Is it me or is the USPS getting worse?

It is getting worse. A few weeks ago i sent a package out express mail (guaranteed overnight delivery). Guess what four days after the delivery date i have to go to the post office to pick up the package, cause the mail man was too lazy to carry the package to the door. The only good thing was i got the money back so free shipping for me but lost revenue for USPS.

Bad as it is to wait for a couple of weeks for delivery, how many of you remember when average delivery time was four to six weeks? As a kid if I ordered something from Johnson Smith if it had ever shown up in just two weeks (it never did) I'd have done the eagle rock up and down the street in joy and amazement... said the man whos all stressing over his new android tablet taking three days to deliver. ;)

USPS is REALLY getting on my nerves!!! 2 packages recently taking 10+ days!! When it should have been 3-4 days first class  I can't take it any longer. I am looking into fedex....

Another note, was told on first package that I should have shipped priority if I didn't want it to take so long....but I can see from posts here that even shipping priority isn't working...

I'm a big fan of the USPS. Any organization that can move my package from Cali to Mass in a few days for a few bucks is alright in my book. I haven't noticed any major lag in shipping. Maybe an additional day over what I was seeing a couple of months ago, but nothing drastic.

What has fallen off, IMO, is the online tracking. I used to be able to monitor a package all the way through the process. Now it just says "Passed through San Diego (or wherever) facility" for like 3 days, and then randomly shows up in my mailbox.

You've been lucky so far jerkwater. I used to feel the same. USPS had the best price when shipping stuff first class, and things moved fairly quickly....but with 2 packages taking over 10 days...I feel like I am shipping to Canada for gosh sakes....its just ridiculous. And now I find out even if I get priority or overnight, they still won't move my package. Just great.

There are two types of tracking. One is TRACKING, and the other is DELIVERY CONFORMATION. You might be getting confused by this. Tracking is more expensive, and provides more details, and Delivery Conformation provides that the package was shipped, processed at your sorting facility, and out for delivery. There's a huge gap between the first two notices.

Just checked my tracking and saw the following, so USPS is on the ball for this delivery:
Detailed Results:

Bullet Sorting Complete, November 03, 2011, 8:54 am, MEDWAY, MA 02053
Bullet Arrival at Post Office, November 03, 2011, 8:28 am, MEDWAY, MA 02053
Bullet Dispatched from USPS Sort Facility, November 03, 2011, BROCKTON, MA 02301
Bullet Processed through USPS Sort Facility, November 03, 2011, 12:28 am, BROCKTON, MA 02301
Bullet Electronic Shipping Info Received, November 01, 2011
Bullet Shipment Accepted, November 01, 2011, 4:34 pm, CUSTER, WA 98240

EDIT: I should point out that this product was ordered on 11/1 (Tuesday) from Washington state, and is now out for local delivery in my town in Mass on 11/3 (Thursday) -- it will be in my mailbox when I get home. And this shipment contains DIY bases (about 300 ML), so it's neither flat nor particularly lightweight (though not exactly heavy either). That's a 3/4lb, irregularly shaped package across the continent in 2 days for 3 bucks. Way to go USPS! And ecigexpress.com!!

Jerkwater, that's what you get with "Delivery Conformation". Look at the top of the page for "Service". It probably says something like this.

Service(s): Delivery Confirmation™

Yep, that's what I've got, which is usually adequate for me (as in this case). I can't really imagine wanting more detail than this. As I said before, I'm a big proponent of the USPS -- I think they generally do a great, cost-effective job.

I'm a mailman and I can tell you that your package most likely didnt sit in the same place for 4 days. It probabably stoped in a few places along the way and just was'nt scanned or the information just didn't download properly from the scanner. There not always scanned at every stop and won't update till a new scan is put in the system. It might of gone to cali. and back but they don't let things just sit there. As far as speed its just as bad as fed ex or ups. usps parcels fly on the same plane as fed ex or ups as the post office leases space on there planes to minimize usps fleet. There all about the same excpt usps has the worst online tracking. It has gotten better but still sucks.

Good to know. I agree. The tracking is pretty bad. Although I have seen some delays lately, it has not been that bad. My last order came from NY and USPS had an expected delivery date of 10/27. Tracking had it stuck in Brooklyn all week. Alas, it showed up only one day later than I was anticipating.

I am sure USPS will have its ups and downs. And so far, I have been fairly lucky. Plus, you can't beat the pricing. That being said, I am sure there are some hubs that are worse than others. I work for a company with multiple warehouses and I dread when I see something shipped out of certain locations. I know I will have some explaining to my my customer why something has not arrived in a timely manner.

With Tracking, every day since it's been shipped, it gets updated. You know every night how far along it is on the trip, and can tell approximately when it's going to be at your door. Lots of people like this. With Delivery Conformation, once it's picked up at the shipping location, you just wait until it pops up at your sorting facility. People get antsy about that.

Definitely getting worse, my local USPS office has no supervisor and everytime I go in there I can hear the phone ringing constantly but no one to pick it up. One time I went in there and said "someone going to pick up the phone?" and the guy just gave me a shrug. I've also had packages that went in a long circle for days. You should also see some of the offices, they haven't been renovated for a very very long time, and they look like some old fisherman's warehouse.

I'm in NJ at the moment and I always buy from nhaler. They are also in NJ, about 45 minutes away, and every time I order from them my stuff comes the next day - except an order about 2 weeks ago which took 5 DAYS! I would have driven down there and picked the stuff up myself if I'd known that was going to happen. Lame.

6CA7.... Vaccuum tube/Power Pentode... Am I right? Ordered stuff from LitecigUSA, and from Bloog 2 days later. The Bloog stuff arrived the next day. The LiteCig stuff is still in transit... The Willow Grove Sorting Center is the suck...

Con. Darrel Issa and the republicans are trying to hamstring the post office to the benefit of billionare buddys. Also, the post office is a quasi government agency polls show people are more than happy with. Proof that government works, they don't like this. They tell people government doesn't work then go about seeing that it doesn't FEMA in the Bush era is another example of this

Funny you say that about the phone.... I actually called mine on a Saturday to check on a package & they answered the phone & my questions but before we hung up the lady that answered asked me this. Sir if you don't mind how did you get this #. I said well I did a few google searches till I found a local # why? Her reply was that all the local # were supposed to be unlisted & directed to a main line. I thought that was kinda funny.
