Well, Dark is the one that pre made the coil. I fold 3 cottons over each other and a pin in the middle. I wrap right on the wick.
When you wrap on the wick, and remove the pin, you have the gap you need for swelling. Although, Dark mentioned a drill bit (5/64). That's what I will be trying next.

Yankee - I like your idea! All I need to find is something appropriate size to wrap my coil around before I feed the 3 cotton strands. Any suggestions?

Actually I'm surprised and a little embarrassed I never thought of that with using silica! :what:

Sent from my Note II using Tapatalk.

I tried that method with silica and found it to be a time consuming effort. It just doesn't compress enough to be able to thread effectively and then still be able to expand to fill the coils. Another reason I abandoned the silica. :)

If you still want to use the x configuration with a single coil I will do some experimenting to see if I can find a way to use the drill bit wrap. If you are using silica, you can actually combine the two 3mm strands by separating out one wick into single strands and adding them one by one to the other giving you a really fat wick. Then its just a matter of finding the correct diameter of drill bit to fit it. Wrap, thread, then separate the wick on the ends to go down the channels.

Still sounds like alot of effort. :)

so Bruce send you the wrong o-rings Yankee?
I just got caught up with some posts. First off, I can't address all individually. I'm sorry for this. This week has been a build up and today, while everyone was celebrating, it was just an average day. Yes, JGGs arrived, but I'll leave that aside for now.
I received my replacement 17x1 orings - They looked the same. I measured them and saw 16. I measured, and re-measured, and measured again. Scratched my head and wondered how putting those orings could be any worse than I had before. So I installed the "17x1" on top and on base. left 16x1 on window.

- Some points I remember reading. I use ss window. I don't do plastic either (I know it was asked and I know Jojo answered same way).
- I have swapped out parts among the Ithakas I use.
- I don't lube my orings - never have and never had a problem. I do refuse to have the "oring grow into" the size it needs to fill. (sorry - I copied someone's words here)
- Leaks from top or bottom, from both, but NOT from windows that I recall. So I left 16s there.
- I don't have "official ithaka replacement orings" but have the sizes I need to rebuild the ithaka all day long. (according to oring guide in GG forum)
- I can go days without any juice, then I can go days without being able to STOP the juice leaks. So I may not know how long it will take to confirm anything. Again - it looks like 16s. But I'll ride the train.

For now I only have one Ithaka running. And yes, it's running on one of the JGGs that had a bottom cap.

I don't know. I reached out to Bruce to confirm what he has in his bag of sizes. Invoice says 17x1. But when I line it up with the 16x1, they look the same. So I busted out my calipers and the measure the same. Either he sent me wrong of my other company sent me wrong, and my calipers are wrong. I'll be placing an order for 17 and 18. I have new sizes to order. I'm sick of this topic.

ok, I just came back from machine shop and we found the problem. It was the fact that I had to be right on the delivery dates that I gave you, so I send half of collector tanks to another machine shop. As you saw, its work was not the proper one, thats why I always avoid to make a partnership with other machine shops. My machine shop is the best in Athens and I will stick with it from now on. No more mistakes.

The solution is that I will send CT to my sellers and everyone with a problem will ask them for a new CT.
This may be the situation regarding Ithikas that have leaking. May not have been machined the same. My instinct tells me that even if you give same set of specifications to two different machine shops they may or may not be exactly the same since their machines may be calibrated very minor but still different. :2c:

Yeah ~ sure ya could try to use a BIGGER O-Ring or Thread Sealing Tape to remedy this :| ~ just not sure why some Ithikas would need an o-ring other than the recommended size. Frankly not sure how you would even get a larger o-ring between the this middle section and upper body with this gap already in play.:?:

 Anymore info? Spill
I have my suspicions in regards to what is causing the leakage, however I am going to wait and see how things play out before I go into further detail.

Side note - All orings ordered. I will have next week. I can also fill a bounce house with them.

Ithaka troubleshooting.

Here is what the measurements are. This is showing me a difference in the opposite direction of .5mm. Hence my gap in bottom right photo. The bottom left photo shows one of the two notches where juice will bubble up.

Yes. This bottom I can see an oring sealing off. But my point here was that those notches distance varies from base to base. Some you can almost put a fingernail in to lift. Others not as much.

There always seems to be a reason why there are gaps.

I wondered about that myself. I would have though that gap would cause a leak. Fortunately, the only gap I have that leaks is the one in my memory... As my wife likes to point out!
