 18 and, at that point, she can make her own decisions.

I know that smoking was my gateway into vaping and maybe that can go both ways. If she gets older and gets in with the wrong crowd and already knows and is comfortable with the mechanics of vaping then it might make her less uncomfortable with tobacco smoking. Or not. I just don't know. I'll need to sleep on that one a few years. In the mean time, she can continue to enjoy the second hand aromas and no longer have to complain of me smelling like cigarettes!

Call me old-fashioned but if you have never smoked, don't start vaping. It's not a proven safe alternative to smoking, it's not big, it's not clever and it's not what all the cool kids are doing.

We still don't know about the long term effects of inhaling PG/VG or nicotine - to me, it's not a lifestyle choice and shouldn't be considered as such.

I may be in the minority and I am willing to accept flames for my point of view, but I would highly recommend no-one starts inhaling anything in to their lungs on a whim*

* Obviously I recommend you inhale air into your lungs on a whim. Just breathe...

I think much the same, it's just playing with fire. The last thing vaping needs is to be seen as a gateway to tobacco use. Especially with young people. I got it, there's nic in broccoli and being forced to eat it as a kid probably never led to junior lighting up a menthol. But, you never know. Did candy cigarettes lead to smoking?, I bet they had some influence. I just don't think it's a good idea. Vaping's greatest hope is "threat reduction". To advocate it's usage for something else will just give the banners more ammunition. In the end, as adults you are free to make your own decisions, I just wouldn't invite a potential habit.

I have not started vaping yet but am very interested after playing with a friend's ecig and was wondering if I was a minority here because I am not a smoker and have never smoked.

honestly....not recomended for this...

vaping is much more better than smoking
totally no vaping & smoking is much much more better than both

Well I have not planned to do it habitually but I would rather do vaping then the alternative. I don't see vaping as a gateway to smoking because I would not smoke for many reasons. I also don't want to smoke much if any juice that has nicotine. I understand that there are still no long term studies of vaping so I plan on keeping vaping to a part time hobby at best. The main reason I started looking into vaping was because I was interested in pipe smoking but did not want to start because of health issues. So this was a safer alternative.

Not doing it habitually, or only doing it socially is probably how most of us started smoking. It's only a safer alternative if it's replacing something hazardous. If you don't smoke, then a "safer" alternative would be not doing anything at all. I got that it's interesting, skydiving is interesting, I'm doing the safer alternative right now.......laying on my bed watching other people do it on tv. (I actually am, didn't have to think that piece of random up). A lot of the reasons you wouldn't smoke are probably pretty valid as to why you shouldn't vape. Nobody has yet to say Vaping is safe, less dangerous is still dangerous. If your going to vape, then vape, but don't delude yourself. Is vaping a safer alternative to what your currently doing now?

Not pointing at you OP but there has been a lot of posts about non ex-tobacco users vaping. It's starting to make me a little parinoid. It's so hard to sleep with the tinfoil hat on, it makes crinkley noises every time I roll over.
