iStick PICO ... what should I know?

Alright so I have a very basic understanding about the workings of this wonderful little device. It came with a 0.3 and 0.5 ohm coil I have no idea why one is different from the other, can someone explain please?

Firmware, what is advantageous about downloading new firmware to my device?

Is this coil the kind that "regulates" like it caters to my draw power or something like that?

I am a little lost, someone enlighten me?

I can't really help you. I do use the Pico. But, I've never updated it. And, I don't use the Melo III.

Simple device, great for a beginner, IMO. I preferred the 0.5 coils, works better at lower wattage which saves on battery power. The 0.3 coil probably can take a little more wattage, but even at 0.5 I found the tank got quite warm while chain vaping. The melo tank uses any “Atlantis compatible” coil, so there’s a whole bunch of options, as far as I know, makes it easier to find coils. Printed on the side of the coil head is a recommended wattage range. Prime your coil well by dripping liquid onto the wicking material inside the coil and the wicking holes on the outside of the coil. Set your wattage lower than the recommendation printed on the side and work your way up until you enjoy the vape.
I have had 4 Picos, 2 I updated and 2 I didn’t. Didn't really notice any difference except I figured out how to put a custom logo on it. I also managed to brick one using my POS laptop but managed to restore it using my father in laws desktop.

The mod is regulated not the coil, meaning the device has a computer chip with certain protections, like it won’t fire if the coil is shorted.

Higher resistance coils take less power but because of this they produce less vapor. There should be suggested wattages printed on the side of the coil cartridges.

Firmware is software built into a device. It’s like software but doesn’t go away and need to be reloaded when the device is restarted. It’s also harder to load, hence firm rather than soft or hard.
Your mod is a tiny computer. The firmware is the software that runs the computer. A firmware update could give you additional features, more accurate temp control, a different screen layout, anything that could be programmed basically. There should be a list of features of the new firmware somewhere. You can decide if you want the new programming no update or not

Great little mod. Remember your not just limited to the melo tank. Any 22mm tank with a coil ohm of .1 to 3.5 will work in wattage mode and .05 to 1.5 ohms will work for temperature control mode. I would recommend a 20amp battery like the lg hg2 or Samsung 30q if you vape below 50 watts.

I put a Smok Baby Beast on mine with the Quad X4 .15 ohm coil and for the last few months it has been my pocket friendly take to work mod. All day on a single battery. Now I have it topped with a Tsunami RDA as a taste tester for new DIY juices. Little mod is a workhorse.

Yup, the Pico is definitely a good mod. I have half a dozen of them. Topped with anything I happen to be using at the time. Right now, with Kayfuns and Ego One tanks.

Great little device. I also own multiples because I own multiple tanks and can never seem to settle on one flavor for more than an hour or two.

The Melo is a nice little tank, but not great. Some other tanks I've used on it are the Subtank Mini, Toptank Mini, Vaporesso Estoc, Baby Beast and Juppi. All are good flavor tanks and while the Beasts can take more power, they're all good at 35-40 Watts.

Updating the firmware is ok, but not necessary. If you like it as is, leave it be. Three of mine are updated, two are not.

As far as updating to ArcticFox.... if you want more adjustability it's worth it..... IMO the original FW functions just as good..... AF doesn't make the mod work better...... it does let you have a little more control over how the mod functions though.

Get your point, but I think @ZDaddy was asking about using the Eleaf utility to flash his firmware from the 1.00 version that's still shipping on many Pico 75's to the 1.03 version.

Version 1.03 does improve the temp control features of the iJoy chipset and only makes some cosmetic changes to the display.

Arctic Fox is a different animal altogether. I finally got that software working and it does improve the user's control over how the mod does things. It's also definitely not for a relative newcomer who already has a lot of info to obtain, learn and apply. That is, unless said newcomer is a very eager student with a lot of spare time on his/her hands and already has a good understanding of the device's capabilities and shortcomings.

The Arctic Fox package has zero documentation, doesn't have any self-installation process, doesn't use the Windows registry to avoid hardware or software incompatibilities and is written by a rather ill-tempered genius.

Don't actually have a Pico (I prefer 2 battery mods) but I usually hear a lot of good things about it, and I know a few people who have them. Seems to be a solid little device. Looking at the answers to the technical questions here, if I have to recommend a device for a new vaper, this is probably the best solution.

The Pico Dual can be had at or near the same price as the 75. It's 200 Watt capable (good luck finding 100 Watt capable batteries), does temp control well and is a battery sipper. I don't care much for the color combos so I got the all black.

It also takes 25mm tanks but there's a smidge of overhang.

In fact, Eleaf has a Pico flavor for everyone. RTDA, squonking, single-battery 85 Watt capable...

I've got the RDTA and, while it works, I'm none too impressed. It comes with dual Clapton coils and I believe a 2000mah battery which seems a bit weak. I relaxed those with dual, single-wire coils which helps. Also, the top cap/mouthpiece tends to come loose and fall off. The store I got it from sent me a new top cap and barrel which has worked for a few months, but seems to be getting loose.
