if you dont oxidise the mesh then I am not against the use of it pl. But it seems a difficult and time eater procedure

I've went to using silica sleeves on ss cable for genesis atomizers. Works great. And no oxidizing required.

You Know my friend I would never want to make you repeat anything you have previously stated, but I had never read that thread so I asked, I had the feeling that was the reason, it just leaves room for metal particles to release into the vape and like you said, rust also, I know it is a firestorm of a topic here but I agree that I would not want to vape like we vape and take any chance that even the smallest particle of rust or metal would be released into my or my wife's lungs, just saying...
Sorry to make you repeat yourself but thank you for your honest opinion, Robert

Hello all. So I have the updated center post nuts from COV coming in the mail. First gotta say awesome response from COV. Sent an email Friday evening inquiring about them and got an email Sunday evening with a tracking number.

So, I was wondering for those who have used it what difference you have noticed. I don't really get a gurgling or anything off the original center nuts. Is there any other benefit to the shorter center nuts?

Skinny section allows Ithaka to take more liquid xtreme, that means that if Ithaka had a skinny section in shortest mode it would be able to take more liquid. And be sure that your Ithaka takes more than 2 ml of liquid in your short mode as it is right now. I measure the capacity by maths, so I am very accurate on this. You measure it by drops of liquid, so you cant be very accurate

My time belongs to my customers buddy and I try to never forget that:)
Imeo, So even though telescopic mouthpiece does not have skinny section like original design for more liquid, would we still be able to get 2ml in shortest mode? Just asking because it would seem less liquid since there is no skinny section in mouthpiece.

Thank you for taking the time and answering everyone's question/concerns in many of the GG threads today :)

You dont make me repeat my self nos, no worries about this. I just said it because you had to know that I am against mesh for a long time now:)

Ello DI,
With much respect I mostly disagree. When submurged in liquid and heated ss can still produce toxin with or without sleeves.

I am a ss mesh user, eko and silica user. You are correct with typing that ss will rust. I have never experienced this visually personally but, assume even changing my ss mesh wicks often, it happens without the ability to visually see it happen. Silica weeps small fibrous glass particles even when torched as well as ekowool(hence the crunching when cutting torched eko).
True, that ekowool is also produced by a form of silica but the chemical make up is changed and a bit better. Ekowool can withstand wear and heat better without the quick breakdown. This information can be found and backed by the manufacturers in Russia that have produced and studied it for years.
The newest addition to our wicking wonderland is Nextel from 3M. As good of a medium that it might be, please do your homework on it. 3M is in it to make a buck all day but, when they refuse vape sales due to the safety, we must listen. There are many articles about the dangers to our health.

All of a sudden wrapping ss cable and mesh is a trend but, it still will not stop the minute particles of ss and now you are potentially enjoying micro glass that is one of the causes mesothelioma.

I enjoy all but the Nextel in my devices and am not a cotton/hemp/granola wick supporter. I just am a realist and wanted to point out hiding one medium with another soaked in juice and getting hot does not make it "healthier"
Much like putting a ...... in a $1200.00 dress, she is still a ...... and I'm wearing a hat!

I only responded to be sure that newcomers aren't under the impression that sleeving your wicks is the cure all.

respectfully
the guy from Idaho.

Guy from Idaho,

I am a newcomer and appreciate hearing from experienced & educated people in this community. I would appreciate if you could explain how to properly prepare silica and ekowool.

I have purchased silica, ekowool & even some ceramic xc-116 vendor claims is heated in his kiln according to 3Ms specs.

So I am asking what must be done with each of these (to make it healthier, safer) prior to coiling. Do they need to be boiled, torched, both. I never heard anyone mentioning boiling silica until people started experimenting with the ekowool and was told to boil it.

This information would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Eh, i'm no guru like most here, I just have the time now in my life to finally relax and learn.
Yes boiling either of the two eko or silica is a great habit to start, just for a minute or so. Before you boil the eko make sure and stretch it and torch the ends as to avoid fraying. Depending on the silica you possess will determine whether you can boil it without it uncoiling.
I use a very loose rolled silica from beyond that prohibits me to boil it.
If you do not boil and torch, be sure to torch. Do yourself a favor and pick up a cheap hand torch(Burnzomatic or such) and dont use a lighter. Lighters leave residue. I avoid torching until it glows red but do torch. As, in some of my configurations it lends to easier handling. Blow the wick off good after the torch whether eko or silica.

You must be getting the 116 from Big Tex Vape? The only Nextel I would use is the kiln fired(should be white in color not red) but I still wouldn't touch the shti in my opinion regarding health. I also refute guessing whether it has reached temp by a 3rd party kiln operator. But, I also will never tell someone not to use it or argue with anyone that does. It is a great wicking medium.
Look into it though. Some do swear by it and I can find issues with what I use brother.

Remember eko is measured by the inner tube diam if hollow and hollow you will find abundant as it wicks at a better pace than solid. 1mm eko is solid. I have used 1-4mm eko and love it. I have sent many samples out and am due a large batch coming in and happy to send some.
Also remember all eko is not equal. The Motherland holds the truth!

Please know that your response has been an extremely helpful to me. The 116 is indeed from Big Tex and my reluctance is same as yours and not 100% sure if indeed heated or properly heated (stayin away... better to be safe than sorry).

I do not want to continue to derail thread and will send you PM.
