No one is saying they are risk free, I hope. There are long term risks, so use vaping only if you are prepared to live with potential negative health effects later. The alternatives to this undefined risk are gum, patches, chantix, or returning to the proven killer of analog smoking.

I totally hear you, and maybe part of my apprehension is knowing if something seems to be too good to be true it usually is...at least with cigarettes I could see the end result and if i ended up there somewhere down the line I could eat responsibility but I at least knew. I mean what if vaping makes your eyes glaze over or your legs develop a stabbing sensation or who knows, but its a cumulative thing. I guess I just don't like being the canary in the coal mine on something.
I think we have waited long enough for the previously mentioned organizations to come up with a cure for smoking. lord knows how much taxpayer money has been wasted in this quest that is literally ending because of a chinese guy in his garage(may the man enjoy a long life, and riches beyond imagination.). like it or not the genie is already out of the bottle. two generations from now tobacco will be found in history books, as one of the worst plagues in human history. and this miracle we have all found, will also fade into obscurity. the previously mentioned groups are just mad that they didn't come up with this miracle. we are the ones who have invented this industry, and no corporation or political organization can take that from us. enjoy your time as a canary. i promise lung cancer is worse.

Here's a presentation by Dr. Konstantinos Farsalinos- Effects of electronic cigarettes on myocardial function

The study compared 20 smokers, who smoked at least 15 cigarettes a day for at least 5 years, to 22 experienced electronic cigarette users, who had previously smoked at least as much, but had quit smoking and used electronic cigarettes for at least one month prior to the study. The study compared baseline measurements taken after a 4 hour abstinence period from food, caffeine, or nicotine, to measurements taken after smoking one cigarette, or using an e-cig for 7 minutes.

Besides showing less effect on heart rate and blood pressure than smoking, and no adverse impact on heart function, another interesting finding noted in Dr. Farsalinos' presentation was that the electronic cigarette users, who averaged 95 days of e-cig use each, had been heavier smokers than the smoking group in the study, averaging 44% greater lifetime smoke exposure. Despite this, the e-cig user groups experience with switching from cigarettes to e-cigs was very rapid, with a mean average of only 2.5 days to make the transition.

Although the study size was small, making the findings suggestive rather than definitive, the careful protocols and detailed readings of recognized cardiac health indicators make this a very valuable study in the growing body of data supporting the relative safety of e-cig use compared to tobacco smoking. And it avoided several flaws in previous studies' methods, such as ensuring that all e-cig users were experienced users, because experienced e-cig users use their e-cigs more intensively and efficiently than beginning users, a fact that skewed the results in several earlier studies. Hopefully, this study's results will be published soon in a peer reviewed journal, and will be followed up on with larger studies involving much larger numbers of subjects so the results will have greater statistical significance.

Safer? I don't care, that's not why I vape. I do it to breath better, for the improved sense of taste & smell. I don't stink, I don't cough, I don't have to go in the cold, heat or rain to feed my addiction. For all the "right here, right now" reasons. ALL the short term research shows it's much safer, and you reap benefits. Long term, well, we all die from something, regardless of how safely we try to live.

I know I went too high on nicotine in my first couple orders. I find that the lack of a "timer" on the ecig, the "newness", and the more pleasant experience had me vaping more than I would smoke. Also the nicotine takes a bit longer to hit (a few minutes versus a few seconds). Another thing is you don't have to inhale vapor to get nic so it all adds up inhale or not (learned the hard way). For me that added up to too much nicotine. I went from 18 mg/ml, down to 12 mg/ml, and now I'm only using 6 mg/ml after dinner. And even with 6 mg I can get carried away and it affect my sleep. I'm having to be more patient and vape in more moderation as I learn what works for my body. Sounds like you are on the same path of discovery!

I do not know the potential dangers to vaping...and there may be some. Nothing wrong with studying this and I feel that there should be serious, quality long-term studies...but these are things that I know are different since vaping and not smoking cigarettes (2 pack a day guy, 59 years old).

I quit coughing. My "smoker's cough" has disappeared.
My breathing is easier.
My gums feel better, and are definitely healthier than they were.
My fingernails are no longer stained from smoking.
As much as I enjoy vaping, I have lost that overwhelming "urge" to smoke/vape...I HAD to have that next cigarette...

My clothes, car, and apartment all smell better...

No, I am not 100% sure that vaping is harmless...but I AM 100% sure that I am better off vaping than smoking!

that's the first doctor i didn't want to sue for malpractice. lots more study's to do, but people like these give me hope.

I gave a presentation to 43 Healthcare individuals (Drs, Dentists, Surgeons, Naturopaths,) a yr ago and 37 gave vaping a  Most were dumbfounded by the facts and had no idea of the true nature of our passion- many were quite upset at the misinformation they had received from the various "authorities". Most of them even vaped no nic joose and LOVED the flavors. Since that meeting many of them have called me up to help convert some patients for whom all other smoking cessations progs had failed. They are AMAZED at how successful and easy this prog is- the success rate among these patients is 85%. It's a slow uphill slog of a battle but slowly we are winning...consider awhile ago a full ban on Ecigs was in the cards.

Edit: I guess my point is not all Doctors are the same...just like vapers :D
Also the Association of Physicians and Surgeons had a petition for Dr's to sign. It's generally the Big Bux Corporations that are screwing us along with a few Fat Kats from "non profit" orgs.

Smoked for 40 years. Quit once when I was pregnant, started smoking again about 6 months after daughter was born, and until February 3rd, never tried to quit again. I liked smoking, had no urge to quit, but money was my reason to try. Have not had even one ciggy since February 3rd. So hey, vaping has got to be better for me. I don't cough anymore, I used to cough all day. My husband loves no more ash trays sitting around, even the dog is happy(she used to sneeze at me all the time). So yeah I think it is healthier, really, can it be worse.

Hi! Love your post! I was a pack a day smoker for 15 yrs. I used to only smoke name brand until the gov't got greedy with taxes so I was forced to switch to pall malls. Now I chose this brand bc of the "slow burn paper" biggest mistake I made! I started on the lights about 2yrs ago and noticed they were too harsh so I went for ultra lights (Orange pack) ! A yr ago started my lung probs! The nasty coughing up mucus that you mentioned! I also had trouble breathing. Even though I was a smoker my docs told me my lungs were the 1 organ workin right in my body! I did research an it turns out I was not the only 1 gettin sick from pall malls! Myself along with others all over the world were showing very early stages of emphysema! Now ever since I started vaping (6-8wks) no more coughing up an I threw my inhaler out! But your right it doesn't mean E Cigs are totally safe as there is much to be researched. What I know for sure like you, is that since the switch I feel so much healthier! Our bodies do undergo many changes when switching from analogs to E Cigs (could be reason for your redness)?? Also you mentioned the cartos from SI.....I learned the hard way bout "dry hits" Sometimes the cartos get dry either from the way they are stored (battery thread down is best so gravity takes the juice to the atty)OR simply you are taking too long of a hit (I was doin this and it really burns the back of your throat)! Vaping is a lifestyle an it Def takes time to master! Sorry this was long. I hope I was of some help! Vape on! :D

yeah, I mean saying it doesnt feel as bad so it has to be alot better for you is like saying youd rather have HIV than the flu because the flu symptoms look worse, doesnt really follow logic, but Im gonna keep vaping so whatever:glare:
