its not pointless sub, its a different vaping style. A single coil produce an amount of heat. A dual coil produce less heat per wire but you have 2 wires to vape. Its not the same as you see
Quick question on dual coil..
I know I've asked a lot about the ohm doubling with dual coils.. but is it "pointless" to just double your ohms, as it will be the same thing as a single coil?
I read (on a different site) that it was pointless... but it would surely be more vapor, right? Would there be more throat hit, too?

I just wanted to make sure before I get my Ithaka :)

Thanks!

You're not actually doubling your ohms, it's more like vaping 2 equivalent PVs at the same time (provided you have a device that can handle the amperage. I'll be running dual 1.5Ω coils (using ready mades...) on a 100% mech mod (GGTS). The switch can handle virtually unlimited amperage, so it can handle 5.6 amps - 0.75Ω@4.2v - on full battery (because it is driving equivalent current to 2x 1.5Ω coils).

For my Provari V2 I'd minimally want dual 2.0Ω coils. It has 3.5A switch but a safety "power limitation" that will E1/E2 around 0.9Ω.
For any of my Chinese electronics VV/VW devices (ZMax, VMax, Gripper, etc...) I'd need at least dual 2.4Ω since they have a safety "resistance limitation" of 1.2Ω.

I think dual +3.0Ω coils would run fine on just about any PV, but on any of my VV/VW devices I'll probably try single 1.5ohm x-wick first.

Cool. The first thing I had been planning on trying was 2x 2ohm coils because I typically vape a 1ohm coil (Odysseus and GGTS) - I just wanted to double check it's what I wanted.

Also, regarding ohms and wire length.. can I essentially just double the length of the wire I use? I do have a multimeter but it jumps all over the place, despite being a $50 multimeter. I think I need better clips for it or something... but that's another topic.

yes, resistance is a function of length so double length should = 2x resistance. I always use a meter when making NR-R-NR wires, but if you double your normal length and wrap 2 coils with that you should end up about where'd you'd be with your normal single.

I thought so, just making sure :)

And yeah.. I really do need a good multimeter, but I don't want to spend a hundred bucks on one. I really want to get this $50 one working. It's a Klein MM200 I believe. It works good if I actually WRAP the wire around the test probes, but not if I just touch the wires... I also bought alligator clips that fit my probes, but they still don't work good. The ohm rating just jumps around. I also tried those little hook tips, no dice. I feel like I need to find very tiny alligator clips or something.. I don't know. I almost feel like I'm doing something wrong because other people get it to work fine.

Thanks Cloud Wizard!

Hmm, i use a Klein MM200 and it works pretty well. Make sure you touch the leads together 1st to zero it out. I use the alligator clamps on the probes but easiest is to attach one side of the NR to R, attach clamp to NR (near twist) and then lay R down on a non-conductive surface (something flat and rubber - I use a fold-able kitchen cutting board) and then just press down on the with the other probe and slide it till you get the reding you want.

Sometimes if the reading is jumping between 2 values move a little one way or the other. Those mulitmeters only read to n.n so will jump back and forth if your between values (e.g. 1.55 -> flip between 1.6/1.5)

yeah I had these before:

but they didn't work too well, either. They would work OK if I pressed hard so the hook was clamped really tight onto the wire, but not just right off the bat..

Keep an eye on cloudsofvapor.com daily. Bruce should be getting a shipment any day. I'm just not sure how many he'll have unspoken for. Also, Imeo will be making more in a week or two (don't quite me on time). I'm not sure if he will be taking another round of preorders or just shipping to his sellers.

Oh. And congrats on vaping. :toast:

Ok. I'll admit. I'm getting just a tad jealous watching everyone open their "gifts". This is like Christmas, only I'm not sure what day Santa is coming.

I'm hyped too. I'm super at rigging my Ody and Penelope but all thumbs when it comes to dual coils. I don't even attempt it. Having the Ithaka tailor made for the purpose is going to be awesome.

Never attempted one either but excited to try after reading this thread. The question is: Will I vape anything else once I get these two setup?
