Is it the juice or the atty, or something else?

I purchased an Ego-C starter kit which did not specify whether the atty was standard or low resistance - so that part is an unknown. It came with high-test labeled tobacco-flavored e-liquid. I also order some separate e-liquid 50/50 in 18/12 & 6 nicotine.

The e-liquid that came with the starter kit was awful...so I quickly moved on to the other ones I bought. The other's were somewhat better in flavor, but the the throat hit is so enormous (no matter what e-liquid I've used) that I can't stand it. This is coming from a 30 year smoker who knows and appreciates that sensation of smoking...but this ecig is way over the top in this regard.

Any feedback, recommendations, what to try next is most appreciated.

Does it taste burnt when you get the nasty throat hit? I ask as I originally had issues with my ego-c getting the atty to wick properly..either I was using too thick a liquid or I was not getting the end cap on the little tanks pierced properly and the flap of material the spike on the atty cut was laying back down over the wick preventing the juice from wicking. The attys should likely be standard rez I imagine...from what I've been reading here, if they put lr attys in with the kit, it could reduce the run time between charges of the device. I checked the remaining two I have left from my kit (unused) and they are both around 2.4 or so on my junky vohm meter...well within the range of the battery on the ego. I generally have no real issues with the little tanks up to around a 50/50 mix but I always keep the thing vertical to make sure the wick stays wet.

Welcome , but do you know that your not supposed to smoke it like a regular cigarette ??? If not , take long slow, easy draws into your mouth , not at all like smoking . Then inhale , and exhale . My friend was trying to hit it like a Marlboro and was literally choking . Just a thought .

I have to agree with this one, when I first got me ego I took a long hard drag on it and choked to no end! The long slow draws are best.

/agree with all of the previous posts, especially regarding wicking. A 50/50 juice is considerably thicker than I would personally use in this type of mod. Granted, I don't own an Ego-C, but I do have both Ego-T's and TGOs, and they have a LOT of trouble wicking thick juices quickly enough to handle chain-vaping. Your excessive throat-hit does dound like a symptom of Dry Atty Disorder. Another thought is that nasty primer liquid. My TGO atties all came with wicks that were already wet, but not with anything that tasted like eliquid. They tasted like...well, they were disgusting. You may find that the scary throat hit/flavor goes away with time. I hope.

No, it doesn't have a burnt taste. It's just the throat hit that is overwhelming. It is 10 times worse than the FIRST drag you took of a cigarette.

Welcome:) one thing to bear in mind is that there is a "break in" on the various atty's and other devices, the coils seem to need a certtain amount of use before they stop producing harsh ,wicked burning vapors. In addition, the e juice also has properties created by the mixture, proportion of VG and PG. New components and the e juices can add up to a burning, less than pleasant session. Vaping technique is important, taking air in and allowing the coils to do the major work very important during break in.:)

The atty's that came with the starter kit are the separate small ones. The cone fits over that, and then the tank fits into the cone. (Dah....you are probably saying)...just saying b/c I don't know what info is important or not. Thanks for your patience.

You coined it like I could not find the words for: "wicked" throat hit is what it is. Are you saying I need to keep at it and that e-cigs need to be broken-in like a good pair of leather shoes? Does one have to have these nasty throat hits every time you change the atty as well?

Many thanks

As I started there was some hard TH involved. In my case it was a combinatin of high pg as well as draging on it like a cigaret. Now I know that high vg is better for me. I prefer little to no th so that might be the reasons in my case.

It can take some time to adjust and find what works best. Get some cartomizers with diff. ohms so you know the difference.
You will also cough alot which is normal as its the same as quitting smoking. If you have trouble adusting and finding what works it is ok to smoke along. Many of us have done so. It took me a few weeks until I knew what was working and then it became easier.
I also tried liquids with tobacco names and most had the strong TH I could not stand. Dont give to much weight on taste as it will change big time as your taste returns. You will be amazed.
I know this is not very helpful but it is more meant to encourage you.;)

The best thing about the ego is you can control the hit. Use your mouth not your lungs to draw it in and try not to totally cup the mouthpiece so you draw in air with the hit. Push before the hit 1/2 second then hold for 1/2 second after the hit. I bought the rubber ends that slip onto the atty, like 2.49 for 10...since the hard ones it comes with tend to leak. It will also leak if you prime it without realizing it with short puffs or allow blowback from tour breath. My first two friends that are Heavy smokers choked like I handed them there first duby when I let them try it and there first response was that they wanted one!. But weak is way worse like my first carto which I spent 3 times as much for and I will never go back to. You'll find the ego is allot more satisfying in the long run once you develops good,"Toking", habits. BTW...pierce your rubber ends with a paper clip when there new and it seals better around the atty. The biggest deal is in the e-juice. Mixing yourself gives you way more options and advantages to the experience. I am ever learning this everytime I mix a new batch. Happy Vaping!!!

I'd start by cleaning the new atty. Boil water and put it in a cup. Add the atty, swish it around and let it sit for 10 minutes. Rince it with cold water, blow the water out of the atty from both ends. Shake it out. Stand it on end on a paper towel.
This should get rid of the gunk they ship the atty in. After drying for a while, put in on the battery and add 3 drops of juice. Wait 30 seconds and pull slow through. You can't draw on an ecig like you can on an analog.
Give it some time and be patient. The gain is worth the pain!
