It seems too simple- am I missing something?

That works.

So does clicking the blue number 3 below my avatar that is just to the right of "Blog".

Also clicking blog on the nav-bar below the ECF banner and then Best Blogs and I should be near the top with Lolady. (I thought that was funny and Makes me wonder how the best blogs came to be ranked the way they are. I just posted some stuff mixers have learned the hard way over the years.)

I will read up on the ethyl malitol. It sounds like this is a sweetener of some kind? I actually haven't liked some of the juice that tastes overly sweet at this time. That may change, but at the moment I am enjoying the ones that are more subdued in sweetness.

Thanks for everyone's advice! Anything else to add, please go ahead. I am a total beginner on this.

Yep, it took me awhile to figure out that it is the EM that I don't like. I prefer to use other flavors where needed. Some folks really like it and use it in all of their mixes but there are those of us out there that don't like it at all. There are many other flavors that will give depth and fullness to the juice if you find that EM is not for you.

Good luck to you.

I think that as long as you understand some basic algebra, the mixing part can get pretty easy. It's finding the right percentage of flavoring that makes it a little more challenging. And then just the safety risks, which are there, but easily controlled. DIY is going to my my summer project I think.

Yes, that is one reason I think I find the mixing part so simple. Algebra is definitely not a problem for me. I read the information and downloaded the calculator and I doubted it had to be that easy! lol

Yes, the flavoring seems to be the biggest issue in mixing, so I will read all that I can about that.

I've decided when I start DIY, I'm going to stick with 50/50. Thus far I've enjoyed almost all juices I've had at 50/50, or close to it. Tho I also had an amazing Orange Creme at 100% VG. So who knows. I think DIY will make my life easier in that I like to mix up my nic levels as well. 24mg at work, 16-18mg on days off running around town, and 10-12mg when I am chain vaping at home. :)

Thanks for the blogs, they were very helpful. I saved them for easy access when I actually start doing this.

If you're going to do 80/20 PG/VG, I would recommend getting 250ml of PG, you'll go through that faster. Also, get some marshmallow, it rounds out your flavors and gives some depth.

Yes, I was looking again at the amounts I should buy and realized if I am going to do this the amount of PG used are going to be quite a bit higher, and I can always buy VG locally when I need it.

Wizard Labs isn't that far from you..they do pick up orders, save you shipping ;)

Thanks for the information! I was actually going to call them tomorrow to find that out as it would not only save me shipping, I DO NOT like to wait for shipping! lol

Since I won't be able to buy anything until the 26th my current juice will last me until then so that makes me very happy indeed.

Jason you will not only save a ton of $$ diy'g, but you will get consistent flavor with your juices. No more buying perfume juices, or premium juices that have suddenly changed from their supplier ;-) I've been Diy'g for about 3 yrs and when i look at 2012 juice prices, i'm like 'no way! pass!'. i've been burned too many x by commerical juice that was unvapeable. Diy suits me just fine.

Don't be afraid of EM sweetening your juice. It can do that if you use too much, but it also works as a "blender". You will want it on hand if you mix up a batch that has too much of 1 overpowering flavor. it happens, especially if you're like me and vape it as soon as you mix it :) It tames down overpowering flavor and helps blend them all together.

I do a finger swipe, (or 1/2 finger swipe along the edge of the bottle of crystals and tip the bottle up to catch some crystals on my finger) and swipe it in to my juice bottle and shake. Problem solved! nice blend.

I get all my flavoring from perfumers apprentice, but i prefer the actual chemical when i can get it. ie: ethyl maltol CRYSTALS. I too bought her marshmallow, and it has little flavor. The crystals will last a LONG time and you can premix as you need them or finger swipe and you'll have no flavor change consistency problems. Too many of linda's 'flavors' turn to perfume or an acetone taste. For actual flavors, I stick with Lorann's. They've been making stable flavors for years and then never turn on me.

Have fun and you'll get very good at it!!

Thanks! I am looking forward to getting into this. I am online right now looking for the best vendor prices for what I need. I plan to order everything tonight.

Wizard Labs is out of stock on EM so I am having to get it elsewhere.

I also have a question regarding menthol. I see there is a menthol flavor concentrate available. I want to make some menthol flavor for my wife. Should I buy the straight menthol flavor or buy the menthol crystals and mix it with another flavor like tobacco or something? When you buy a menthol flavor from a vendor is it just a menthol flavored mix or what?

jason i'd go with the crystals. keep it pure so it doesn't turn into a rancid juice on you. i never smoked menthol my a good diy friend of mine uses the crystals. the closer you can get to individual components, the happier you'll be and be able to make the perfect custom blend for you and your wife. Don't forget to get some distilled water if you don't have it. Sometimes the flavors are so concentrated that a few drops of DW can help the blend. I also use Pure grain alcohol, or skye vodka. Especially if i add any VG to my PG mix for vapor. a few drops of each works wonders.

perfumers apprentice has EM crystals for a good price and they don't rape you on shipping either. Perfumers Apprentice - Ethyl Maltol crystals

I ordered all the basics last night- 250ml 48mg nic in PG base, 250ml PG, 120ml VG and 3 different flavors from Wizard Labs.

I had to order the EM from One Stop DIY Shop so while I was on their site I ordered another flavor from them as well.

For now I am going to try these out for myself before making anything for my wife. She still have almost a full bottle of menthol and clove that I bought her a week ago.

I also have a friend that is a vaper and he may want me to make him something. If I feel confident with my own I will make some for him as well.

Between today and tomorrow I am going to find some measuring supplies, bottles, etc here locally. I actually have probably 90% of what I need already. My wife even gave me permission to use two of the small measuring cups that we don't use anymore. :) I even found two old glass, amber colored dropper bottles in the pantry that had Oregano extract in them. That would be fine to use if I clean them out thoroughly? I figured since they are glass it would be ok. Not sure I would do that with plastic.

I've found it much easier to use syringes rather than measuring cups. You can get free ones at publix, cvs and walgreens. I use the 1ml for flavors, and 3 and 5mls for the nic/pg/vg.

Free? What do you do, ask the pharmacist? What do you tell them when they ask what it's for? I don't want to look "odd" to them. :)

I have one 1ml syringe with several blunt tips already, so I could use those for flavors. I got it from a local vendor when I bought a clearomizer from him.

Thanks for the info.

While working with menthol crystals isn't rocket science, I find it easier/simpler to just buy liquid menthol concentrate, pre-dissolved menthol in PGA. It's a whopping $8 for 30 ml from perfumersapprentice. I typically use it at about 3%, so that 30 ml goes a long way.

On syringes, just ask at the desk if they have a couple of small oral syringes -- I've gotten them free multiple times. Otherwise ask where the oral syringes for baby medicine are, no biggie, around $2 each.
