I am new to the DIY juice world. Purchased all my supplies, read thousands of threads and "dove in". In my quest to make a Butter Rum juice I mixed up 3 batches at different strengths and without nic. I let them steep for a week and gave them a try. After going back and forth several times I settled on a mix of 14% Butter Rum and 4% Bavarian Cream. It tasted somewhat "weak" but I thought it would be OK.

I did another calculation with juice Me Up to add the nic. I mixed it shook it and tried it a couple of hours later. Although it is vapable and does taste like Butter Rum it is very strong and has a strange chemical taste that it did not have without the nic. I put it up to steep for a few days.

Is this normal?

Details:
Mixed at 20% Nic
80% PG / 20% VG
Butter Rum and Bavarian Cream from Lorann
PG/VG from Amazon
Tested in a "fresh" Evod with a Spinner Battery

Edit: The batch with the nic is a fresh batch. I did not add nic to the test batch.

Some flavors get stronger with age. If it doesn't mellow you may need to dilute it then adjust your recipe next time.

I just dripped a few drops (one day old) and it is stronger than my "no nic" batch. I'm going to leave it alone for a few days and see what happens.

Another question: On my test batches I initially mixed just the Butter Rum flavor and it seemed a little harsh by itself. That's why I added the Bavarian Cream. I know that every batch is different but as a general rule should you reduce the amount of primary flavor when you add a cream or just add whatever percent of cream on top of your primary flavor?

I reduce my primary flavor a bit. By how much kinda depends on the flavor for me. Most of my recipes are done by parts instead of %. The. I decide how much of the total to put in my liquid and divide it up. It's kinda confusing but works beat for me. Example 1 part flavor a 2 parts flavor b and 3 parts flavor c.you can use % instead of parts too. Then Decide how much total flavor i want. If i want mellow i may split it between 5-10% of my ejuice or if I want stronger i may go 15%.

This really helps me when coming up with new juices because i can more easily adjust how much of each flavor or the total strength of the flavor as i experiment. And I know how to adjust flavor for my mood that day.

With tfa I split it between 10% of my mix once I'm happy with ratio i adjust total flavor %. One plus is once i have a winner i can mix all my flavors in a bottle as just flavoring and add to my mixes when I want them. For me it cuts down on fiddling with many flavors when I want to just get it done fast.

Well I said it was confusing but hopefully I explained it ok.
