A friend at work just gives me this battery.

--Image in next post down for 15 post limit--

Says that is came out of an .mp3 player.

The numbers on it are AE392339P
+3.7V 340mAh

All I have is the batt that he said was good. There appears to be some kind of pcb on it that I would assume would be the protection for the battery but I am woefully uneducated in stuff like this.

A quick google tells me very little except that it most likely came from some type of RCA .mp3

I would throw that cell pack in the garbage immediately. It looks swollen, it should be flat not puffy, and it looks like its about ready to burst. It was probably overcharged or charged with current that was above it max charge rating.

Be safe, toss it,

That baby is a Li-Poly, nice batt, is good for at least a 4Amp discharge rate.

That one in the picture is dead though, dispose of it securely please.

These can be easily charged with a good Li-Ion/Li-Poly charger (not the chinese ones though) and if used to specs can provide you longer and better than any Li-Ions.
