I just prefer to say I SMOKE, period.

We like to pretend we don't, but we do.
I smoke a cigarette.
I smoke nocotine.

If someone asks if I quit smoking, my answer is no, I still smoke nicotine.
I try to remember the 30+ years I smoked cigarettes and really enjoyed them and not turn into one of those anti smoking pretentious nazis just because I changed from one habit to another. And I see that attitude here often.
" Ewww, I just hate those smokers now that I vape".... puke.

We smoke, end of story, get over this bull.....

Sorry, but the only time I smoke anymore is when I'm on fire. :D

Truthfully I have never actually been comfortable with the terms... vape, vaping, vaped, vaper... They're not so bad typed, but out loud... good grief, they sound pretty silly. It's not smoke, I don't inhale smoke, thus I don't smoke, but more power to those that do. Doesn't bother me as long as they're not stinking up my house, because even I didn't do that when I did smoke. What else are you going to call inhaling vaporized nicotine though? I respire? Suspire? How about invaporate? Nope, they don't work. Maybe eventually someone might come up with a more fitting term, but until then I am going to have to say I vape, or avoid it all together by saying I use an e-cigarette.

Homeish now
You know I'd like to say that I really dont care what yall ciggys or e-cigs.........but for "political" porposes.

We need some sort of clear cut defined difference between a Paper tube thats burned, and a liquid that's evaporated by a battery for someone who doesnt know jack about any of it. I think our very future as "legal" users of PV's depends upon there being a difference. To the general public that line in the sand will be the name, and little more.
Honestly I dont think "e"cig is enough of a difference.
Just renaming..their product isnt enough either, good luck getting a smoker to call a cig, an analog. We can call it that all day long till we are blue in the face.

Just gonna call em 'logs from now on. Taste like burnt wood/... nowadays anyway, so it's fitting!

As far as a generalized term.. well, TW is trying to promote the E-Ni (Electronic Nicotine Inhaler) moniker as to not be so pigeon holed into the cigarette category. It's all about general perception. If it looks and lights up like a cigarette, people who don't know about it will think it's a cigarette. While most sticks have different colors at the tip to sorta lend to the fact that it's not actually a cig, the vapor exhale can throw it all off too.

I think we need a support group for this. "Vapers Against Using The Word Analog." VAUTWA. I think it'll catch on.

Maybe we should start a petition... :)

Sorry if anyone takes this matter SO seriously that I've offended you by making light of the topic. I don't care about the term analog other than I don't use it outside of our little community. I don't care much for the word vaping either. (I can't bring myself to say I'm vaping, I call it smoking my ecig, or as my coworkers like to refer to it, smoking my crackpipe. I really hate the term Crackpipe. I dunno what they will say when I finallly buy a battery mod, but I probably won't like that either!)

Happy monday all...

In all fairness, we will also need a support group, "Analog users against using the word Vaper". In fact, we should ban the words PV, vaper, vapor, electronic cigarette, analog, cigarette, smoking, smoke, e-juice, tobacco, etc. We can just call it "our puffer".:D

For the Love of all that is Holy...

Stop
Calling
Cigarettes
ANALOGS!!!!!!!

. And it does not even make sense! AT ALL!! There is no rhyme or reason behind calling them that.

I am neither for nor against the term analog, however, to point out the rhyme or reason it’s a very common word in this age of technology that denotes a non-digital item. In the case of electronic cigarettes it was (IMO) a pretty clever term put on a product most of us wanted to distance ourselves from. That in turn became a main stay among e-cig users. I don’t see the arrogance in it but hey, it takes all kinds right?

Interesting thread - about words..... e-cigarette really makes no more or less sense than "analogs" since besides the fact that PV's simulate the 'action of smoking' and involve absorbing nicotine, they are nothing like a cigarette which is a "Combustible, Tobacco" product. PV's neither burn nor do they contain tobacco. That said I have read the word douche or variations of that word more on this thread than in my entire life - what's up with that?!?!!? just pokin'fun.

Let's just ban all words, then we won't have to worry about anything saying something someone else doesn't like and making a big deal about it.

This is a new corner of the culture and people are trying to come up with the idioms for it. Some of it will stick, some of it won't. "Analog" is a harmless little word that lets some newcomers feel like they're part of a community.

I thought saying "my bad" instead of "my fault" sounded foolish, but it's part of the language now. But I will never get used to using words to mean their antonyms (e.g. bad and sick.) Language is meant to aid communication and words lose clarity if you have to figure out which of two contrary definitions the speaker had in mind.

If you want to obsess about the language of vaping, try nailing down what to call the fluid we put in our PVs.
