Noob, who do you think you're talking to :) ...I am a noob to diy (6 months) ...but as one of the ones with an uninformed opinion...I have a UC, I have a CP. I have used both these devices. Now I mostly just use my CP on warm for a few hours and sometimes I'll just warm a mix in a jar of hot tap water and shake the heck out of a mix and load a tank and have a go at it. But I'm certainly not going to obsess over the necessity of using an UC or CP before I can vape my juice...these are not a deal maker/breaker to me. I make my juice for me and if it taste good enough to vape right out of the gate then I vape it.

I have no aspirations for being the resident expert here, I was simply stating my not so well taken opinion that speed steeping is not imperative to anyone's vaping pleasure...no biggie...nothing wrong with vaping pretty good tasting juice that will only get better with time, gives me something to look forward to

Well said, I agree :) I've been lucky to have been turned on to some nice shake and vape recipes.

What really had me scratching my head, as a n00b, was some vendor juices that started out as crap or flavorless but after a few weeks turned into something good. I think a little experience goes a long way in knowing if you need to steep or not and speed steeping is a great tool for gaining that experience in a shorter amount of time.

A few months ago I ordered several bottles of bacco ejuice from Backwoods Brew. Out of the mail they were absolutely terrible! I went to their site and sure enough, right there they state steep time required for the juices (2 weeks for 2 of them, min of 3 for the other). I let them sit and tried them every week adn sure enough, when the suggested steep times hit they were "holy cow" better. You would never guess they were the same juice.

I tried these right away to see how they are fresh and because I'm impatient. They are good now, a just a tiny bit harsh but good. I'm sure they will be great after steeping either sitting in a drawer or with the crock pot method. What I meant was that I could vape this juice if this is as good as it gets. That being said, I'm gonna go throw them in the crock pot for the afternoon, let them rest, and then try them again tomorrow to compare.

Thank you all for your help with this, really appreciate all the support and guidance!

Well you don't know if UC steeping will help until you've tried it. I some times wonder if the nay sayers have ever even tried UC steeping or do they just have there own uninformed opinion that it don't work or is a waist of time or steeping is not nessessary because it wont make a difference and they are just as happy to vape unmatured juice. It's true that not all juices need to steep but if your a tobacco vaper, desert vaper or creamy fruit vaper then you likely already know this is not true. I can't tell you how many posts I've answered that there flavor is weak or to strong, chemical tasting, flavors are not blended or consistant or taste harsh or bitter and the answer is usually that they have not steeped. I've been UC steeping from the onset and have done every type of steeping method known to man. I have enough experience to give an informed opinion and do know for a fact that it works very well. So my informed opinion is Mix it and taste it and if you like it vape it and if after a few days it changes then steep it and if nessessary adjust it. If you like waiting weeks then steep naturally. If you want to steep your juice and don't want to wait then use a UC or a crock pot or a combination of both because it does in fact work.

Danny, followed the easy recipe you posted for me on mixing the Desert Ship and Highway and they are SUPERB, thank you brother!!!

I was buying this peanut butter/chocolate juice that really had no flavor at all when I first got it. At two weeks you could start tasting the peanut butter but it took four to six weeks for it to be full flavor, and it's really good. Just makes me wonder how much actual flavoring it has in it, did it take that long to develop or was it over flavored and the flavors had to diminish before being able to taste them? Are we over-flavoring when we mix to taste right away?

Flavors act very differently depending on what your using. Some flavors will be tasteless when first mixed and come out over time. Other flavors may be to strong and will mellow over time. Some flavors if you over flavor will have no taste and others are so weak it takes 15 or 20% to taste anything. After you've gained some experience working with different flavors you will get a feel for how different manufactures flavors mix. This is why it is so fustrating for new DYI'ers. This is why after I find flavor manufactures that work for me I stick with them. At the moment I find Hangsen and inawera flavors the best and easy to work with and produce great results with little effort. I also use TFA flavors and know how they react when mixed and must admit they are difficult to work with but when you get them right there wonderful. It's really all just experience. But I to have the same fustrations and find myself experimenting quite a bit to get them right every time I use a new TFA flavor.

If you have a question on whether it works or not, just look at the vendors that sell DIY NETs. Most use a heat maceration to extract the flavor. So if they use heat to speed up transfer of flavor from tobacco to the the pg, etc, then one could say that using heat helps speed transfer of flavor into the pg and vg in a juice.

My crock pot hit 170 on low. I set it for 2.5 hours. I don't know if one manufacturer hits a different temp or not.

<<<snip>>>

I'm new, so I'm still learning, so take my advice very lightly, lol.

My $10. CP had the same over temp issue you mention. So, I added a cheap on/off timer like this one:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Brinks-42-1023-4-Brinks-Grounded-1-Outlet-Analog-Timer/21909761

By setting it to turn off and back on at 30 min intervals (after getting to 150), I keep my water temp between roughly 147 and 153 degrees.

This works for me.

Ronco results.....

Bottles wouldn't fit under cover, out comes trusted dremel. Cut one bottom of tray out so it is a spacer ring. Works good.
Eight trays well seven now is to high for good heat transfer.
Four plus spacer ring is just right.
Slow heating to make 100% VG like water... Kind of.
6 hrs with caps off then caps on for a good paint shake.
Then another 6 hrs with caps on.
Then a dark rest. Got some good color change happening. All interweb juice. Haven't took the plunge into DIY yet.
