is the only thing better about the ego over the 510 better battery life?

Let me help you help Zen~.

You prefer dripping to carts and cartos, and big batt life is a plus.

But what about....

Throat hit. Is the ego about right or do you want more or less?

Do you care more about flavor or vapor production?

How important is size to you? Some people really don't care how big their PV is and would vape on something the size of a big-gulp from 7-11 if they liked the way it vaped. Some people care a LOT about size and looks.

Are you ready for variable voltage where you'll be making adjustments to your PV to change the performance as you go, or are you just looking for the next step up?

Since I still have many other facets to explore, such as different strength of vapor, various combinations of PG/VG, it will probably take me some time before I know which way to go. But, the fact that this question is necessary to figure out where to go after an eGo is testament to how appropriate the eGo is for people starting out. In all the pages of this thread, I've yet to see anyone mention a PV they would recommend over the eGo for people starting out.

A need for an upgrade might occur after I step down my nicotine dose, and perhaps I will need a PV that will compensate for any loss of TH that a lower strength juice could bring...although, I must say that already some 18mg VG-only juice is producing lovely TH for me in this eGo, so I'm not even sure that would be necessary.

My question for Zen is, what is a good alternative for the eGo for people starting out? If this PV is to be avoided at all costs, what would be recommended in its place? If there are so many better PV's out there, then it should be fairly easy to list a few that would make better starter kits than the eGo...now, I really am challenging Zen's claims, as in all the posts in this thread against the eGo, I have yet to see one single PV recommended that would be a good alternative. If there is one, I am all ears!

What is the one CAR that is best for the beginning driver?

What is the one set of golf clubs that is best for all new Golfers?

What is the best DEGREE to get in college?

What is the very best CIGAR for somebody just getting started?

Thinking about taking up WINE as a passtime? What's the BEST wine for a beginner?

How about Motorcycles... Bicycles... Pogo Sticks.... Lined Paper for school... ummm... ANYTHING?

I contend there IS no single best car, or golf clubs, or Degree, or Cigar, or Bike or Pogo Stick or Lined paper for school...

There are WAY too many variables and choices out there, some are great, some are awful, some are just OK.

So... this is why you don't se me, or any other of us that don't think the eGo is the best choice suggesting an alternative.

It's kind of idiotic to think that there should even BE one universal choice!

Head on down to the gas stations and you'll see there are HUNDREDS of choices in the world of analog cigarettes...

For somenbody just getting started... which one is the best?

What's more important? Flavor or Throat Hit... maybe a little of both... how about length... do you want to smoke for 5 minutes or 8? Thats the choice of King Size or 100s... Oh... and MENTHOL too...

Go ahead...

Which is the ONE cigarette that will get a guy good and addicted to them, so he can successfully stop being a non smoker?

Can you see how silly this is?

Can you IMAGINE logging onto an analog cig forum and asking... "I'm thinking about starting... what should I smoke?" and the response being Get yourself a pack of eGo 100s and here's a link to the best price...

There's no best eCig for beginners. The only eCig that matters is the one that motivates somebody to quit analogs. I said Motivates... NOT enables. Because for one person, a tiny little super mini is the coolest thing ever... and it's motivation enough to quit. I quit using a pen style... not an eGo. The eGo has been out roughly ONE YEAR... did NOBODY QUIT before the eGo? It's LAUGHABLE to think as such, and it's equally laughable to defend the eGo.

Fine... you guys all win...

The eGo is the very best PV ever made, it's a good solid 3.7V vape that lasts days, even weeks. It costs virtually nothing and it's more satisfylng that a roll in the hay with Elliot Spitzers .........

ALL people that smoke or not should own one, use one, and pray to it on Sundays because IT... and ONLY IT, is capable of helping a 3PAD smoker to quit.

You are ALL right...
I am in awe of your wisdom
and I herbey stand corrected...

Now... who in their right mind is willing to trade their eGo for my pitiful ProVari and my Buzz?

Any takers?

