I've given this topic some more thought and drew a few potential conclusions. IF vaping is going to be a regulated vice like most all other ones AND it's determined by the powers at be that it's simply not comparable to smoking tobacco then it's all about the nic. It's fairly well known if you take out the tobacco stigma from nic delivery that the chemical itself is quite benign. Addictive yes but not very destructive by itself.

Nic is currently widely available through multiple delivery methods. Yea, patches/gum/lozenges etc are called "cessation" products but they are also a long term lifestyle for plenty of folks. Just google long term nicotine gum and read all kinds of interesting stories of people chewing it for a decade or more. I laugh at the fat head stories from building jaw muscles. I know one myself. We all call him bulldog now.

Flavored smokes were outlawed deter kids but why isn't flavored alcohol illegal then too? lol. Alcoholic beverages are just a delivery device for the drug. I don't see nic delivery any different but it's also pretty clear that cigs are far more damaging for most than alcohol. Yea, alcohol kills plenty of folks too but as a population the #'s are way different than smokers. Hard to say if the crooked powers to be draw similar distinctions though because nic and smoke are lumped together. We need that separation as the industry and legislation evolve.

I would have to think BT will try hard to make that distinction as they evolve from BT to Big Nic over the coming years. They will push back any legislation that tries to ban flavored juice and they have plenty of fat wallets to juice legislators. I'm sure a super pac is already being discussed.

If they can't I suppose there is the other side of the coin. What about people who want no flavor or are sensitive to flavors? Can't outlaw unflavored juice can you? I don't think so. DIY may be alive and well for years in this scenario but the cost of nic juice is sure to skyrocket at some point.

I know a few people that have started vaping, even though they were not a smoker. Although, I hope it will not be a gateway for them to start increasing Nic MG, when they never needed it in the first place. I can't blame them though. I use to be a pack a day, but the flavors that vendors come out with, are top notch and I can see why.

Most vendors offer zero nic for those who just enjoy vaping flavors. Vaping is NOT strictly for nic delivery nor are flavor additives for masking nic flavor nor enticing people to use it. Many vape for food substitutes no different than carb and fat-free foods except, so far, there is no carb-free apple pie... if there is, someone PLEASE stand up and wave... and as a diabetic who loves it, I'll just continue vaping it. So what are they going to do? Ban all the ecig-like products that have nothing whatever to do with nic delivery out there used for flavor vaping?

*raises hand* I'm a nonsmoker who vapes, sometimes 0 nic, sometimes 6-18mg levels, depending on my mood and flavor availability. I started for the same reason anybody starts anything potentially unhealthy-- donughts, pina coladas, extreme sports, etc-- it seemed fun. And I enjoy it. I did a lot of reseach and concluded that the risk is probably pretty minimal, even if nicotine is involved (though this is a very individual judgment call). I've noticed no ill effects, aside from an occasional irritating cough, no worse than hay fever.

For myself, I think the ANTZ "gateway drug" theory is just silly. Near as I can tell, vaping is more enjoyable than smoking. The nicotine delivery isn't as efficient, but most people don't start smoking because they want to add nicotine to their lives-- they start smoking because they're curious, it seems cool, and it is fun. The nicotine gets them addicted and keeps them smoking against their better judgment. So the idea that tech-loving kids would start using a snazzy, flavorful electronic gadget and then switch to a cancer causing stick of burning leaves is kind of absurd.

And I'm not going to let the opinions of zealots, of any stripe, control my life. At this point in my life, I have plenty of practice ignoring the ill-informed opinions of a rabidly paranoid minority. I live my life the way that makes the most sense for me, and for the people around me. I don't have the time or energy to worry about what crazy people will think about my decisions.

After a few months of vaping 3ml daily or so, I can definitely say I'm not addicted. In circumstances where I've needed to go days or a week without vaping, it was a complete non-issue. Like reading trashy novels, or drinking a starbucks latte, it's a habit I enjoy, but can take or leave.

So do what seems best for you, in your life. That's the only standard that makes any sense, really.
