Is this a PG Allergy Reaction?

Hi All,

I was so excited today as I got my new 901b from puresmoker. I had talked to Steve and had him send me low 11mg liquid, as I had posted before that the high cartridges seemed to be an overdose based on the ultra lights I smoke - even though I smoke 2 packs a day.

So I put in a cartridge and went for the communal smoke break. I was pacing about the same as everyone else, and I had between 12 and 15 good drags. Got back to my desk and in a few moments my pulse was racing, I was dizzy, my speech got a bit slurred and my typing was erratic - all the same stuff as before on the 18mg cartridge.

So, I put in the Zero cartridge and about 1 hour later went for another smoke break. This time, I didn't get the dizzyness etc. - but I started feeling a bit "itchy", started sneezing and my sinuses clogged up, and my throat started to hurt.

Sounds like I'm having a reaction to the PG?? I do use hair products that I checked the labels and they have PG, but I also sometimes get horrible sneezing and red eye attacks in the morning. Maybe this is all related?

Do these sound like PG allergy symptoms? Others describe more stomach related, but I didn't get those.

I've ordered some VG, but I'm back to smoking real cigarettes again. Sometimes I feel like I'm never going to get to make the switch... sigh...

(Time to go read thru the DIY threads I guess)

Sounds like you may want to look into non-pg formulas.

Since the technology hasn't been out for very long and pg allergy is quite rare, we really don't have a documented list of symptoms that we can relate with. Your symptoms, however, are the worst I've ever heard from this forum.

I'm not sure if anything you described can be described as cigarette withdrawal symptoms, but I wish you luck my friend. It could be just that you're one of very few unlucky ones.

Hi Lynchite,

The sore throat faded once I stopped the e-smoking. I'm going to keep trying to find a solution - but it's kind of frustrating 'cause I don't know whether it's a true allergy or just weird adjustment symptoms that would go away in time.

The nicotine strength is still a problem, 'cause those sessions are definitely not good when I get too much. So maybe I can cut the PG liquid with VG and lower the nicotine and maybe reduce the weird reactions. But I'll have to turn myself into a guinea pig for a while to figure it out.

bghouse ...

Re: the nic content. Would probably get pure VG and mix in with a low juice. Pure VG can be bought locally at VitaminShoppe ...
Pure Vegetable Glycerin by Nature's Answer - VitaminShoppe.com

This will also help cut down on the PG in the liquid itself. If you can handle the symptoms for 4-5 days, I'm pretty sure your system will be able to adjust accordingly. I don't think I have ever seen 1 person who has esmoked for a good week or two not have their system adjust after a while. It takes time, like everything else!

So, grab some VG, mix it in with some of your liquids, and see how you do!

Thanks Cashmere. I intended to try that yesterday evening, but I drove to all three Vitamin Shoppe's in LA and non of them carried at the local store. So, I've ordered - but have to wait for it to arrive.

I'm going to carefully try a few experiments again today with the zero nic cartridge I have, but go very easy and count how many puffs before I feel weird, etc.

Figuring out the nic dose is the hardest, as evidenced by all the forum posts. I kept track yesterday of all my smoke breaks - generally 2 cigs when we go down - 10 to 12 puffs on each. And I know my brand is .5mg per cig - now I just have to translate that to juice in a cartridge, etc. (yeah, I know, it maths again - lol).

Really ?

The Vitamin Shoppe by the Northridge Mall here in the valley had a few bottles (but I also got mine a few months back) You could also try calling different stores. That is what we did, and luckily found one that was local :)

Keeping track will definitely help. The problem is, the nic hit/rush with esmoking seems to take time, so by the time you feel it, you may have already ODed. Kind of like alcohol. You down 10 shots, you feel great for about 15-20 minutes, until, it hits you. Then you're in the bathroom! LOL ...

Just got to find that perfect median!
