Is there a better atomizer design?

I started a review thread for the rn4081 or super cigarette a few months ago.

All was going fine until a burnt taste about a month into smoking it. I've since gone through 3 atomizers, which aren't expensive, but I'm just wondering if all other ecig atomizers are constructed the same way. The Huge design flaw in these is there is a synthetic fiber that the vaporizing element/wire is wrapped around that is used to keep the e-liquid around the coil. If the fiber gets the slightest bit dry or too hot, it will burn. You may not notice this at first, but eventually it will burn to the point where you can taste/smell it. Now I have tried removing the fiber completely, but as I suspected, it is what is keeping the heating coil from burning up completely, which it did after the first puff, it snapped. So if anyone has taken apart or knows how other atomizers are constructed, ones that have a more permanent method of vaporizing e-liquid, please let me know, as I'd like to buy one and get away from this super cigarette design.

Could you explain more about the above statement. Is this generally accepted as the basic design of the atomizers by the members here? I ask because I've been trying to understand the construction of these ecigs and I haven't heard this before about fibers inserted into the atomizer purposely/by design. I thought up until now that any fibers in or around the atomizer was a bad thing and came from the cartridge fibers.

Here's a quick cross section I drew in ms paint of the atomizer showing where the fiber is.

The heating element is coiled around this fiber, the capillary effect leaches e-liquid onto the fiber via the steel wool via the cartridge and when the coil heats up it's vaporized. If there is no e-liquid, or if the coil gets too hot, the fiber burns, and eventually you will start to taste this. After a while the fiber turns into a little black lump and your atomizer is rendered useless.

There's another thread on this, so yes, other membbers have noticed the fibers too. They're like the wick in a candle.

In this picture that I also posted in the Super Cigarette review thread you can also see, right under the vaporizing coil (F), the black lump and crumbs that the fiber has fused into.

Yes; these are, to loosely quote TB, dumbed down versions of the original patent. But no; I've seen none of the superior designs marketed for sale to the public yet. There is a lonely thread in Tips and Tricks in which a few people are discussing home built construction of atomizers.

Ah, it seems the initial design was for an actual atomizer and not just a coil that vaporizes liquids. So I guess all e-cigs went the cheap and easy route with this coil/fiber design and just chose to pretend it was high tech? Has anyone broken a more expensive brand's "atomizer" down and found any other technology?

This is a Ruyan company wholesale center, nicotine liquid and atomizer is all in one item. One shot use until liquid is gone than get another one and pop it in, no worry if the atomizer burns out. GREAT DESIGN I have got one on the way but any who here is the site :twisted:

Thanks for that link. This looks like a good idea if the cartridges last a long enough time to outweigh the price, which seems to be about 2 bucks a cartridge. I'll be anxious to read how your's works out.

ive seen some bad reviews about longtotemv9 on european forums-but they were old,maybe its been improved,but like the G220,or the new G300(other atomiser/cartridge combi cigs),its gonna be expensive to run though-i believe the atomiser/carts dont last long puff-wise...and the cartridge strengths-far too weak IMO...did you get an extra battery?at least they brought the long totems price down a bit.hope they make more progress with these combi-devices soon,i believe they are working on improving them.be interesting to hear your opinion of it,i hope it works well for you...please post a review when you get it.

I ordered a V9 myself from mini-cig over a week ago. Should be here next week(crossed fingers). Mostly so I can chop through the atomizers and experiment once they are used.

I don't expect it to be as good as my Crown7 e-cigar in terms of vapor and longevity, but I wanted to give them a try anyway. The "step up" would probably be a Janty Kissbox. The US site goes live next month, and I'd rather get it from a national vendor, even if it means waiting.

They sell atomizers seperatly don't they? Think I've seen such on their sites.

With the failure rate of these cheap atomizers perhaps sellers will start bundling atomizers with cartridges, maybe 4 or 5 atomizers in every 50 cartridge pack.