I'll step up;
My suggestion would be the ProVape-1. Protection and features are built in. It's not just a tube with a switch. I'm not going to list everything here, there are just too many features (with a lifetime guarantee!). Click the link.
ProVape-1 Electronic Cigarette. Buy one today!
I currently use a ProVari, but as a basic easy to use starter PV, the ProVape-1 is an awesome unit. And yes, I've used it.
Since I'm completely happy with my ProVari I'll recommend this unit for those looking into Variable Voltage. Don't let something like this intimidate you. If you can operate a microwave this is a cakewalk.

I have to stick this edit in;
ProVape-1...for a unit that's not too intimidating.
Personally, I have a love for box mods. I build them. Some people just aren't fans of how they look, though. They're simple, cheap, true 3.7v or 5v and just work.

You're wrong... people are too stupid to change batteries and charge them with a TR001 charger.

Get an eGo. It's ALSO 3.7v... it's ALSO got protection, it's ALSO idiot proof... and you never need to change batteries!

Plus... with the eGo... you get 2!... that ProVape you only get 1... 2 is better than 1... everybody knows that.

I used to be a 3PAD smoker... I NEED an eGo with two batteries, or it's back to analogs for me.

You wouldn't want THAT hanging on your head, now would you?

You're a stupid doody head.

Zen, all of the analogies you mentioned do have valid answers. I do understand where you're coming from - I build computers, so I see a good comparison is "what is a good starting computer for a beginner?". Knowing absolutely nothing about the end user, I can provide some options with conditions:

- Do you travel a lot? Do you need portability? Get a laptop. Try ASUS or Lenovo.
- Are you into graphic design? You will probably not be happy until you have an iMac.
- Are you a gamer? Then get an Alienware.

See what I mean? Of course, there isn't just one, but it should be easy enough to come up with some kind of guideline.

I am still awaiting a recommendation!

Sorry, if I was in a situation where I was going to suggest a PV for a beginner looking into starting, I would find out if they wished to emulate an alanog... if the answer is yes, I would suggest any of the smaller pvs with a PCC and the use of 2 ohm Electronicstix Cartomizers. They all perfor well enough for that purpose when coupled with the cartos and the PCC adequately addresses battery life.

If they are aware of battery issues beyond that, I would suggest going to the next logical step which is the ProVape, same cartos, and batteries and a charger.

The eGo would be mentioned in the conversation if for no other reason than to explain that it exists, and while it has longer battery life, the ProVape would be a better choice.

Once the Infinity is on the market, I'll be suggesting that instead of the ProVape for those looking for more boom.

I would additionally find out in the process to see if they already had purchased something that they feel is underperforming, and I would attempt to show them how to get better performance fromwhat they already own. I am 100% confident that virtually every non-disposible PV made can be adjusted into working order with the right combination of changes. There's no sense in telling them they wasted money because I can make ANYTHING vape well given the opportunity.

Thanks, Zen, the ProVape looks awesome! Definitely a little pricey, but, as you mentioned, the return on investment is there in the long run...I'll definitely look at that, and keep my eyes open for the Inifinity when I'm ready to upgrade!

It only looks pricey compared to what you have come to understand about the chinese PVs... Do you KNOW how many "beginners" spend over 150 on their first eCig? They end up with a mall Kiosk 4081 or 808 clone. For less money they could have a ProVape.

The ProVape is not expensive compared to mall eCigs. It's not as expensive as some gas station ecigs or smoke shop eCigs either.

We know there are 25 dollar 510s to be had. TW sells a mega 510 kit with three batteries for 100 bucks!

Many many many people spend hundreds of dollars chasing a better experience than the gas station cig or the kiosk cig... ending UP at the eGo after reaching out here for help, and with good advice they would have ended up with a much better, higher quality long term investment.

When people tell me they want better than their 4081... I know to make that jump through hoops and vape like a monster. I know how to make the much loathed Blu create satisfying vapor on every hit... this is the education we should be sharing with people, and I have tried to do that, only to be derailed by somebody jumping in, calling the Blu JUNK, and making the eGo suggestion...

WHY did a person buy a Blu? Because they WANTED a tiny eCig. I absolutely CAN make a Blu produce as much vapor as an eGo... Not for long, but I can do it.

I was trapped at BWI airport with ONLY a Blu, one discharged battery, one charged battery and my PCC... I made it through a 7 hour flight delay by using proper battery managment. I simply do not accept that the Blu is destined for the junk pile. And that Blu is STILL in service today, nearly 5 months later, in use by a casual vaper that LOVES IT.

So, step one in making the right recommendation is to open my ears and learn what they have, what level of experience they have, and where they hope to be. I try to help them work with what they have, and move forward. I NEVER tell somebody to start over... I tell them how to use what they have, and to progress.

If the time is right to move up, I show them what real value is. I don't show them a cheap PV that I feel is part way to the goal line, which I believe the eGo is. I show them the Goal Line... real enduring quality, real enduring value and a great, no excuses vaping experience. No fear of LRs accidentally popping the MosFet... no expensive replacement battery units... 4-5 bucks and you're good to go.

If people took the time to think it through, they may come to the same conclusion. If they enjoy status quo, they'll disagree with me.

I've owned a LOT of PVs. I've Built a lot of PVs as well. I've experienced nearly every device on the market except for a hand ful. I can tell you, based on MY experience that vv is going to hit this market like a Tsu Nami in the next 12 months and much of this will sort itself out, but rest assured, the eGo/Riva/Fat Bat class of PV will NEVER be my first suggestion for a beginner, because to me, it makes no sense to stop there.

It's a big 510, which translates to it's no big deal.

OK - hiding my beloved Riva's LOL. So, is the low loaded voltage a result of batt size? or is it somehow reduced but other components?

I've always envisioned building my self a 'box' and in that light experimented with a 1300ma LiPo which charges quite similar to LiIo. Anyway - on a regular 510 atty the drop is only to 3.7V vs the 3 or 3.2 for the Riva. "Hot" enough I seriously doubt a LR atty would last long.

How big can you go on 2+ ohm attys without adding a current limiter?

Cee_Jay you should make the next Rochester meet. We discuss current and upcoming technology as well as share a wealth of experience between our group. It's a lot of fun!

Well, if you don't mind box mods, the Bartleby is a great step up.
It uses 14500 batteries, so it is a true 3.7v device.

It is quite small in size, has an on/off switch, and can be charged with a USB cable even while in use.
So it basically acts as a passthru without needing a passthru.

And all of that for only $50 bucks.
:)

I have to agree with Zen~ to a point. I am one that recommends the eGo to new vapers, to fault. However, most new vapers don't want a mod, and I don't want them to get ripped off with a lousy SE kit.

I usually get the "holy cow, that thing is huge!" comment when I pull a mod out (or even a Leo), and it's only a screwdriver. My boss finally decided to quit smoking. He watched me switch a year ago. I started with a super e-cig and then moved to an SD and have an assortment of mods now. I recommended the eGO to him as his first PV, because of battery life. Shoulda seen the look on his face when I showed him my Precious w/ a tank mod on it today. When I used my super, battery life was the issue. Nothing else. IT lasted me 2 weeks before I started looking for something else, but I woulda spen $40 on smokes in that two weeks, so I justified it in my head. Once I decided this was for me, I started looking at mods. I don't recommend mods for a new vaper usually, however one friend went with the screwdriver after trying mine. That was 10 months ago and he still is using that SD.

I use the eGO type for out and about, cause it is a nice little PV just like Zen~ says. It only makes 3.2vdc and the batteries can be killed w/ a LR atomizer. But with a cartomizer on, it makes a great PV to take to work. Plus I don't get the "what the heck is that?" question when I use it... usually just "oh hey an e-cig, cool". I have looked for a 14500 mod to use in it's place... the little carry about on town PV, but haven't found one yet... so I just bought more Rivas. I do have a Super-T P10... very classy and I like it with a carto on it, so use that in rotation with my eGo types. What I don't like about any 510, is that darn little cartridge!!! But there are ways around that.
